Ballistic Missile Defense

Japanese Antarctica

We have been working on a ballistic missile defense system. The purpose of this system is to stop small scale ballistic attacks. Once a nuclear launch is detected, a kill vehicle is launched to fire at the reentry vehicles launched from the ICBM. The kill vehicle uses infrared sensors to detect the reentry vehicles. After finding the reentry vehicle, it destroys it completely.

We will be testing it soon.

The system has been successfully tested using a dummy Trident II. The EKV destroyed the warhead.

(OOC: I suspect I'm preaching to the choir here, but you're too young to possess ABM technology. Unless it was sold to you by a larger nation, it is extremely unlikely that you could develop such a device without significant outside help. Excellent design, however.)

IC:

The Republic of Ancient Terra congratulates Japanese Antartica for their successful test of an ABM system. As Terra full-well knows, security from nuclear attacks is an important issue in these days. We hope that you will never have to use this system to avert a real crisis, but in the event that you do, we equally hope that it works!

Good luck,

Are you at all interested in selling production rights? I would gladly pay $25 billion or so. If you just want to sell your product, then it might help if you put up stats so people know the capabilities of your new ABM system. Please consider my offer, and may the fuzzy bunny be with you.

AHT, I think every nation should be allowed to construct an ABM (after all, it's far better than nukes, but perhaps to satisfy everyone they should be far less efficient against a saturation attack, and perhaps have a 70% success even when not saturated? That way, they have fair protection, it isn't perfect (as it wouldn't be) and no nukes are involved, which has got to be good.

(OOC: Perhaps, Jordaxia, but if you consider that even the United States hasn't developed a totally succesful ABM system, it seems unlikely that young countries could develop such a system without having extensive knowledge of the systems involved. Lowering the effectiveness is certainly a step in the right direction; real-life systems probably aren't even 70% effective. Still, as long as nations don't do stupid things, they generally aren't nuked in their young stages.)

good idea, but wut if the missiles dont use infared heat. Who nos, they can add heat cloaking devices. I sugggest use heat and cool sensors to fine the missile the blast it outa the sky.

Ummm...

I'm fairly certain that an ICBM would generate a tremendous amount of heat. Afterall, it is boosted into orbit by a rocket engine. Rockets are known neither for the subletly nor their inaudibility.
