Nova Ushuaian Air Force jets shot down an unidentified AWACS jet that was found flying over Ushuaian airspace without permission. According to intelligence reports submitted by the national government, the survillence airplane did not identify itself when told to do so.
The airplane is an older model Boeing 707 that is commonly used for AWACS. but within the last few years it slowly is being phased out by newer models such as the Being 767 aircraft.
In testimonies given by the Nova Ushuaian fighter pilots, they ordered the offending aircraft to identify itself quite a number of times. But no one aboard the enemy aircraft responded back. After relaying the results of their contact to their commanding officers, they were ordered to bring down the aircraft after it negated to comply with orders to land at the nearest military airbase on its flightpath.
Government officials believe that the B-707 was sent on a recon and surveillance mission to monitor and observe petroleum-based activities in the Patagonia region. It is believed that the pilots of the AWACS jets are being held in custody and held for questioning.
