~GNN Special Report~
We interrupt your scheduled broadcast for this breaking news.

"Hello everyone, I'm Diane Franks, from GNN news. We have just recieved information from the government concerning the territory of New Caledonia. For months, Granzi has queried the local government, having long had interests in the region. Lawmakers there have finally agreed and just placed a resolution into the hands of the people, asking for their opinion wheather or not the island should join the Commonwealth."

*Screen flashes to graphics of several documents*

"An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on condition of anonymity, stated, quote, 'This is the time for the citizens of New Caledonia to choose their future path. This decision is entirely up to them, and the government will not attempt to alter anything. We believe that New Caledonia has much to gain from joining the Commonwealth however. Annual aid, citizenship, and other opportunities are all very much a possibility.' "

*Screen flashes back to the front desk*

"Thank you, and we will bring you more as this story unfolds."

OOC: There was a major war over New Caledonia a bit back...not sure what's up with that tho. Other than that it's a bit odd that a territory of France would vote on its own to become part of another nation...especially when the 'benefits' offered are no greater (and a great deal less assured) than what is already being received.

OOC: Well, in my view, there really is no France that exists as a nation in NS. There are nations that have the boundries of RL France, but there is no governments, no real France. I'm just assuming that New Caledonia is a separate "entity." On the topic of benefits, that was just a small overview, nothing that has a lot of details has been releases yet. Government official are notoriously vague at press conferences.

I'd also like to know what the war was about, as I had already checked Chellis' Nation Claims. I need some kind of IC response before I can really go forward.

OOC: I'm not really clear on the point of the war...some kind of failed imperialist thrust (like yours) that had a counter-attack or something. Happened late last year around may so I think you're safe there. You know, tho, it would be no issue to destroy anything the french could place there. If there's no claimant nation then enjoy.
