Summit on Global Free Trade Area Announced

Crushinatoria
08-06-2004, 20:28
The government of the Grand Duchy of Crushinatoria (GDoC), an environmentally stunning nation famed for its well-established beef-based agriculture, lucrative casinos, and burgeoning trout-farming industry announces an international trade summit to explore the possiblity of creating a Global Free Trade Zone with other like-minded nations.

While the physical summit discussions will take place at a secluded beachfront resort in the environmentally stunning GDoC, the conference will be linked up electronically to the wider world via this thread. All nations interested in discussing the GFTA are encourage to attend the summit in person and/or submit their comments from this thread.

The GDoC's position on this issue is that the principle of free trade originally espoused by 18th century British economist Adam Smith in his seminal work "The Wealth of Nations" is the best way to bring economic prosperity to the citiznes of the GDoC and the wider world. However, this drive for free trade unfettered by onerous government tariffs and other trade barriers should be tempered by sensible oversight by an international body committed to upholding certain fundamental human rights such as the right to organize a union, the right to a safe workplace, and the prohibition of child labor, among others.

Summit organizers are currently accepting all statements of position (SoP's) from nations interested in joining the GFTA. In the interest of time, all SoP's should be submitted via this thread by 23:59 GMT on Friday, June 8. SoP's will then be coallated and reviewed and a draft mission statement will be circulated for comment.

Any government with questions about the proposed GFTA should post them here or TG the GDoC Foreign Affairs Ministry directly. Our delegation looks forward to hosting all nations wishing to explore this issue further.

Respectfully,

Stephen Albini
Chief Negotiatior
Foreign Affairs Ministry
