I am a newbie, assistance required.

New Shinra

A.) How can I tell how much money I have?

B.) Can I enlist more than 2% of my military? I would like to be a purely militaristic nation.

C.) Do I need to purchase weapons for my armies? I saw some AK-47's I might buy. (Or do weapons appear out of nowhere?)

D.) Can I hire people to train my army? Should I assume that they're already fully trained? (Where's the fun in that?)

E.) I have recently moved to the USSR, and consider myself a communist nation. =)

F.) I would like to upload a custom flag I made, but the filesize limit is 6KB - I could set the quality to the very lowest to meet this quota, but it looks like crap - can I upload it to an external server? Any solution to this?

EDIT*** I just realized that I posted this in the COMPLETELY wrong forum. Sorry.

A.) Check out this site: http://www.pipian.com/stuffforchat/gdpcalc.php?nation=New%20Shinra

B.) I wouldn't suggest enlisting more than two percent as it takes away from realism. Depending on how much you enlist, your economy might implode (in real life that is). I only enlist 1% and my army is surprising powerful. Keep in mind you have to arm these people too. You don't want to have to pay to arm 50% of your population.

C.) Good segway into this. You can purchase weapons at any of the many storefronts around the world. Of you can trade for them. Or you could just say they were produced within your country. Just keep it realistic.

D.) You can do either here. If you need training, my army officials would be happy to help.

E.) The United Socialist States of Bergist are communist as well. Feel free to ask for help at any time. You might wish to look into Northern Neo Siberia, if you are serious about sticking around.

F.) Honestly can't help ya too much here. Just gotta play around with stuff I guess.

And yes, yes, this was in the wrong forum. No biggie.

OH MY GOD!!! A NEWB! (as opposed to n00b)! You are welcome, comrade! My God, we need more of your kind here. Most people start off with "OMG I NOOKZ j00!!" Anyway, sorry about that outburst of congratulation, heh.

All your questions seem to have been answered too, which is good. As a rough guideline for military strength, 5% should be your absolute maximum (including reserves), maybe 6% if you're an extremely militarised nation.

You can purchase weapons (it's good RP practice aside from anything else) or make them yourself. I use upgraded Soviet kit (better electronics and so on). Same goes for training.

Finally, we are also a Communist nation (though with some right-wing economic policies), so if you start getting grief just shout, you'll have plenty of allies. Also, check out the ASE (my region) and see what you think. :)

A.) http://www.thirdgeek.com/nseconomy.php?nation=New%20Shinra does the same thing, with extra statistics on your economy.

B.) 5% is the generally accepted maximum. Compulsary service only gets those able to fight, taking out the elderly, children, and late middle aged adults. Then, you have to take out people who have chronic illness, etc. So, 5%.

C.) You can, or you can produce your own. If you do decide to buy, check out my storefront when you are older- it's too expensive for you now if you want to have large numbers of troops. Right now, I would suggest the nation of Crookfur for your army and air force, and the nations of Doujin or The Freethinkers for your navy.

D.) You can do either.

F.) No. Try simplifying the design is the only thing I can tell you.

Most of all, congrats for not coming in here all egotistical and annoying. Good luck with Nationstates. It looks like you will be a good player very soon.

Not all Soviet Armies use the AK-47/74.

There are plenty of other Soviet Weapons to consider, including:

The Moisin-Nagant M91/30 Bolt Action Rifle
The SKS Semi-Auto
The PPSh38 SMG
The Nagant M1895 Revolver (holds 7 rounds and can be silenced!)

And congratulations on being sensible and intelligent with your early posts!

The Imperial Roycelandian Government has upgraded your status from "n00b" to "Newbie". As such, you are no longer subject to an Automatic Ignore when you post things, and we will also consider trading with your Nation, and offering you help and advice...

Aren't those all WWII-era weapons? Wouldn't it be much better to get something modern like the AK-103?
Roycelandia

True... but things like the PPSh38 and the Nagant M1895 are just as good today as they were in 1942...

Hmm, true, but less accurate and harder to use, surely? I'd be impressed if you could hit a man at 200m with a PPSh-41, for instance.

i would like to say my nation has a 10 per cent combat troops in my armed forces
DontPissUsOff
13-06-2004, 14:37
 So just how much of your population is actually in your military then? Even in the most efficient army I've ever heard of (the Wehrmacht) only about 30% of the personnel were actually front-line troops.
Sephrioth
13-06-2004, 14:42
fifty per cent of my pop
DontPissUsOff
13-06-2004, 14:43
So how do you have an economy then?
Sephrioth
13-06-2004, 14:49
the other 50 work
DontPissUsOff
13-06-2004, 14:52
You've got a 100% usage rate, even of the elderly/terminally ill/frail/people who generally can't work? :?
Sephrioth
13-06-2004, 14:57
yeah
Praetonia
13-06-2004, 15:31
That doesn't make sence. Your economy would collapse even if the other other 50% could work. They would all have to farmers just o feed themselves and all the soldiers, so no bullets, tanks guns etc and no money for you.

13-06-2004, 15:36

You know, you could learn something from New Shinra. There is no way any nation could exist with 50% of the population in the military. Sorry.

Well, it could do, it'd just be a banana republic.
La Extora

or you could just call it a disaster :)

ah leave me be, i just couldn't see it working, no matter how many bananas it has, ha ha :D
DontPissUsOff
13-06-2004, 16:10
lol...useless currency too. I suppose a bruised small banana is about a ha'penny, all the way up to a full hand of pristine large bananas which is a £50 note
