Kieran I, Emperor of the Caledonian Empire has announced that he is considering retiring from his position as Emperor, and will, in the near future, annouce the heir to the Caledonian throne.
Since the Emperor has no children of his own, there has been some speculation to who the Emperor will name as his successor. The following four individuals seem the most likely candidates:
Princess Kendra
The Emperor's younger sister. She is significantly less hard-line fascist than the Emperor is, and has often mentioned how she regrets her brother's dissolving the Council of Advisors, which were officials elected by the people to advise the monarch on all matters. If she is named heir, it is expected that the people may once again have a say in the government.
Princess Sarah
The eldest daughter of Princess Kendra at 18, Sarah has just reached the age of adulthood under Caledonian law. Sarah is a charismatic and charming young woman, which has resulted in her being the most popular member of the royal family with the general population. She has said that it pains her to see the population treated so poorly, and denied basic human rights. The Caledonian Empire runs on the principle that those not in active military service do not deserve to have tax money spent on their well-being. If Sarah becomes the next Empress, this is likely to change. Unlike her mother, however, Princess Sarah seems to support the idea of absolute monarchy.
Princess Melissa
The second, and youngest daughter of Princess Kendra, the 16 year old Princess Melissa is considered a possible candidate despite her young age due to her firm support of her uncle, the Emperor's policy of rule. She also shows a good grasp of military matters, and is attending the Royal Caledonian Military Academy, an institute traditionally only attended by sons of nobles. If Melissa takes the throne, chances are, there will be no change in Caledonia's policies.
Conner Skene
A 2nd cousin to the Emperor, Conner, son of the Duke of Aberdeen is only thought a possibility because the Emperor can be rather traditional at times, and may want to name a male heir to his Empire. Conner has served with distinction in the elite infantry known as "Princess Kendra's Caledonian Light Infantry" and briefly served as its acting commander, when General MacDouglas was wounded in battle. Like Princess Melissa, Conner supports the Emperor's policies completly, and would not likely change them to any great extent, should he gain the throne.
While the Emperor insists that his decision will be his own, he has ordered a poll to be taken, that he might know the opinions of the rest of the world on this matter. It is the rest of the world, after all, that will have to deal with this change in rulership.
