AP - The world welcomes today the new kingdom of Mauiwowee. This small island nation, after centuries of anarchy and civil war, announced today the final consolodation of power in the traditional, historical seat of power, the Royal Narcosis lineage represented by his Royal Highness, King 'Lude II. The Kingdom is a pragmatic libertarian state recognizing the rights of the people, but simultaneously recognizing the need for limited, centralized governmental control.

To that end, the government is formed around a parlimentary system with a "House of Peoples" consisting of 301 members freely elected from the population at large for 5 year term and a "House of Royalty" consisting of 49 members appointed by the King and 51 members appointed by a simple majority vote of the "House of Peoples." The King has the right to break any tie votes in the "House of Royalty." Members of the House of Royalty serve for a 10 year term. Supreme judicial power rests with the King, though the lower courts consists of trial judges freely elected and appellate judges appointed by the House of Royalty and subject to certification by the House of Peoples. The King reviews cases only upon a determination that a case is of significant legal importance affecting the freedom of the people.

The Country prides itself on its mandatory military service of 2 years for all persons beginning on their 18th birthday and/or their graduation from high school, whichever comes last. The idea being that all citizens must learn about the responsibilities that go along with the freedoms they are given. Furthermore, each household in required to posses a firearm and firearm training is mandatory in all high schools. The govement feels the best way to defend against crime and foreign powers is to ensure to all criminals or invaders that their potential victims are armed.

While capitalism is supported and encouraged, the pragmatic nature of the government recognizes a need to provide financial support to its functionaries and military. To that end the Government has nationalized the pharmacutical and bio-engineering industries with the goal of creating a self-maintained and financed government and ensuring that the citizenry need never be taxed.

The country produces approximately 150,000 metric tons of hemp per year and could easily produce another 200,000. Additionally, over 1 million cubic yards of refined leather is produced from its cattle industry with expontial growth available. King 'Lude welcomes trade overtures and desires to grow his country's pharmacutical and bio-engineering industry into a world leader.

Application to membership in the U.N. is pending. The national currency "the Bud" has a value of approximately 0.25 buds per 1 U.S. dollar. The currency is based on a complicated formula taking into account the country's stockpile of high demand pharmacuticals, high value (and high potency hemp), beef & related leather and other natural resources (aluminum ore, silver and a significant, though small by world standards, cache of diamonds).
