-Tobruk, Mestionian Colony of Azerian-

When Lord Aran, eldest son of George I and heir to the throne of Mestionian was named commander of the military force sent to Hallad, he left rule of Azerian to his younger brother Ertu, a brash young Prince rather unsettled by the fact that he could never be more than a lord. During Aran's absence Ertu managed to threaten war on the Arabian Republic, and cause many problems for his father and king. When Hallad announced her return to a state run by a legislature, King George ordered all Mestionian forces to come home, including the Lord of Azerian, Aran.

However, when Aran returned home he found nearly half of his advisors either fired or imprisoned by his twenty-year old brother. Infuriated, Aran ordered his brother to Mestionian, so their father could deal with the unruly Prince. But Ertu would not comply. He chose rather to challenge his brother to a duel, the prize being Lordship over the land of Azerian. Regretfully, Lord Aran accepted the challenge of his younger brother, for to decline was to suffer dishonor.

The following day, the two men met in the courtyard outside Aran's great Hall. There they drew their swords, Aran weilding Azeriot, sword of the fallen King of Azerian, and Ertu weilding Halgar, a sword forged for the named Protector of Mestionian. The two men battled for no more than five minutes before Lord Aran's sword was broken by the alloy blade of his brother. Confident of victory, Prince Ertu lunged at his brother, only to find that the broken blade was still sharp when Lord Aran swept behind him and slit his brother's throat. Lord Aran fell to his knees and wept for what he had done. He had killed his only brother, and one of his father's children.

A royal burial for the fallen Prince will be held in two days time in Neistrul, the capital of the Kingdom of Mestionian. All noblemen will be in attendance and a day of national grieving has been named. Lord Aran will maintain his status as Lord of Azerian and heir to the Mestionian throne, as he killed in a duel of two gentlemen. This is truly a sad time for the Mestionian Kingdom.
