Granzi begins new Battleship

Granzi

As a response to the increasing number of nations with large "super battleships," the Commonwealth has seen fit to create its own. In the recently Daylami Conflict, it was realized that many foes now possessed this type of technology deemed a threat to Granzian interests. Parliament passed Resolution A-362 in a joint session, hereby setting aside funds and materials. Construction has begun, with the research and developmental phase just finished. (Note, this has been in the works for a while.)

The new Commonwealth Class is to serve as the Granzian flagship. Designed for power projection, the design incorporates two distinctive features, heavy firepower combined with aircraft assaults. Its 30 inch naval guns will be housed in 5 turrents, and heavily armored against attack. A host of recently developed sensors and systems will be on board, including a 3-D modeling radar suite. It has the ability to house up to 60 aircraft, thus removing the need for heavy outside air support. Naval CC is proud to say that every aspect of this ship was bulit in Granzi, thereby boosting the economy. Construction is projected to finish in 20 NS years.

To the nations of the world, you have nothing to fear. This vessel will be used only in situations where Granzi itself will be under threat. We do not wish for this to become a weapon which we throw around for our personal benefit. The Commonwealth is merely a safeguard, so we could protect our sovereignty and rights. Only one is expected to be built.

Thank you,

OOC: I wanted this to be realistic, not a doomsday weapon. I see too many nations now aday having uberships which just ruins RPs. This battleship, I toned down the weapons (triple turrents instead of quadruple, and 60 aircraft instead of 100 or so.) So hopefully this isn't godmod. Any feedback on the design or such is most appreciated.

OOC: If anyone could do a pic for me, please say so. I couldn't find any already on the web. Thanks.

OOC: Well, your draft is severely wrong. The actual draft limit would be around 12-13 metres, judging by the amount of displaced water (which is how you calculate draft.) At 90 metres it is likely you will be grounding the ship about 500 miles from shore.

Also I assume this is a monohull, in which case you will need to explain something. Because of th ehigh drag monohulls have compared to trimirans, your top speed is very optimistic at best.

No, it is trimaran. I'll change the draft, though.

OOC-Seems good. It'd be a good match for a Feazanthia or a Carlyle. Afraid that in a 1-on-1, a Doujin would trounce it though. Still, solid design.

I would suggest combining your 1", .5" and CIWS into one weapons system or at least almagamating your 1 and 0.5" guns into one (say a multi role 30-35mm weapon).

OOC: Ooops, didnt read it properly. Looks good, nice balance of weapons too. Certainly the best match for a Doujin Ive seen yet.

Thank you, everyone for your suggestions, we will evaluate each one carefully. This is just the first-draft blueprint, so the final product might have several changes in the design. Keep them coming.

OOC: Granzi, get to the war thread stat, soldier!

Daylam looks on with chagrin as yet another super-dreadnought is in the works. Daylam currently possesses a total of 0 battleships, dreadnoughts, and super-dreadnoughts. Although there are designs drawn up, financial restraints (OOC: The economy is collapsing) allow only a tiny navy of US ships to be used (270 total in the whole navy).

OOC: You gotta remember 5 of my Marx class dreadnoughts are probably a more then equal match for any of these and cost like 10%.

The GMS Commonwealth was launched at Hybalt Shipyards near the capital of Granzi City amid much fanfare and celebration. Due to the suggestions and comments made by the international community during the final design process, several improvements and changes have been made, including the addition of more long and medium ranged missile systems. More CIWS/RAM were also placed on the struction, and also the gun turrets were fortified at the base. Armor was added in select areas or the vessel, to decrease the vulnerability:
