Discrete message left to governments and companies who provide computers.

ooc: Meaning that if you don't respond, because you don't produce the components or simply have nothing relevant to say, you didn't recieve the message so you cannot act in character on the knowledge. :D
IC:

My organization is interested in purchasing a super computer that can process in excess of three thousand teraflops. Please submit how this system would be broken down, size, cost and any other relevant stats.

OOC: IC I wouldn't but the problem is as a rule of thumb I don't RP with more advanced nations. Otherwise why would I not be giving my left nut to have some of that advanced tech.

We are very interested as we have had some dealings with your computer systems before. Tarqys has created a 747 SP using some of your technology. Anything you could do for us would be great. We understand that the most feasable way to get to the high processing power we asked for would be a server farm, we are curious how you plan to fill our need.

We understand that the most feasible way to get to the high processing power we asked for would be a server farm, we are curious how you plan to fill our need.

It is all dependent on what level of technological advancement you are comfortable with utilizing. Noting our relationship with Tarqys, it appears that your nation is sufficiently advanced enough to handle the power of raw quantum computing. If you feel this technology is just right for your nation to use on a national level, we would be more than willing to design a server collective based on our highly popular QUANVER model.

The Design of the Supercomputer complex would follow what is known as a "Beowulf" cluster; these "clusters" would be conglomerations of 8 individual supercomputers connected together by high speed communication lines and then ultimately controlled by a small, but highly efficient, server computer which would act as the central control unit. When multiple clusters are linked together and coupled with an equally powerful communication system, each individual supercomputer would only be responsible for solving a small portion of a highly complex problem.

To help you fit the goal of a supercomputer that exceeds the goal of 3,000 Teraflops (3 Petaflops), Schultaria Prime would suggest the following configuration.

-132 Total Clusters (1056 Individual QUANVER Supercomputers)
-132 SPATEX Mark I Computers (To serve as data distribution platforms)

Total Average Processing Power: 3.0096 Petaflops
Collective Random Access Memory: 528 Terabytes
Collective Read Only Memory: 3.60938 Petabytes (3,696 Terabytes)

-Building (Floor Plan) Suggestion-

Total Space (Area of Supercomputers * 2 and rounded up to the nearest 100): 8500 square meters (Approximately 76,500 square feet)

-Construction Estimates-

Supercomputing Center: Approximately 7 years to design, construct, and furnish with the necessary wiring and environmental controls.

QUANVER Construction: Approximately 10 years to develop, produce, and distribute 1,056 of said computers to your nation.

-Total Cost (Minus Supercomputing Center Development)

[1,056 * $5,000,000] + [132 * $42,000] = $5,285,544,000

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Except for the time of completion this bid is fine. I would appreciate a more expedient build. With this in mind we are willing to increase the amount money we are paying. We would like to have the computers completed in at least 4 NS years, to accomplish this you need but name your price.

There were several factors decided in the length of the build time, but we will try to increase our manufacturing capabilities in order to accommodate.

Following the destruction of the Eldaimovey Advanced Research Labs, Designwerks lost nearly 70% of its manufacturing base in the fields of computer and space science. While manufacturing capacity has almost recovered, the facilities to design and produce the quantum "Box" processors necessary for the QUANVER have been slow to take shape. We can increase our production capacity, though most projections are still rather low at about 380 processors per year. With this increase we should be able to complete the construction of the supercomputers in the span of five and a half years.

The costs of this production increase will cost an additional 50% in terms of power costs, back salaries and overtime for the manufacturers, and the construction of several very delicate clean rooms to prepare the processors for integration.

Although the Muktar Corporation makes no formal response, a certain infamous hacker in Muktar intercepted the message.

"Well, well, well. What have we here? Big fancy computer, eh?" Breeder, as he called himself by his hacker handle, was famed for his insanely intelligent computer viruses. Nobody who has ever been hit has ever been able to capture a copy of even one of them, and they often struck his targets without warning. He looked at his computer he was currently on, which he called the Breeding Pit. Only three viruses were left at this point, all trying to get all the dataspace in the computer from the other two. "I think my newest creation will have a target once it has completed itself."
The three viruses each did different things to achieve the same end: take up all the space it could. The first, which he planned to call Rabbit if it one, hardly did any damage, but reproduced before practically anything could take up the space of destroyed copies. The second, a hopeful Troll, was the opposite toward this effect: it destroyed anything that got too close, but reproduced slowly. It seemed as though Elf was going to be the contender. It was already smart enough to avoid Troll and stick Rabbit in the middle. It dealt potent damage to Rabbit to expand, then withdrew when Troll came lurking. At least that was what the statistics of which virus had what 'territory' were showing. Rabbit was doomed; trapped in the middle. It would either be Elf or Troll, based on what mutations occur before Rabbit fails.

OOC: If my hunch is correct, I don't think that this supercomputer will even be remotely linked to the outside world. Most pure research supercomputers hold data so secretive that security procedures for data handling are just as high as some experimental government security clearances. Your hacker would have to come into physical contact with the machine.

OOC: Just remember that this computer isn't your avarage console; many supercomputers in the world are not physically connected to outside communication lines. There could be the possibility that a virus could be linked in a swappable drive which would be connected to the supercomputer for data transfer purposes, but you would first have to hack a remote console connected with the rest of the world and then hope that the data on the removable drive is set to be introduced into the computer system.

Breeder grinned from ear to ear. After a mutation that reproduced more quickly, Troll managed to overpower Rabbit and plowed through Elf, who's lack of need to defend itself rendered it frail. After looking over the virus's asthetics image, he decided to call it Vampire instead. His asthetics program made it fun: instead of just viruses in a computer, it was digital species in a silicon biosphere. He copied Vampire out of the pit and gave it a home in a computer with all it needed to expand its empire. He then went to moniter his other viruses. The Credonia Virus was shaping up as a force to be reckoned with; near invincible with a formidible punch as well. The HLF Virus was nowhere to be found in the assigned computer, but the asthetics program showed a bustling empire of cloak and dagger. The Automagfreek Virus continued to compress its files to save space in its confines, as it reproduced like Rabbit but had a more agressive punch to it. He continued to look over six other viruses, all performing normally, then approached his personal favorite; the Zealot Virus. This virus had shaped into a level of awareness in which he could communicate with it. They had built a religious order around Breeder's dominance in cyberspace. He put on his headphones and tapped into the communication mainframe with a program called 'Communion.'
"I've created another race for our cause."
"Most wonderful. Praise be to thine benevolence, oh mighty lord."
"I seek to test them against a fierce foe."
"What foe is this who would oppose a god?"
"An empire that cannot be reached through the passages of the Great Web."
"Such is a blasphemy, hiding from thine great glory."
"And a worthy test for my newest creation. It has learned great power in brute force, yet is blind to subtlity and patience."
"We shall teach it."
"Do so."
Teaching, in this case, meant sending a patch into the Vampire Virus's new home. It would accelerate their learning capability to the level needed to hide in certain files as was needed to survive in cyberspace. The HLF Virus was already familiar with this, and thus its insane stealth ability. Breeder logged off Communion and sighed. "Now it is time to make an empire..."

Not a problem and you are correct. This computer will be a standalone which will only be connected via remote. Info onto drive, drive into other machine for security check, then into the super computer. Later after I do what I want I might RP with you about getting infected Muktar but I have a specific purpose in mind. Okay?

The specifics however are on a seperate nation spanning intranet in my nation controlled by the NNOA. Cracking that network would be exceedingly difficult but possible, it would also put you on the top of the NNOA most wanted list because they may not be able to find you but every attack you perpatrate against a Noviet computer develops your profile within the NNOA.

If you are interested give me someway to talk to you real time. (I don't really feel like detailing all my security measures here.) I run trillion with AIM, MSN, and Yahoo so if you have one of those let me know and I'll add you and we can start talking.

The Eôsphoros had watched every part of the super computer come in. The Schultarian workers were starting to get nervous with him watching all the time. His eyes never seen, his skin pale and eerie in the florescent lighting, he generally didn’t look like he ever left this subterranean location. They were also weirded out by the location. Taken here by a black town car of Noviet design they could never see out of the windows and when they were taken down by elevator there were no buttons or marking of floors. All they knew is the elevator trip took more than two minutes to reach its destination.

The Eôsphoros watched the Schultarians work. He knew they were anxious about him. Not because they fumbled occasionally, because they did, or because he was a student of human nature, as he was, it was a concrete fact. The glasses he was always wearing around them relayed a thermal image projected directly onto his retina. He could see their increased reparation, heart beats and must importantly the increased blood flow to their faces. The Eôsphoros cracked a slanted smile, it was funny how he could intimidate people so much. A stoic mannerism of two coupled with a couple of hours at the gym everyday but Saturday really gave him a formidable appearance. The super computer was running through start up tests and power checks before being brought online.

The Eôsphoros thought about what this computer would allow him to do. So much computing power, so much cryptographic work to put into it, satellite telemetries, the works. This computer was going to be a big boon to the organization.

"There he goes again, have you seen anyone that stone faced before?" replied one of the senior technicians to Daryl Cooper, "it's not that he's inhuman, but he has been getting on the nerves of some of the younger members. Perhaps a vacation might be in order..."

Daryl looked at her and spoke softly, "I understand completely; this whole place says 'leave or else'. However, it's not our place to judge. The company brought us here to help a client and that's what we're going to do," he then whispered in Schultarian, "Keep your eyes open and your mouth shut, remember to document everything you see too. We may just be here to install, but we could gain some valuable insight as to this architecture, and to this computer's purpose."

Satisfied with the progress, he proceeded to have his lunch break. Even though most of his workers were used to working in these kinds of conditions, they thought it odd that no Noviet workers were helping construct this behemoth. Shaking off the thought, he pulled out a small sandwich and a thermos of water and sat down on a small wooden box which once contained one of the hundred odd SPATEX computers designed to control the whole thing.

"Now what in the hell would anyone want to do with three Petaflops? That sort of power could easily replicate the human brain; is that what their trying to achieve?"

"What the hell am I thinking; I should be enjoying my lunch! Mmmmmm... turkey..."

The Eôsphoros had heard the Schultarian’s comments, not personally, but he heard everyone’s comments should he desire. With wiretaps on everyone’s security cards, not to mention the security cameras and the lip readers assigned to the screens they were attached to nothing on this level went unnoticed without the Eôsphoros’s knowing, that’s the way he liked it. He would let it go, its not like they were being seditious, more curious and naïve if anything. He was amused that they didn’t think he knew Schultarian. As soon as Nova Hope entered TAPRES he ordered the NNAO linguists to begin teaching it to him, he enjoyed the language and it gave him certain advantages. Turning to his computer the Eôsphoros began to draft a letter to Designwerks’s CEO.

I’d like to compliment you on the professionalism your workers exhibit. They do their jobs efficiently and respect the high security nature of this system. I have certain criteria that this system needs to meet and I am confident that your machines will deliver. Now, on that note I’d like to inquire whether or not your production facilities are up to par yet. There is still testing to be done but if this computer performs as I believe it will then we will require more setups similar to this one. I must state again that this is a conditional scenario but should it become favorable to you we would be in the market for an additional one hundred identical setups, all placed within this building. We would require that the same teams be the ones installing the new ones and that we get to do security clearance checks and force confidentiality waivers on all workers. We would get to approve all additional workers and their immediate families. We would also have the option of removing any worker from the project for any reason, no questions asked.

We would however require that the contract be classified. We would expect a great deal of secrecy from you in this matter and even if the conditions do not warrant the purchase of more computers we expect that this inquiry be kept secret. I understand that you can’t be expected to expand your production capabilities for a contract that may not come so I have acquired an income source for you. The military wants to create several mobile Command and Control Centres which would allow them to have full access to the computing abilities of the homeland, even while cut off. Should you agree to increase your production capabilities I will clear you as a defence contractor by giving your company the proper security clearance. I will then tell you the account number of the contract and you will win it. The military contract is currently a two hundred and fifty million credit contract ($500 million) for one hundred vehicle payloads. The payload being a control room with a powerful processor (I believe your CHEMIR would do nicely), satellite uplink, microwave communications, RADAR compatibilities, EMP invulnerability, and posses an ability to operate under severe stress i.e. bumps, lack of oxygen, heat, etc.

Should these two contracts interest you please reply, otherwise I will find other arrangements.

- Eôsphoros of the NNAO - Theodore Wilsey

The Eôsphoros sent the communiqué of, thought contemplatively for a moment and then decided to stand over one of the younger Schultarians.
