Earlier today, Prime Minister Jacobson made a speech which was broadcasted live on Praetonian National Television. The Prime Minister stood on a podium behind which hung the Praetonian flag:

"People of Praetonia. We are an island race. Throughout our history we have lived with the sea as our livelihood and defense, but also as our barrier. The seemingly unconquerable force that held us on the island that we call home. From this day on the sea will no longer be a barrier, but our domain!

Several months ago it was the opinion of myself, and my cabinet, that Praetonian naval forces should be drastically improved. To that end, we have already formed the Imperial Praetonian Shipyards (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=150382&highlight=), which have already become the most successful international corporate venture Praetonia has ever undertaken, but that is not all.

Over the next few years, the strength of Praetonian naval forces will be increased by several hundred percent, and the amount of trade we conduct with nations overseas will also be drastically increased. We intend to make the sea that surrounds our nation the most valuble asset we have, economically and militarily. Therefore I am presenting to Parliament, the Praetonian Maratime Bill, which will bring all of which I have just spoken into immediate effect. Thankyou for listening."

The Prime Minister stepped down to applause from the audience.

Of our 12% defense budget, 8% is spent on the navy, 4% is spent on the army. This is a conscious decision made for various reasons. First of all the navy is the best funded service as Praetonia is a (large) island, and requires a strong navy to maintain control of the seas surrounding the island. A strong navy is also required to project Praetonian power abroad, and to stage any form of offensive action. Next in the line of funding is the army, as an army is still required to undertake any sort of offensive action and very useful for providing defense. Last, the airforce, which falls entirely under the control of the navy, mainly because all offensive airforce units except the strategic bomber wing are flown from aircraft carriers and all Praetonia-based aircraft are for naval defense purposes.

We plan to start by constructing five such battlefleets, for the purposes of power-projection and maintaining naval superiority over a specific area. This will dobtless be further expanded in the future. The first of these battlefleets will be coming into service over the next few days (NS), and then one every six months (NS) after that.

Alongside these constructions, auxiliary fleets are being constructed to supply our fleets, and landing craft and ordinance production factories are already being built. These naval forces will most likely be further expanded in the future.

BUMP for comments, suggestion, criticism. Im new to naval stuff... all the ships I used can be found at Imperial Praetonian Shipyards which is linked to on the first post (stats and sale).

Ship designs are pretty good. However, taking only a few NS months between the release of a battlefleet is a bit off. You have 55 vessels in a battlefleet. I'm working on a super-battleship that takes 15 NS years to construct, never mind an entire fleet. My estimate would be the release of one every 10 NS years at least. And that's if you have very efficient manufacturing.

OOC: The idea is they have are already being constructed, and the first is pretty much built, it's just that only now are they being announced - Ive been planning this for ages I just havent had much time to post it.
