Government formed in Federal Svenmark - coallition shock!

Federal Svenmark

Good afternoon and welcome to the News Hour on SvenTV.

Firstly, we can announce the results in the first elections for the Federal parliament. The parties polled as follows:

Democratic party 11%
Federal Liberal party 23%
Socialist party 32%
Green party 17%
Federal Nationalist party 15%

Socialist party leader Torr Andresson had been expected to be named prime minister of the new parliament until two hours ago when a shock announcement was made at the headquarters of the Liberal Party.

"People and members of the press. I stand before you to announce a momentous decision made by both the Liberal party and the Green party regarding the general election. We have decided to pull our votes together and form a coallition. Our platform will be one of both environmental and social reform. I shall assume the position of prime minister and the head of the Green party, Karina Hendlesse, will take the position of deputy prime minister and she will address you now"

And Karina turned to the crowd,

"People of Svenmark, this is truly a momentus occasion in many senses. We have formed today a coallition of people and ideas that will lead our country through the next millenium. We can no longer look at politics as left and right, rich and poor. Instead we look to blur the distinctions further, to provide opportunity for all but all the while ensuring that what we leave for our children is the best we can possibly give. Our main goals in these four years will be as follows; to strengthen the Federal system and ensure the transition from national to federal governments proceeds smoothly, to turn around the economic decline faced by some regions, to invest further in our social welfare system to ensure nobody goes without and also to curtail the activities of major corporations in our land to ensure that our wonderful nation and its environment remain unspoiled. We hope you will support our endeavours and we will hold our position with pride. Thank you.'

Socialist leader Torr Andresson reacted to the announcement with shock.

"Shocked! Of course I'm shocked! We had this election sewn up and suddenly the bloody liberals and their wooly friends the greens are forming a government! But it's better them than the nationlists? .... opposition? Well, I suppose it depends just where there policy direction takes them. However, we definitely won't be sitting next to the Democrats or Nationalists.. no way. We just have to see how things pan out. Now if you'll excuse me..."

The Democratic party and the Federal Nationalists have yet to respond to today's news, though supporters of the Federal Nationalists have been holding a rally in Olafsson Square in Hergenssen, the new Federal capital. More on that later.

Although we dont think the voices of the people should be ignored like that, we are extremely happy that this kind of "Democracy" is not punished in you're country.
