1337 for the Rest of Us: A Guide to N00b Speak

We've all been there... you're tending to an RP or discussion or storefront, and all of a sudden, out of the blue, comes a flurry of nonsensical letters, numbers, and abbreviations. Now, most of the time, you just ignore it, mock them, or sigh and continue, but sometimes, you have to wonder... "Just what the hell were they saying?"
Wonder no more, ladies and gentlemen, for K-stan has provided this translator, free of charge! For starters, this is the alphabet of 1337, compared to English. There is no difference between upper and lower case in 1337, so I will only use caps in English, to keep things simple.
English Character = 1337 Sequence
A = 4
B = 8
C = {
D = |]
E = 3
F = |=
G = 6
H = ]-[
I = |
J = /
K = |<
L = 1
M = /\/\
M = |\|
O = 0
P = 9
Q = ()
R = \
S = 5
T = 7
U = |_|
V = \/
W = \/\/
X = ><
Y = '/
Z = 2
This is "Classic" 1337, spoken originally by hackers (or ]-[4><0\2) in the early 1990s, to disguise their speach in open chat rooms. The common variant of 1337 found in NS, called "AOLese", is a degenerate, lower-class version of this original language. Other dialects do exist.

There are some varitiations to that, of course. For example, C can be (, H can be |-|, I can be 1, L can be |_ , D can be |). Of course, you said there are variations to that, and so I am merely posting what some of them are

And now, for the common phrases:
0/\/\62 - Oh My God(z)
|\|035 - No! (as in, Oh, my God! No!)
1337 - elite
|\|008 - moron, new person
]-[4><0\ - Hacker
9\/\/|\| - PWN, to own something, to beat someone
In 1337, a "z" or "2" is used for pluralizing a word. Adding "zor" or "20\" intensifies.

w00t ( pronounced, woot): w00t. Commonly used on internet based forums, the word w00t can be used as an expression of joy. See "spiffing" and "By Jove! Good show, old chap"
OOC: So what do you folks think of my explanation of the F.U.-related acronyms? Pretty funny, eh?

First off, my complete appreciation for this thread. *tag*
Out of curiousity, is there an expression for a non-offensive new player? Someone who bothers to check the rules and sense of play before they dive in?

Ah, while 1337 is the official name, the common users of it on NS are n00bs, and so, on NS it is known as a "n00b" thing. Therefore, this title is far more accurate to the NS audience. It wasn't meant to offend, but more people in NS know "n00b" than '1337".

The Unfortunate State of 1337 on NS:
The lowest point of 1337 is that it attracts a lot of attention. Simply by entitling a thread "| |]3<14\3 \/\/4\ 0|\| 73]-[ \/\/0\||]", or more commonly, "i d3c14r3 \/\/4r 0n 73h \/\/0r1d", the author can usually recieve an instant 10 views, with a rapid increase in posts. However, this is not a good sort of attention, as it consists mostly of older nations wishing to bum-jump some n00b. They will generally not post when they see that is was merely a 1337-speak trap. You'd be better to find a cool title.

It does pop up once in a while as a real thing, but most of the time, it is a joke, or a bid for attention. It's never a GOOD thing.
