History
The AAR-36 was agreed upon by the Ali'Staan Accord President and War Minister as a common assault rifle, to be an upgraded version of the G36, with the common 6.5mm Grendel bullet chosen as the standard bullet for all future developments. The 6.5mm was chosen as it extends the effective range of rifles, such as the AR-15, to ranges of 1000 meters. The 6.5 used is the 123 grain version.
Description
The AAR-36 is a gas operated 6.5mm assault rifle designed to optimize the effective range to as far as possible, to ensure that allied troops can shoot and kill enemy infantry before they can return fire. Being based upon the G36 has lowered development costs tremendously, and provided a high standard upon which improvements can be made. Thus, even if upgrades are minimal, the rifle is already at the top of the line.
Operation
Using a gas operated system differant to that seen on rifles as the M-16 has caused a decrease in the need for cleaning. Rather than have the gas chamber go all the way down the barrel, the chamber stops and uses a rod, with improved seals, to move the bolt back into place, preventing gases from the bullet to reenter the breech. It also allows less sand, dirt, or other debris from getting into the breech through the gas chamber.
Features
In addition to an M203 grenade launcher, the AAR-36 has a see through magazine, allowing operators to check the amount of ammo in the magazine, and a Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40mm LR/T M1 scope, with 3.2x or 10x (adjustable). This allows excelent aiming at long range and medium range.
Range
Designed to allow easy targetting at both medium and long range, with medium scopes available for short/medium aiming, the AAR-36 has an extended barrel (20") so that the Grendel will perform as the designers intended it to (OOC: so that I can just use what it was measured at with a 20" barrel). This allows the gun to target at an effective range of up to 850 meters.
Cost
1 Gun ( $1000)
+ 1 Grenade Launcher ($601)
+ 1 scope ($100)
-------------------------------------
$1,701
