The Black Sun are the pride and joy of the Sigma Octavus military. Our elites, they lead the attack, fighting for glory and honor.
History:
The Black Sun can be traced back to the SPARTAN program, a program to create super soldiers in a time of great turmoil. The program was a success, and kept on for many years. After a time, the SPARTANs outgrew their use. They were transfered to positions of leadership in the military, and several were signed over to the next generation of Super Soldiers. The Special Operations and Extermination Teams, or SOET, were not as heavily augmented as the SPARTANs, but still more powerful than an average person.
Much easier to train and augment, the SOET were drafted at the age of 12 instead of the age of 6. They had the perfect place to train and recieve their augmentations. An ancient ruin found deep in the Great Sigmala desert was quickly converted into a military base. One of the most well kept secrets in Sigma Octavus' vast military history, only a few people knew of the installation.
The SOET were in some cases more of a success than the SPARTANs, being more easily able to blend into the civilian population of foreign cities. They weren't as resilient as the SPARTANs, but still very tough. Equipped with armor specially tailored to each soldier, they were very effective. The armor was all black, with ceramic, kevlar and titanium plating. Each had a computer built into it that supplied things such as NAV, IFF and several other features that would plug directly into the SOET's helmet. The armor was light and mobile, barely restricting the SOET's range of motion.
The SOET served in a number of engagements, their most notable being the war between NATO and North Korea, where they played a key part in Sigma Octavus' invasion of the port city of Wonsan, and the army's push to the city of Kop'ung.
The Black Sun:
The SOET made another change into today's Black Sun operatives. Though not used as often in conflict, the Black Sun deal with darker dealings withing the military such as assassinations, kidnapping and things of that sort. Two companies were specially picked for different purposes.
The Dusk company was highly declorated as the best killers of any of the companies. They were quick, efficient and unusually brutal. They recieved further augmentation to make them near that of their SPARTAN ancestors. Often carrying a variety of blades and other weapons with them, they are very lethal. Well versed in firearms usage and maintenance, they can field almost any handheld firearm. Trained in several forms of fighting, including those taught to the Russian special forces, they were deadly even without weapons.
The Dawn company. Almost the exact opposite of their rival company, the Dawn are much more social and likable soldiers. More than half of their numbers are women. They were given to the Sigma Octavus Foreign Relations as special tools. The Dawn are used in political assassinations, spying and things along those lines. They are never very armed, and prefer to use small blades and silenced weapons.
Standard Training and Augmentations:
All Black Sun operatives are brought into the military at the age of 8. The draft is completely random, and even several of President Erik Chaknov's half-siblings are in the Black Sun.
They are taught tactics and espionage until the age of 11, when they recieve their augmentations.
Augmentations applied are as follows:
Enhanced strength
-Can lift nearly 500 pounds while standing
Enhanced speed
-Top clocked speed : 25 mph
-Reaction time: .0006 seconds
Enhanced stamina
-Clocked time running full speed: 47 minutes 32 seconds
Reinforced skeletal structure
-Titanium in places, other metals used as needed
Neural implants
-Direct radio link
-GPS locator
-Remote link to Mark IV. Advanced Field Armor
After their Augmentations, they are taught combat skills as well as social behavior. The average Black Sun operative knows on average 4 languages fluently, with many other languages somewhat learned. They are taught customs of a number of areas, but not all.
At the age of 16, they undergo their first test. Each one is given a long and difficult test in the form of a mock mission. If they complete the mission perfectly, they are accepted into the Black Sun as part operatives. They may be operatives, but they pose as SOMI troops and partake in actual missions along side the SOMI. If they fail, they must partake in a different mission until they pass perfectly.
At the age of 19, after three years of SOMI experience, they are finally accepted into the Black Sun as full operatives.
Currently, there is only one generation of Black Sun, with the next generation coming to be full operatives in 4 years.
