New Friendships Forged in Hamptonshire

Hamptonshire

The entire capital city was in a festive mood, not for decades could anyone remember Hamptonshire City being so jovial and festive. The Prime Minister, the Royal Cabinet, the Privy Council, both Houses of the Royal Congress, and most of the Royal Armed Forces General Staff stood in the Central Atrium of the Royal Congressional Complex. This place that was the scene of a massive terrorist attack that killed hundreds now would see the beginning of a new alliance and a new beginning.

The Grand Duke stood with his new found ally and friend, Most Supreme Dictator Daniel of the Great Autocracy of Majesto.

"Well, the time is here. We will go out there and announce this to both our peoples and to the world. After we are done, we will ride in the Carriages to the Ducal Obelisk. There we will sign the Treaty."

The Grand Duke and the Most Supreme Dictator then side by side began walking through the Great Hall of Democracy, the hall that leads to the Great Doors of the Central Atrium. The Grand Duke was dressed in his finest Royal Uniform, it was a deep navy blue with a brilliantly white dress shirt. He wore all of his medals on his breast and took care to keep his fur-lined blue velvet cape behind him. Upon his greying red haired head he wore the simple Silver Crown worn by all Grand Dukes for the past 1,500 years.

The Grand Duke and his new ally paused at the closed Great Doors. Taking a deep breath, he ordered the huge doors openned.

Like a lightning storm, hundreds of bright flashes immediately flooded the Central Atrium. The entire Press Corps wanted a piece of the action. The Grand Duke's most trusted advisor and closest friend, Foreign Minister Lord Easton, walked up to the two men and showed them to the large joint podium. After settling behind the podium, both leaders waited until the Press got their fill of pictures. Then the Grand Duke began to speak...

"Ladies and Gentlemen, Senators and Congressmen, Foreign Diplomats, guests, Most Supreme Dictator Daniel, and My Fellow
Hamptonians, today is a day for all time. The Treaty Our two Great Nations have debated over, discussed, and voted on for over a decade is now come to fruition. The Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire has learned that in a hostile and cold world, there is a nation, there are a people who share our ideals. When others have backed away, when others have faltered, the Great Autocracy of Majesto has always been there for Us. Majesto is our closest Ally and our dearest friend. While we have our differences and we do argue from time to time, what great Alliance in the annuls of History hasn't also been blessed with differences of opinion?

We, the Most Supreme Dictator and I, come to you from the Central Atrium of the Royal Congressional Complex. It was here many years ago that our Nation was savagely attacked by terrorists. They very ground I now stand on was under tons of rubble. Our Nation rebuilt and instead of falling inward, we reached outward and we never looked back. It is fitting that on the spot where Hamptonshire changed from an inward looking nation to an internationalist nation, We now gather to celebrate the creation of a bi-laterial Alliance that will form the cornerstone of Hamptonian Foreign Policy for decades to come.

There is much work before us, but with struggle comes greatness. It is our turn to be great. Thank you."

After a round of thunderous applause, Most Supreme Dictator Daniel took the microphone, ""Thank you for your kind words of welcome Grand Duke. On behalf of the people of the Great Autocracy of Majesto, I want to publically thank you for allowing me a hand in your nation. I am honored and privelaged to be a part of Hamptonshire, and I hope that you are as happy as I am when you become one with Majesto. Working together in this way can only provide benefits for both our nations."

The two leaders shook hands and posed for the flashing cameras. They were then lead through the Atrium to a waiting horse drawn carriage. The carriage would take them from the Royal Congressional Complex to the Ducal Obelisk in the center of Hamptonshire City. The men were taken through the city in a open carriage, hundreds of thousands of Hamptonians lined the streets and waved Hamptonian and Majestoan flags. The Grand Duke and the Most Supreme Dictator waved to the thousands of people until the carriage passed through the Great Silver Gate of the Ducal Palace Complex and under its massive Marble Walls.

Twenty thousand citizens, lawmakers, foreign diplomats, military officers, and guests crowded in the huge gardens facing the Ducal Obelisk. This 700 foot tall, obsidian covered monument to those that have lost their lives in service to the Grand Duchy served as the place where the Treaty of Alliance would finally and official be signed. The two leaders got out of the carriage to thunderous cheers from the assembled crowd. Once again, the walked in unison. They both parted company and sat on pposite ends of the 20 foot long table. Grand Duke Reginald Leopold I then stood back up and began to read the Treat of Alliance:

Recognizing that the nations of Hamptonshire and Majesto have formed a close relationship;

Recognizing the bonds that exist between these two great nations;

Recognizing that through alliance both nations will become stronger;

The People of the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire and the Government of the Great Autocratcy of Majesto do hereby affirm a Treaty of Alliance and Friendship.

Hamptonshire and Majesto do agree to:

-Mutual Defense
-Free Trade
-Joint Security Operations
-COntinuing of Joint Projects
-Perpetual Non-Aggression

An attack upon either nation will be considered an attack upon both nations. The Royal Armed Forces of Hamptonshire and the Armed Forces of Majesto will participate in Officer Exchange programs and will send military liasons to each other's country.

The Great Autocratic Island of Majesto will also be allowed to send one flight per week into the Hamptonshire City Capital District. The flight may be used for commercial or passanger transport.

In addition, the Oltremare Province of the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire will be an "Open Boarder Zone" between Hamptonshire and Majesto. The Great Autocracy of Majesto is allowed to establish "several" military bases in that Province and Majestoian citizens can move freely in and out of the Province, work there, and can move there without visas or special permission. Oltremare Province and its residents would be under the authority and jurisdiction of the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire. The Great Autocracy of Majesto will appoint a "Co-Minister of State for Oltremare Affairs" to the Provincial Government of Oltremare to ensure the fair treatment of Majestoians in that Province.

Hamptonshire and Majesto will, when possible, work on the international stage together for the benefit of both nations.

The Grand Duke paused after reading the Treaty of Alliance and Friendship to drink some water. He then continued: "We shall now affix our signatures to this Great Document forever sealing the bond between our two nations."

The Most Supreme Dictator then rose and said loudly into his microphone, "Our two nations both have our own strong points and our own weaknesses. By uniting together, we are an unstoppable duo. No nation or organization can stand in our way. What more can I say? The Grand Duke recited a treaty moments ago, a treaty that I fully stand behing one hundred ten percent. My nation will fully stand behing the Grand Duke in any of his further endeavours and we wish only the best upon our ally, Hamptonshire. I leave you with one comment, friendship and unity is the best defense against war and chaos. Thank you, and long live the alliance!"

Then two leaders then sat back down in their seats and signed the Treaty. After they both finished the looked across the table to each other and gave each other a nod. They then simultaniously rose from their seats and met at the center of the table. Each presented their signed copy of the Treaty to the other. Each man took it, and then began to shake hands. Seeing this the crowd began to cheer. The Grand Duke and his new ally then warmly embraced each other, and together rose their hands in triumph. They were no longer alone.
