In response to the recent collapse of His Holy Majesty the Cenobriach, the Frencham States leading coffee manufacturer is sending 2 tonnes of coffee. This is to help with the expected increase of consumption caused by the faithful citisens Macisikan staying up for extended periods of time waiting for news of their Matriarch.

Not to be outdone, the leading milk and sugar producers in the Frencham States are sending enough supplies to ensure that there is enough milk and sugar for everybody.

The reason for this is that on that day His Holy Majesty, the Cenobriach Akti Saniril collapsed while addressing the House of Deputies, and some idiot in the Office of International Telecommunications hit the panic button.

Most likely your embassy was affected, and communications were lost for the past two or three days.

Normal communications should be restored within the next five minutes.

The Cenobriach regained consciousness today in Arn-Maciska Imperial Hospital. Doctors say that the Cenobriach's stroke had "minimal effect on the brain tissue", but caution that His Holy Majesty's condition is serious, and that it may be several months before he is able to return to his duties.
The Lords and Deputies met upon hearing this news, and have decided to name the Archcardinal Perez as Imperial Regent until the Cenobriach is able to return to his duties.

Regent Perez has asked all Macisikani to pray for the Cenobriach's health."

The Cenobriach's condition worsened late last night as His Holy Majesty began to experience breathing difficulties. Doctors say that this may be a result of the minor stroke the Cenobriach suffered two days ago.

"We've just heard that the Cenobriach has been rushed into the ICU of Arn-Maciska Imperial Hospital; he's lost consciousness again; they think that his heart may have stopped... wait... we've just been told that the Cenobriach has had a heart attack. The doctors say they're doing all they can.

"We interrupt our regular broadcast to bring you this special news bulletin. The Cenobriach, Akti Saniril, is dead. His Holy Majesty was pronounced dead at 12:32 p.m. today at Arn-Maciska Imperial Hospital after suffering a second, major, stroke.

The Archcardinal has been confirmed as the Regent.

At 6 p.m. today the bells will toll throughout the Empire to signal the beginning of the period of mourning, and all Macisikani are asked to observe a minute's silence.

The Regent's Government has reportedly made requests that any nation with an embassy in Macisikan please send an envoy to the state funeral for the comfort of the Empire."

The newsman pauses and licks his lips nervously. He knows what he must say, but he's having trouble saying it.

"People of Macisikan... the link... the link between heaven and earth, God and man, has been cut."

At six the bells of churches and towers across the empire did not ring out the hour, but only rang once, signalling the beginning of the 7-day-long time of mourning. Flags across the empire, and in all of its embassies, were lowered to half-mast, where they would stay until the Cenobriach was laid to rest.

Political commentary circles are already rife with speculation on who will become the next First Minister.

This announcement comes only hours after the Regent, Archcardinal Jurez announced his imminent retirement; the Regent intends to retire from public life upon the coronation of the next Cenobriach, an event tinged with uncertainty.

The late Cenobriach, Akti Saniril, whose funeral will take place sometime next week, died without naming an heir to the Imperial Throne.

"King Victor I was told of the death of the late Cenobriach's death, he requested to be alone. He requested that Macisikan allow him to attend the funeral. In other news, the Prime Minister choked on a pretzel and was rushed to the hospital."

The Regent, Archcardinal Perez, invites King Victor I of the Penpushers to attend the Cenobriach's funeral, and wishes the Penpusher Prime Minister a speedy recovery.

OOC: OK, I've got all the TGs from various nations saying who's coming to the funeral, so I might as well plant the old boy. Oh, and this is a peaceful, very limited RP, so no terrorist attacks, etc. this post basically ends the matter, except for the other thread on the elections for First Minister.

Arn-Maciska, Maciska, the Holy Empire of Macisikan

The plane bearing the flag of The Irish Isle touched down at Arn-Macisika International Airport, taxing over to where the local officials waited to collect the dignitaries on board.

Prime Minister Daniel of clan Kelley stepped off the plane, shaking hands with the ubiquitous protocol officers that the Empire seemed to manufacture.
One of them guided him/her over to the motorcade waiting to take the Irish Isle-men to the Cathedral.

On another runway, the delegates from the Nomadic Peoples of Thearas were going through a similar process.
The Mater Familias Celabria had been in Arn-Macisika once before, and the city then had been a riot of colour, what with the banners, friezes, and people. Everything had seemed so alive.
Now the city had hidden itself beneath the stark shrouds of black, while above the skies seemed also to be in mourning; dark clouds hung mournfully over the land, and in the distance the great mountain ranges were hidden by heavy fog.
And the streets were silent.

They made their way to Arn-Maciska Cathedral, a massive edifice of grey stone, which seemed to claw at the darkened sky.
Outside hundreds of people in black stood impassively, watching.
They entered, where they were greeted by the First Cardinal and the Regent, who seemed to be operating on automatic.

"Thank you for coming."

Eventually the last mourner entered, and the doors to the Cathedral were closed.

The First Cardinal stood.

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today in the sight of God to lay to rest the body of the Cenobriach..."

Six men and women stood and took position around the coffin.

They were, Prime Minister Kelly realised with a start, the cabinet; all six superior ministers of the government.

Slowly they carried the coffin from the cathedral, where the ranks of silent Macisikani, who must have stood outside, in the bitterly cold Arn-Macisika air, all this time, parted.

Above them the bell of the cathedral began to toll, one ring for each of the Cenobriach's 98 years.

The coffin was placed on to a gun carriage, and the dignitaries arranged themselves around it.

Slowly the coffin was drawn through the streets, but when it passed underneath a triumphal arch, most of the Macisikani stopped; only the Temple Guard and the clergy continued to walk.

A protocol officer addressed the foreign dignitaries:
"We may go no further; that arch used to represent the city limits, and by custom only the casket, the clergy, the honour guard, and the family of the deceased is allowed to continue. It will be taken to it to the Holy City of Navisal, where there will be another service, a final service, for the family, and than it will be laid to rest alongside all the other Cenobriach's caskets, in the Valley of the Dead."

Mater Familias Celabria, familiar with Macisikani customs nodded. This was the way the imperials did this sort of thing.

As the dignitaries began to drain away, Celabria observed the Macisikani nobles and M.P.'s eyeing each other off. She knew that within a week the parliament would have met after several rounds of bitter political fighting to determine Ex-First Minister Dettaine's replacement.

And that would be a picnic compared to the fight over the Cenobriach's vacant throne; Akti Saniril, now making his final journey, had not named a successor... and there was no-one with a clear advantage.

One thing was clear; it would be unhealthy to interfere with the question of the Macisikani succession...
