Rotovian National News

Reporter: "....all accross Attica City, citizens are a buzz in preperation for the most important summit to be held in the Diplomatic Plaza since the Rotovia Accords. The government has extended invitation to Macisikan and other crucial nations in what is sure to be an intresting negotiation period. Given that no negotiations between our two nations have gotten past five minutes without a major arguement irrupting. It is unclear as to whether the summit will be opening to international delegates as yet, however security has been clamped down in the Capital City.

Next up, the dog that play poker...."

The Rengent read the telegram silently, then looked up to meet the eyes of the First Minister.
"You intend to agree to this?" he asked in a tired voice. He had slept badly.
"Maybe. You can't go, I can't go, and neither can the First Cardinal... not until we have sorted out the sucession." Vattyen snapped.
"Rotovia is would be a valuable ally, but..."
Uncomfortable silence built up.
"You and I both know that they're a pack of rude bastards," the First Minister ran her hand through her hair; she had not slept at all.
"Five minutes without an argument? More like two!" the Regent replied.
"But a straight refusal would be rude. Of us."
"We could send your Deputy."
The First Minister made a face.
"de la Valdar? I wouldn't let him lose on my worst enemy. And we need him here."
"But he's good. Damn good..." the Regent tapped his teeth with his pen thoughtfully.
"Fine," the First Minister shrugged. "It'll get him out of Arn-Maciska while we discuss that... idea of mine."
"Good thinking."

Three hours later the Deputy First Minister, Anton de la Valdar, Duke of Valdar, had boarded an air Maciska jet bound for Attica City. He was accompanied by numerous advisors, attendants, several clergymen, and a number of protocol officers.
The Duke was coming on Imperial business.

Several hours later the jet had touched down at Attica International Airport.

The Macisikani delegates, clad in the long coats of their homeland, emerged from the plane, their gazes sweeping the tarmac.

Several Rotovians waited to meet them; possibly dignitaries, possibly minor functionaries. It didn't matter.

A Macisikani protocol officer approached the Rotovians.
"His Grace, the Duke Anton de la Valdar, Duke of Valdar, Deputy First Minister of the Holy Empire of Macisikan, official of the Regent's Government."

The first man steps forward and extend his hand.

Diplomat: "I am Aaron Samson, with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. If Your Grace will care to follow me, we have a vehicle waiting."

In almost perfect timing the extragent entouragé, best associated with Rotovia, pulled in. The Diplomat headed towards the second limosine and opened the door.

The Duke inclined his head.

"Thank you Mr. Samson." he murmured in slightly accented English.

The Duke and his closest attendants climbed into the limo'. The other Macisikani climbed into the other cars.

The motorcade wound its way through Attica's streets, heading for the Diplomatic Plaza.

-------

The limos pulled up outside the towering building that was Diplomatic Plaza.

A Rotovian functionary stepped up to the door of the Duke's car in perfect timing, and opened it.

Duke Anton climed out and looked around, his eyes taking in the awesome sight in one sweep, clearly unintimidated.

Followed by his entourage, the Duke swept up the stairs to the entrance.

Stepping inside the Diplomatic Plaza, Mr Samson made a sweepign gesture indicating the recpetion area. As they stepping through the metal detectors the room's full size became apparent.

The roof, easily three stories high was supported by a series of Greco-Roman Pillars, providing a humbling feel against the solid marble floor.

Diplomat: "This building was built in the late sixties to serve Rotovia's groing diplomatic relations... if His Grace pleases..."

Moving aside he indicated they should enter a lift to their left, as he entered a security card and keyed in a PIN.

The Duke entered the lift, looking around the expansive reception area with the mild interest of a tourist.

The other members of his entourage either looked stonily ahead, or were constantly searching for security risks.

The doors closed, and with a soft whoosh the lift sped upwards, leaving the Macisikani stomachs somewhere around the first floor.

Mr Samson turned to the delegation, as the numbers flashed on the screens placed either side of the doors.

Diplomat: "This lift stops only on the 42 floor..."

He nodded at the Duke as lift stopped breifly, the screens read Security.

Diplomat: "...And breifly while the secondary megnets kick in, a handy safety feature"

The lift jeted back into action.

The Premier looked at this news event with great joy. It has nearly been a year since the ANL attended the diplomatic conference hosted by Rotovia last year, and since then, the ANL and Rotovia have had a great relationship. He sent the following message to Rotovia:

"Hello my good friends in Rotovia,

I would be honored if I, along with a delegation from the ANL were allowed to attend the upcomming diplomatic conference. If you would be so kind to allow us to join, we will be glad to help in making any arangements. Also, would it be possible to have me, the Premier of the ANL to meet with the president of Rotovia so we may be able to discuss the future of ANL-Rotovian relationships."

"Maglevs... interesting..." the Duke murmered in his odd accent.

The lift stopped with a suddenness that sent Macisikani stomachs up to the 54th floor, but for anyone used to the Imperial TransNet, this was normal.

The doors hissed open.

"Right this way your Grace," said Mr. Samson

The Delegates stepped out into what Rotovian called The Thomb, A tiny sterile looking, white room, featuring only metal for decoration. On one was a flat top desk and behnd it a door. Two offical in black military uniforms approached.

Diplomat: "Since firearms are banned in Rotovia for everyone bar military and police officers, the Government decided noone should be allowed to bring them into the Plaza...."

The officers proceed to scan them with medal-detectors and wave them through.

Diplomat: "Your Grace..."

They finally step into the Conferance Room, featuring a large mahogany circular table and posturpedic leather chairs.

The Duke stepped into the room, his eyes taking in the decorations.

The room was somewhat larger than that in which the ill-fated Prossian peace talks were held, but conference rooms have the same look the world over. There's probably a mould somewhere.

Again the Macisikani protocol office stepped forward, this time to give the Duke the full formal announcement.
"His Grace, the Duke Anton de la Valdar, Duke of Valdar, Baron of Valdaril City, Knight-Protector of the Realm, Defender of the Faith, Deputy First Minister of the Holy Empire of Macisikan, Seated Member of the Macisikani House of Lords, Official of the Regent's Government."

~~At Tenóchitilan International Airport~~

The diplomatic team prepaired to take off in the ANL's VIP jet. The beautiful Iu-86 rolled out of the hangar, it's silver and red body shined in the bright sun. The day was beautiful.

The Premier, dressed in a black short-sleeved shirt and suit walked into the plane, along with him came the Foriegn Affairs Minister, Dr. Darius Wellington and Cheif Soviet Congressman, Jorge Arroyo along with other delegates. The Premier turned to his office on the plane and sat down at the seat and began to review some files and documents, new legislation, threat reports and files about the upcomming diplomatic conference. Also, in a file was a top secret paper. Dr. Darius Wellington came up to him and they began to talk.

"Funny," Dr. Wellington said "our anti-gun laws are almost exactly the same as Rotovia's. We won't have to worry about the security check point."

"Well, we'll just have to see." The Premier leaned back in his seat. "This is going to be a long flight, are you sure you want to go, I'm sure Coyotepec (the Vice Premier) would like to go again."

"Oh, I've been wanting to go to a diplomatic conference for a while. After all, it is my job to try to establish good will towards the ANL with as many nations as possible."

"I don't know, I know we and the Rotovians have been long time allies, but, this time, I have a bad feeling. Nothing major, but something...important."

With that the plane took off.

The Duke billowed across the chamber like the wrath of God to President Baccheus.
"Have. You. Seen. This?" The Duke brandished a copy of The Arn-Macisika Times International.
The headline screamed ROTOVIA DECLARES WAR!
The President looked from the paper to the Duke, his face tightening as he reigned in his anger.
"You Grace-"
"Are you insane?" The Duke cut him off. "The Deputies, never mind the Lords, would skin me alive if I thought of signing a treaty, to say nothing of the international repercussions! Until this situation is resolved, I will be in our embassy. Good day to you."
With that outburst the Duke, followed by his entourage, swept from the room, down the lift and out of the building, where the motorcade took them directly to the embassy as if all the hounds of hell were following them.

Back in the conference room, one of the Rotovian ministers turned to the President. "Well," he said in brightly brittle tones, "they took that... rather well..."

In the Macisikani Embassy, a functionary handed the Duke a slip of paper.

The final sequence for the Macisikani Embassy in Rotovia...

"Pack up people!" The Duke bellowed "We're leaving!"

Within minutes columns of smoke rose over the embassy as the confidential files were burned, inside everything was being dismantled.

Less than an hour later the first Air Macisika jet departed Attica International Airport with embassy staff on board, bound for the Holy Empire...

The President leaned back in his chair, straightening the slightest fold in his Armoni blazer.

President: "Well Gentlemen, let's continue shall we? I believe the most crucial issue to deal with now is how we as individual nations can ensure that we can pursue the important ineternal changes we all need without the fear of the newer, more militant nations taking advantage of that..."

An aid enters the room and slips the President a Dossier, he reveiws it breifly before glances over to the Premier. He slides the manilla folder over the ANL Premier before speaking.

President: "Quetzalcoatl, it appears that a freighter bearing a registry of your nation has been seized by Customs."

Thinking for a moment he continues...

President: "Rotovian Customs Office Agents found over $12 Million worth of African Conflict Diamonds, banned under international law..."

The Premier looked at this file and was absolutly shocked. Could this be happening? No, the ANL government would have found this out before the shippment wento out. He looked at the list of where the diamonds were being shipped from towards the middle of the list was

[code:1:f7bff910a6]
Aztlan Jewelry Exchange--Proprioter: Ixcatzin[/code:1:f7bff910a6]

That was the Premier's brother...

The Premier, with a stern look in his eys, looked at the President and said "You know the ANL has been long commited to human rights, and if the government knew of this horrid scandal, we would have stopped it, but I swear, I will not allow this to look like the doing of the Aztec government. We will get to the bottom of this. May my agents interview the detained crew?"

The President knew that in such a situation it was his duty to distance himself from the nation in question and make such actions clear... but he held a certain repsect for the Premier and for the nation of ANL.

President: "I will speak with the Minister for Internal Security and will see what can be arranged"
