We'll PAY YOU to have and test our NEW bombers!!

National Commonwealth

Press Release: June 6, 2004
Aeronoxia Corporation Promotions Office

(Plerusque, New Paxum, RNC) Aeronoxia Corp. has launched a new technologcally advanced bomber in the Republic of National Commonwealth. The advanced aircraft will usher in a new era of flight dynamics and capability at sub-sonic speeds.

Since sales are currently below par, we are opening a LIMITED TIME OFFER. Aeronoxia Corp.will deliver any number of Geo-X bombers to any nation who would like them, free of charge. The company can afford to pay you 300 million dollars granted you submit a report on how the aircraft performed and whether you approve of it. We trust you will come back to purchase a few of these bombers in the future if you are satisfied with our product. Offer Ends 6/8/04

The aircraft incorporates the Blended-Wing-Body (BWB) design approach to maximize overall efficiency by integrating the engines, wings, and the body into a single lifting surface. The BWB synergistically combines a rigid, wide airfoil-shaped fuselage with high-aspect-ratio wings and buried engines with a common integrated nacelle. The BWB concept houses a wide double-deck payload compartment that blends into the wing. Preliminary analyses indicate that the BWB would outperform all current conventional aircraft. An initial evaluation of this configuration indicates significant cost and performance benefits over conventional configurations: a 56-percent increase in lift-drag ratio, a 20-percent decrease in fuel burn, and a 10-percent decrease in the operating-empty weight. The bomber, with a 280-foot wingspan, could carry 231,000 pounds of payload more than 12,000 nautical miles at a cruise speed of approximately 560 mph. It would reduce fuel burn and harmful emissions by almost a third. Other potential benefits of the BWB include increased aerodynamic performance, lower operating cost and reduced noise levels.

Sarzonia would be interested in testing the bombers. We have several miles of abandoned airfields and are interested in strengthening our military after our civil war.

We currently have an abandoned airfield 45 miles to the north of Townshend in our southernmost state of Bausch where we can conduct tests.

[OOC: It would also serve as a "friendly reminder" to Bausch after they attempted to secede from Sarzonia.]

The Commonwealth of McQuaide, a growing state desiring to begin bringing itself into the global sphere, desires the opportunity to aquire the Aeronoxia Geo-X heavy bomber prototypes. We are prepared to train crews for, maintenance, operate, and evaluate up to 24 aircraft. Cowden Air Force Base outside of our capital of New Dublin has sufficient runway, hanger, and command, control, and communications facilities, and the nearby Gorbachov Range is our premier joint-forces live-fire test range.

We promise that within [one RT day] a full report of our test results will be provided. Furthermore, up to 40 Aeronoxia / National Commonwealth observers will be allowed restricted access to Cowden AFB, the city of New Dublin, and the Gorbachov Range.

In return, the Commonwealth requests the sale of 24 Aeronoxia Geo-X bombers at a cost of no more than $40,000,000 per unit, and the provision of 24 technician instructors for a period of [2 NS years] to advise the McQuaide Self Defense Force Air Command as to the maintenance and operation of these aircraft.

{OOC: The following transmission is private, and is not seen by any nation. It is posted to provide record that it took place.}

FROM THE DESK OF Elder Eleutherian Jefwi Babay
TO Eleutherian Department Heads

It has been made public that The Republic of National Commonwealth is providing bombers free of charge to nations for testing and publicity. As a peaceful nation that believes war is immoral and unecessary, Eleutherian would never particpate in such an offer - in spite of its lack of cost (and in fact, income potential - as nations will receive 300 mln for testing).

However, this offer presents a unique opportunity to declare Eleutherian's voice to the world. Eleutherian will accept The Republic of National Commonwealth's offer, and order one dozen war bombers. We will make public our intentions to unveil the bombers at a public demonstration.

At said demonstration, we are to destroy all twelve bombers for all of Eleutherian to see... and perhaps all of the world to see... as a statement of our opposition to violence, war, and the machines that breed both.

Make the necessary arrangements, and report to the "Demonstration" with these intentions.

Elder Eleutherian,

[OOC: Take a look at the topic title for a moment. Is it just me, or should a nation selling weapons of war NOT sound like a snippet from a TV commercial? You know the type... "It slices! It dices!"]

Khrrck is interested in acquiring four Geo-X bombers. Delivery will be accepted at Khrrck City airport.

An escort will be permitted, but you must attach a radio beacon to all escort aircraft (if any) and the Geo-X bombers. Set it for thirty pulses per minute, and transmit the code "Twelve-twelve-point-nine-seven-sixty."

We will test the Geo-X bombers in ways which match the roles we would usually use them in and the weapons we would usually equip them with. Expect a preliminary report 6-8 weeks after delivery is accepted.

We would like five. Unfortunately, we just do not have room for more than that. If we decide that they are desirable and keep them, we will probably modify them significantly. They will have to be landed at two cities, Gothenburg and Istengrad, as no airfield we have is large enough to take all of them. Gothenburg is located near the southern tip of our nation, and Istengrad is near the middle, on the western edge of the plains of sorrow. We will send an escort to guide them in as weather is harsh and very unpredictable in our nation. Our thanks for the offer.

I believe your denial to provide aircraft is faulty RPing. What plausible reason do you have to deny Eleutherian's request?

MINISTRY OF DEFENSE WIRE

The Ministry of defense has concluded initial testing on the bomber, and are proud to share a summary report of our findings. Full technical findings will be forwarded via your returning technical staff.

TEST 1: Basic Flight Performance

As compared to our primary heavy bomber design, the Tupolev-22 swing-wing supersonic bomber, the Geo-X, now designated B-3A for our testing purposes, had average performance. The B-3A failed to reach the mach-2 point reached by the Tu-22, which was expected. Manueuverability was greater than expected, with the fly-by-wire system allowing for a great deal of flexibility.

TEST 2: Defensive Flight Characteristics

We found the best employment of the B-3A was in nap-of-the-earth low level flight, with a last-minute 'baloon' to 3,000 feet for weapons release over the target. Such a maneuver allowed for optimal weapons accuracy without endangering the aircraft. Flare and chaff deployment immediately after weapons release was advised, as the aircraft is temporarily vulnerable with its bay doors open and rear engines exposed.

TEST 3: Maritime Patrol

The fuel efficiency and large payload led us to modify the aircraft to a maritime patrol aircraft designated B-3B. By dedicating 1/3 of the payload to fuel stores and equipping the aircraft with additional passive and active sensors, sonobouy deployment system, and systems operator stations, we were able to establish a strong design for this category. The aircraft is still able to deploy the TASSM cruise missile, Harpoon-D anti-ship cruise missile, and even three internally stored AS-4 Kitchen anti-ship ramjet powered cruise missiles.

Greetings from the Dominion of Coruna,

The Corunian Air Force would like to test five of your bombers. Although we have no practice airfields or advanced flight diagnostic capabilities as of yet, we plan to test the bombers in the manner best suited for doing so. We may soon be at war and intend to use these bombers to perform strategic bombing runs. The Dept. of Defense feels that by doing so, you get the best possible intel. on bomber performance. Should any bombers be lost, the D.o.C would be willing to compensate.

Once the bombers have completed their mission, we will give your every detail of their performance.

AeroNoxia Technical Department

We realize you have concerns about the aircraft's capability to withstand and evade attack. While we recognize that the engines' exposure represents a vulnerability, they emit almost no heat or exhaust. The efficient propulsion system eliminates most heat. Our research staff is currently developing a heat shield to further combat this vulnerability. Such a shield would be installed on the rear of the bomber and would deploy discretely, as needed. Unfortunately, as it stands, the engines remain the least stealthy aspect of the bomber, however, the bomber as a whole has an extremely low radar signature. Thank you.

Communicade from Sarzonia's Vice President for Defense Terrence A. Wilson:

The Defense Department has concluded its initial tests over the abandoned fields on the outskirts of Townshend. Full technical reports will be submitted in the reports provided by your returning technical staff.

PHASE 1: Basic Flight Performance

The test bombers met the criteria required for passing of Phase 1 with scores of Satisfactory in all but one category, handling of wind drag. The test vehicles achieved a grade of Adequate in this category. The test took into account unusually strong wind gusts in the area during the week of testing. Testing in calmer conditions suggested that it would have achieved a rating of Satisfactory in this category as well had testing conditions been optimal.

PHASE 2: Defensive Flight [OOC: Based somewhat on McQuaide's earlier review, since McQuaide writes circles around me in terms of bomber test results. I'm more of a Navy guy myself!]

We operated the test vehicles on a low level flight trajectory after our earliest tests, which determined that the aircraft performed optimally at lower altitudes in preparation for launching its payload against a land target. We believe that impedes its abilities as a stealth vehicle somewhat, but we are willing to work with your technical staff to make whatever adjustments are necessary.

The large payload of the test bombers enabled us to perform the proposed missions for this test to Satisfactory levels for all but Payload Control, which peformed at an Above Average rating. We find that having a fighter escort sometimes impedes the efficient operation of our slower fighter escort aircraft, but we were very pleased with the presumed efficiency of the test vehicles for their purposes.

OVERALL EVALUATION: We were pleased with the five test vehicles and are enthusiastic about their potential for use in the Incorporated Sarzonian Air Force. We would be interested in future purchases of this vehicle for our own Air Force.

We have placed each bomber in a different test field. Some that survived were reused. The reults of each are as follows:

[code:1:817ab27dd1]Basic Flight
Speed: Passed, no particular comment from pilot.
Manuverability: Passed, but is obviously not made for barrel rolls.
Range: The plane was left in the air for a period of 20 hours. It landed safetly, despite the pilot being drowsy.

Basic flight is the only catagory that we were sure your plane would pass.

Fighter Evasion
Aero-Fighter attack from low orbit: Failed, though any bomber of this type would.
Jetfighter attack: Passed, fighters were not able to engage before the bomber was in position to drop it's payload.
Aerofighter attack from atmosphere: Passed, though barely. Bombing range was not reached before the fighters attacked, but the run was still a sucess.

Fighter pose a strong threat to the bombers.

Anti-Aircraft Fire
Flak: Passed. Flack never even got near it's altitude.
AAA: Passed. Missiles were evaded.
Anti-Aircraft Energy Fire: Failed. Ion blast shut down all electronics, the plane subsequently crashed.

Most anti-aircraft fire pose no threat.

Ground Crew
Sloppy maintenence: Failed. Plane was unable to open bomb bay doors.
Fire: Failed. Fire in the fuel lines causes the engines to malfunction and the fuel tank to explode.
Key parts able to be installed backwards, installed backwards: Passed. Parts apparently are strong enough to withstand the stresses.

Most aircraft fail all three. Feel lucky.

Total teardown and rebuild: Fail. Unable to rebuild without five hundred extra bolts. We should have ordered plans.

OVERALL: Fail.

NOTE: Crimmond standards are set for aero-space craft, not aircraft. We just wanted to blow sh*t up with other people's property.[/code:1:817ab27dd1]

Final Test Results, Geo-X Bomber:

Range: Global at cruising speed and altitude. Successful circumnavigation completed; however, fuel was extremely low when the aircraft landed.

Speed: High subsonic at cruising thrust and altitude; Mach 1.1 at redline thrust (though our pilots were not able to sustain this speed for more than 48 seconds).

Maneuverability: Low. The aircraft was not designed to evade fighters. It can turn well enough to hit multiple targets in a single run, but our pilots had difficulty bringing the craft around for a second strafing run.

Survivability: Moderate. The craft can survive and operate significant flak damage and fly with one nonfunctioning engine; however, even modest flak damage requires the pilot to drop below cruising speed to maintain structural integrity. The aft section, including the engines, were able to withstand at least one impact from a heat-seeking missile; the midsection took more serious damage from a radar-guided AMRAAM. Certain SAMs were capable of destroying the aircraft in one impact.

Stealth: High. Minimal radar profile, reduced thermal profile, high altitude and quiet operation drastically cut the risk of detection.

Final analysis: The Geo-X is a very good bomber so long as it is not spotted by enemy aircraft or it is well-defended by air superiority fighters. In global conflict, this requires fighters to be provided near the actual site of engagement, or it requires the Geo-X to seek targets with moderate air defenses or moderate readiness levels.

Addendum: Four aircraft were totally destroyed and six more sustained moderate to heavy damage in our tests. Can we send in the six damaged units for repair, and if so, how much would it cost?

Press Release
June 8, 2004
Law Offices of Burke and Cander

(Plerusque, New Paxum, RNC) Recently, several aircraft ressembling designs from the AeroNoxia Corporation of RNC have crashed into the Twin Swine Monument Towers of Greedy Pig. Our client, AeroNoxia Corp., has released a statement along with a detailed investigation. They have concluded that the claims made about the aircraft in question are false. AeroNoxia never agreed to deliver any of its new prototype aircraft, the Geo-X bomber (now known as the B-3B bomber) to the nation of Greedy Pig for testing. Additionally, our client has found that the aircraft which appeared to be originating from National Commonwealth were commercial jet-liners. No national carrier of the republic has reported downed planes, but air traffic over National Commonwealth is highly commonplace.

Due to the sensitivity of this engagement, our client will finance a fund in memory of those who have perished in this obscure accident. They will release full details later.

To Zoogiedom:

Thank you for your interest in our aircraft. We can send 12 bombers most efficiently to your nation in the next 4 NS months. If you wish to forego the reverse-surcharge of $300 million, we will. We do realize that is a burden upon you to test our equipment. That was the original purpose for the minuscule compensation. We appreciate your generosity.

AerNoxia Sales Office

Of course, we shall wish to forego the $300 million payment...it will be entirely unnecessary, because your aircraft will undergo wear and tear through any testing, and although we will be using resources, one of our corporations is at this time developing its own blended wing body aircraft and we hope that your aircraft's problem will help aid in our design, and that our aircraft's problems will help us make suggestions about yours.

Besides, our pilots will be having lots of fun...it's a pleasure to test military widgets, as always. Hopefully there'll be no deaths...

Report of testing the Geo-X bomber.
From: The Armed Republic of the Military Totalists.
To: National Commonwealth

TEST ONE: Rutine flying.
Lifting: Barely Passed. The Geo-X had no problem getting up in the air on a normal airfield, but on a smaller temporary airfield, the kind we use most of the time, these bombers would have a tough time.
Speed: Passed. Although a fighter could easily "capture" it.
Manouverability: Passed, although it is not as flexible as a fighter.
Landing: As lifting.

TEST TWO: In combat*
Escorts: The plane was most certanly in need of escorts, and this presented us a problem as our fighters did not have the range as the bomber. One solution was to have a carrier halfway between the target and the airfield in long-range missions, this operation would need some time to prepare and the carrier needed their own escort.
Another solution was to tow two fighters to the target, this did although give a minus on range and speed but was the best long-rang mission solution.
Damage: We are sorry to the two planes we cannot deliver back to you due to the weapons tests. Most AA weapons could not make any severe damage to the plane, but would force the plane to a higher altitude and precision bombing was not able. The problem is SAM, a well aimed SAM could break a plane in two parts, and so it did**, taking the crewmen with it.
EMP is a great problem, some electronics started burning and our personel had to be extracted. After the extraction we tested AAM on the plane. The aft could take a hit, but the engines were out. The body none.

Our nation is in sorrow for the two crewmen that died during the tests.

We'll send six planes and we'll wire you $800 million.

*The plane was never in real combat, but in our wargames.
** Someone had armed the SAM with a real and not a dud, this took the plane and two crewmen.
