The Insidious Class Electronics Warfare ship is the ultimate in specialist ships. It can carry out tasks that no other ship in most fleets (indeed in most navies) can do. It is carries standard Destroyer armament: small caliber naval gun, anti-air and anti-ship missiles, but these are merely there for defense and, more importantly, to make it look like a Standard Destroyer.
When deployed in an Electronics Warfare role, the ship can block enemy communication for miles, whilst hiding it’s only communication signals in the same carrier waves as the blocking signals. The ship can also flood almost every bandwidth with one dominant signal. Imagine the look on your enemy’s face as his vital reconnaissance report turns into your own National Anthem, or Propaganda, or whatever you want.
It is also capable of doing the reverse, overcoming enemy communication jammers, even without the enemy realizing, and again sending ‘enemy’ signals so perfect that they can be bounced off the enemy’s own satellites resulting in that reconnaissance report telling them what you want them know. No one will find out until the pilot returns to his carrier saying that his comms were blocked all along. Even that helps the enemy little, as they cannot then trust any of their radio intel reports and have to rely on word of mouth, and these are just some of this ship’s amazing capabilities.
So, if you want to throw an entire enemy fleet into disarray with firing a shot, the Insidious if for you.
Cost: $1bn
