Hello, I'm Kathren Movan, of the Colerica Imperial News network. We come to you now under the gravest of situations; the Colerican state of Kally has seceded from the United Empire! An astonishing number of the state's citizens have made their feelings known over the last few weeks, by staging large secessionist rallys and processions. Defying the law with these illegal gatherings, the secessionists demanded that Kally's Viceroy, Dem Chema, talk amongst his co-leaders about a secession from the United Empire. Last night, it is reported, Viceroy Chema and his cohorts agreed on a secession from the United Empire. They announced their intentions just moments ago. People have been storming the streets of Kally cities shouting, "Liberty. Freedom. Enfranchisment," a phrase that seems to be their rallying cry.

We here at CIN know that this is an open act of treason. A once respectable man, Dem Chema, is now a criminal and a tratior to the United Empire of Colerica. Something must be done and done quickly to counter these criminal actions.

We now bring you a just-released brief statement by the Imperial Palace. It reads, quote, "The people of Kally have made a grievous mistake. A mistake for which they will be punished. There will be no secession from the United Empire."

The Emperor has, rumoredly, suspended habeus corpus throughout the entire state of Kally. He has relieved that tratior, Dem Chema, from his job as Viceroy along with all of Chema's staff. It is rumored that the Emperor will grant pardon to anyone who commits a crime against a Kally citizen. The state of Kally no longer has any functioning government. Emperor Thra has declared a complete state of martial law throughout all of Kally.

Reports are filtering out now that the Kally people had began stockpiling weapons for sometime. Hopefully, the United Empire will send in forces to disarm these radical tratiors.

There are also fears and concerns that the neighboring states of Loros, Tarka, Deviso, and Jaxuum may also secede. There has been a strong secessionist uproar throughout the neighboring states, and we can only guess as to what may happen now that Kally has declared their secession from the United Empire. My only hopes are that this won't erupt into a war and that these secesh tratiors will get punished for their crimes. We will, undoubtedly, continue to cover this story as it happens and we'll bring it to you, live.

OOC: What are the policies of this new nation and others that could secede?

Semi-OOC: Well, technically, they haven't formed their own nation yet, but they are working on it. Right now they've just made it clear that they have seceded and declared their independence from the United Empire. The secessionists are promoting freedom, liberty, and justice for all, things that they claim do not exist within the United Empire.

This action comes just hours removed from Kally's anouncement of secession. Deviso neighbors Kally to the north-east and has been a hotbed of secession in the United Empire. Prime Minister Sweeny had called in an intelligence briefing over the string of successions in Colerica.
"Deviso, Kally. Colerica. What do we have on these folks?"

"To be quite honest, sir, not much. Colerica is huge, more than 10 times larger than us, tight fisted and capitalist government, can probably rip us wide open. Military capabilities are unknown, most everything is unknown at the moment."

Sweeny grimaced. As a former intelligence operative himself, he had seen first-hand the disasters caused by a lack of information.

"Well, that's no good. I want an intel desk made for Colerica immediately, start collecting everything you can through channels. Task whatever satellites you need to cover the area, you have first priority for this. Send up our RC-135s, with light escort, to discretely listen in on things from international airspace."

He paused before continuing, contemplating the dangers of the next option.

"And activate Special Operations Squadron 1, have them load a clandestine operations team into the Miller, (( A Clan Smoke Jaguar-designed Chimerra-Class SSGN)) and have them sail for international waters off Colerica. Have them start working up best insertion routes for intelligence agents into Deviso and Kally. We'll deploy them if your intel people here can't get enough data in time."

Ministry of State Release

The Commonwealth of McQuaide calls for restraint on the part of all parties in the debates surrounding the Colerican provinces of Deviso and Kally. The Commonwealth would furthermore wish to offer the McQuaide capital of New Dublin for a possible site of peace negotiations, should these be desireable for the parties involved.

((OOC: Colerica, if you could post whatever intel that you think a smallish, 4,000 person intelligence service could drum up if they prioritized your nation as a high-priority interest. I just don't know enough about the politics of these two breakaway regions, or your politics, to figure out a stance. If you want, you can also TG me with how you see this thread playing out.))

OOC: Sure, I pull up stats on me.

I'm an empire, pure and simple. Colerica's government is fascist and oppressive, (when I say fascist, don't think Nazis. More like the Roman Empire. The State owns everyone, more to less.) The Emperor is the sole leader for life and his wish is law. (By the way, Colerica is an island. A big island. Once I get Photoshop back up and running on my new system, I make a map of it. The United Empire is made up of the main island of Colerica, and several outlying islands, the biggest of which is Rilos, (actually an NS nation that someone gave me). Among the others are Isla Mago and Isla Larga, as well as others.

The oppressive, fascist government of the UEC is omni-present. It sees all, hears all, and knows all. There are spies literally in every city, town, and villiage. There is little that occurs in the UEC without the government knowing it. Everyone is bar-coded to keep track of their movements at all times. An intense security network with checkpoints at every city, (no one enters or exits without the gov't knowing of it), deters terrorists, et all.

The Constitution of the UEC promises everyone limited rights. Everyone has the right to have freedom of speech, so long as nothing say is "subversive" of the gov't. Religion is banned, as it recognizes an authority higher than the Emperor, though there has been a push for a State-run religion that regards the Emperor as a god or god-like figure. There are no firearms, as that was one of the first things to be banned when the Empire was founded. (No chance for a rebellion, of course.)

Justice is an odd thing. There is trial by jury, but the punishments are far more severe. Executions happen daily, in fact, one of the most popular TV channels in the UEC is the Imperial Execution Network, which airs public executions 24/7. (Harrison Bergeron-esque). There are cameras in all public places as well as loud-speakers that continually blare pro-gov't, 'patriotic' messages, such as the national motto, "Believe. Obey. Fight."

What hooks most people is Katharasis, a State-run gambling ring that entertains millions of citizens and sucks millions of dollars into the Empire's bank accounts.

The leading industries are Uranium mining and automobile production. Though, there are agricultural areas down to the south and south-east of the island, conveniently located throughout the states that have seceded and the states that may secede.

For the most part, the people are happy. While there are no elections, the people do get to have some say, albeit incredibly limited, in the gov't. The media outlet, the Colerica Imperial News network, is completely State-run and continually broadcasts the UEC's propaganda, further brain-washing the citizens.

Here's a brief listing of some of the core leadership of the UEC:

Zachara is the capital city of the UEC. Other cities include Alatsar, Keystone Point, Raxus, among many others. Alatsar is the largest city, with a population of about 10 million.

As far as the rebelling states go, they're much different in their ideals than the UEC. They're both pushing for "freedom, liberty, and enfranchishment." They want a democratically-elected government where the people are free to do as they wish without the watchful eye of the State governing everything they do. While the two states have not yet joined to form a gov't, there are already talks that they will. The current front-runners in the secession are not yet none as far as who are their collective leaders, but the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colerica, a dissident separatist group that has been trying to oust the UEC's gov't, is being hailed as heroes by the secessionsts and the secesh sympathizers in Kally, Deviso, and the neighboring states.

Hello, I'm Kathren Movan and this is a Colerica Imperial News network breaking news alert. The Colerican states of Loros and Jaxuum have seceded! Siding with Deviso and Kally, the first two states to announce their secessions, Loros and Jaxuum have both decided to secede, as well. This now makes four rogue states with in the United Empire, all of which are hotbeds of secesh tratiors.

Kressi Thra, Magistrate of State, was reached for this commented, quote, "The United Empire of Colerica is splitting. This division is being caused by the tratiors at the helm of the criminal states of Kally, Loros, Jaxuum, and Deviso. The United Empire will not stand for this and these states will be brought back into the United Empire, by force if absolutely necessary."

Rav RuuKawa, a CIN correspondant, had this to say, "This is certainly a grim day in the history of the United Empire and the population of Colerica will go to sleep tonight, not knowing what tomorrow will hold for their nation's stability."

Our beloved Emperor, Maderic Thra, has ordered the withdraw of a large portion of the United Empire's soldiers from the current campaign in Isla De Plata. These soldiers are to come back to the United Empire immediately to keep the peace. We will continue to bring you this alarming chain of events as it unfolds.

Hello, I'm Kathren Movan of the Colerica Imperial News network. Today has been a grim day as four Colerican states have declared their secessions from the United Empire. The United Empire, in return, has suspended the writ of habeus corpus throughout the four states, has declared that it will grant pardon to any Colerican citizen that commits a crime, no matter what it is, against a citizen of any of the four secesh states, has declared martial law throughout all the areas in rebellion, has fired all of the governments of all of the secesh states, and has called for the immediate withdraw of a large portion of the UEC's forces in Isla De Plata to return home.

I will not lie to you people, I believe this is the worse situation to ever face the United Empire. I only hope that this will can be resolved peacefull and without the use of force on either side.

The four secessionist states have declared that they have joined together to form a new nation, calling themselves The Confederate States of New Colerica. A population of over 350 million people,* the CSNC now has the United Empire's largest city, Alatsar, within its borders. No statements have been released by the United Empire is response to the formation of this new nation from these four rogue states. And the worst part about this is the wide-spread belief that more states will secede within the next few days. Tarkaa has, so far, remained within the United Empire. While these are only four rebellious states out of thirty-one states in the United Empire, this is still the biggest threat to the UEC in our nation's history.

I leave you tonight with fears about the near future. I do not know what will happen as a result of all of this but I can only imagine the chaos this may lead to. It is the plea of a simple newscastor that the United Empire and the secesh states sit down at a negiotiating table and hammer-out their differences before this leads to bloodshed.

Hello, I'm Kathren Movan of the Colerica Imperial News network. The United Empire of Colerica has requested talks with representative figures from the illegitimately-formed and illegal non-nation of the Confederate States of New Colerica to disarm the radicals in the CSNC, in hopes of easing the tension. There has been isolated shoot-outs between secessionists and pro-UEC security-police forces scattered throughout Deviso, Kally, Jaxuum, and Loros since the secession.

Magistrate of State, Kressi Thra, had this to say, quote, "We ask that the leaders, if there are any, of this 'nation' [CSNC] sit down at the negotiating table with the United Empire and together we can look to disarm the radicals in the secessionist states and work to resolve our differences."

The Confederate States of New Colerica has said that they will think of attending such a meeting, but they wish for it to be either on neutral ground, (ie foreign soil), or away from the Colerican mainland and have hinted to Isla Larga as a potential meeting spot. The CSNC also claims that they have set up a provisional government among themselves. As disgusting as I believe it is, they have 'elected' Ruraq Kylaer as their President, or Principal Director as they like to call him. As you may recall, Ruraq Kylaer is the leader of the RAFC terrorist group that has been trying to upset the United Empire for sometime. Frankly, I'm not surprised these criminal secesh traitors picked him as their leader. Kylaer always has been a criminal, a secessionist, and a traitor.

More problems seem to lie within the United Empire as there are rumors that more states may secede and join this nation, if you could even call it that. Some UEC government officials have resigned and joined what they call the "Cause of Freedom." This Confederacy is a threat to our peace and I hope that all is resolved.

The United Empire of Colerica thanks Zoogiedom for their support. While we hope to resolve this without bloodshed, we are preparing ourselves for the worst. If a civil war were to break out in the United Empire, it would not only be devastating to our international standing, it would also weaken our resolve and force us to pull more forces from Isla De Plata. If we need help, you will be the first ally we turn to.

After reviewing this issue carefully, Shogun Tomzilla has decided to put at least 10,000 soldiers on red alert for deployment to Colerica if needed by the United Empire of Colerica to putdown the rebels. Tomzilla and Colerica were allies in the liberation of Isla De Plata and the Shogun feels the need to help our allies in trying times.

The Empire of ITD wishes to extend humanitarian aide for the post war clean up. While we cannot send military forces, as we are also experiencing rebel resistance groups on our outposts, we are able to spare 500 medical doctors and 700 other trained medical personnel, as well as a shipment of medical supplies, food and water.

Note: I've changed some things around from earlier posts in this thread. The secesh states are not located on the south east of the island, but rather the south west area. The city of Alatsar is NOT in secesh territory. Also, the nation of the Confederate States of New Colerica does indeed exist. I created it a while ago for the sole purpose of an RP like this. Even though it has over 500 million people, please treat it like it has only about seventy million. (That means ignore the population number I stated earlier in the thread.)
