With the Galactic Arms Race serving as a backdrop, the Skeelzanian Principality launched the first of its Targaryen class battleships. The four-ship class are being constructed on a staggared schedule: one ship is begun, then another the next year, and so on. With each battleship taking at least four years to complete, Skeelzania hopes to field the entire class within 5 years.
While the ships were plagued by last minute design changes (the accidental leaving-out of a shuttle port being a notable example), the Ministry of the Fleet managed to start production at Solomon Shipyards in 2194, though more delays were encountered during the Elvish uprising mid-year. The Targaryen is intended as a bridge between the limited-arc Navarro dreadnaught and the prohibitvely expensive Skeelzot battleships. Much larger than the Navarros, though smaller than the Skeelzots, the new vessels each cost just over 34 trillion Baskzs (2 trillion USD). Critics have alleged that the Principality cannot support a new class of warships, although the Navy points out the unsatisfactory Navarro is being withdrawn from frontline service.

The primary armament of a Targaryen is the four heavy railgun turrets, each mounting three guns. These have a wide field of fire, although none were included on the ventral side of ship. In addition, numerous missile and torpedo batteries provide long- and close-range firepower, respectively. The variable ammo missile launchers can fire "swarmer" rockets, or larger fusion-warhead missiles. Torpedo tubes fire the standard fusion warhead. Several PD Turrets mounting 1st generation Pulse Beam weapons engage enemy strikecraft and munitions, though there are doubts about the reliability of these new systems.
