Austica

The Kingdom of Austica will today go to the polls to elect a Government. This election has been brought on early by the Prime Minister Sir John Grey, who wants to bring about an early election for the Kingdom.

The Contenders are:

Sir John Grey - Austican Conservative Party Sir John is the present Prime Minister and has been for many years. Sir John is extremely conservative, however, economically, he is pro-business and is committed to bringing international business onto our shores. The ACP has a sound economic policy, which focuses around low taxes whilst maintaining a surplus. Sir John promisises a tax cut of up to 5.5% for the lowest paid. Increase in Defence ($2.4 billion); $2.8Billion into the health system and $2.1billion into the education system. They also plan to make the health system a Federal power, meaning that the states within Austica will no longer argue over such an important issue.

Sir Alec Moore - Labour Party of Austica Sir Alec is an old fasioned Labor man. His policies involve a 4.2% tax cut to all workers. The abolition of the State Workers tax (introduced 10 years ago). Sir Alec also plans to decrease the Defence priority, by reducing the size of the Military by 10% and closing many bases. Sir Alec's party is quite hostile towards many of Austica's allies, bringing about concerns for the international future of Austica. Sir Alec is a protectionist who does not support free-trade or international agreements.

Greg Heyton - Greens Party Heyton advocates disarmament of the military and moving into an isolationist style of Government. He advocates terminating many international defence treaties and refusal of entrance to any nuclear powered ships into Austican ports. Heyton proposes a zero immigration policy with the exception of refugees to which he has a peculiar open door policy towards. Heyton wants to privatise almost everything from Prisons to the catering corp of the defence force. Heyton proposes no tax cuts for anyone, however intends to impose a services tax on business. The tax rate would be 15% of total earnings. Heyton also proposes a green tax on all industry to supposedly prevent pollution.

John Baker - Progressive Alliance Baker is a progressive Centrist who is also a republican. He accepts that the monarchy attracts large support, however insists changes are needed. Baker's policies are directed, almost entirely upon the monarchy. He intends to change the names of all Government departments so that the King or any references to the crown are no longer included. He also intends to reduced the King's powers even more, so that the KIng may no longer disallow laws under any consequences. He wants the royal arms removed from all government buildings, and a new coat of arms designed that does not include the crown. Economically, he advocates the introduction of a Goods and Services Tax (GST) at a level of 25%. This would replace sales tax. Baker would also retain the income tax and increase it by 2% for the lowest paid, whilst offering a 5% tax cut to the highest earners.

Sir Martin Martoon - Austican Nationalist Party This candidate proposes a mass re-armament of the military. They want to increase military spending by up to 23%. The party supports zero immigration (including refugees) and want a caost gaurd to prevent unauthorised arrivals. THere policy on removing such arrivals is vague and calls for 'evasive' action. They also support the unification of all Regional members (Rivendell) into one nation under a joint Royal Family made up of the Austican, Windsorettian and Cornflourish Crowns. No tax cuts can be found here, and business would benifit from a new apprenticehip scheme, which would see businesses willing to take on apprentices given $100,000 a year in assistance.
