Expedition Vanishes!

[Dateline:] Port Imperial, Roycelandian East Africa

An Expedition organised to find the legendary city of Boac, long rumoured to exist somewhere in the Jungles of Roycelandian East Africa on the shared border with the African Commonwealth and Lusaka, has failed to report in via radio for the 3rd consecutive day. The Imperial Air Force are trying to organise aerial searches, but thick Jungle prevents much from being visible- also rendereing Satellites and Thermographic Imaging totally useless.

The City of Boac- said to be the Capital of the Bokhara Civilisation which ruled the region from around 100BC- 1236AD- has been the subject of myth, legend, and rumour ever since the first Roycelandian traders arrived in the 1490s. Handfuls of Europeans claim to have found it, and most have either vanished after returning or gone mad.

The City's Treasury- full of gold, gems, and other valuable shiny objects- is apparently still intact, with the treasure still inside.

The exact location is a mystery, and the Imperial Government has dismissed calls for a Government Funded Expedition on the grounds that "It'd be Expensive and we probably wouldn't find anything anyway."

Speculation is rife on the causes of the Expedition's lack of communication, ranging from Hostile African Tribespeople, Dangerous Wild Animals With Sharp Pointy Teeth, Nasty Tropical Diseases, or Flat Batteries.

The Port Imperial Times is offering a $500,000 Imperial Wibble reward for information on the fate of the Expedition...

Thats a good Idea. My airforce can use napalm, agent orange and daisy cutter bombs.

Unfortunately, these are not viable options.

The Jungle area in question is territory disputed by Roycelandian East Africa, Lusaka, and the African Commonwealth.

We have a "Gentlemen's Agreement" with each other to keep military forces out of the area- and Napalming/Agent Oranginging the area would be a clear breach of that agreement.

The Imperial Government is under pressure to fund another expedition/search party to find A) the first search party and B) the city of Boac...

...if I stay too long people try to pull me down
They talk about me like a dog
Talkin' about the clothes I wear
But they don't realise they're the one's who're square...

The crackle of the obviously abused military radio grew steadily stronger as the BTR-152K drew near. Sgt.Kilawe's platoon were four hours into their absurdly long patrol across the less than well developed border area, and as such the Acting NCO was already quite off his face, as were most of his comrades.

"Woah!" Someone cried. "Try to stay on the road, George!"

"What road? What're you talking about? Are you driving this thing? Are you driving this thing?"

"You're bloody not, friend!"

"Don't encourage him, Manuel." Said Kilawe in an obviously chilled-out tone. "He'll be off again, he'll crash again, I'll fall down again just when I'm getting some sun, and you'll have to work the crane to get us out, again."

"Hey." Called George. "Shit, man, I think... we're lost again. I... think we're on the wrong side."

"George, for ****'s sake, there's no highway code out here, it doesn't matter what ****ing side of the road..."

"No, no, the border, I think..."

The Sgt. sighed heavily and, without rising from his relaxed prone position atop the APC, called for the vehicle to halt.

The Lusakans stopped, several encouraging the taller infantrymen atop the BTR in the hopes that they might see another trail while others squabbled over charts, the radio, and a bar of chocolate.

Half an hour later no decision had been reached, but a three-a-side football game had broken out in a clearing near by.

"Aie! Aw, come on! Why'd you kick it out there? Well I'm not going after it! Make George go!"

Baghdad,

Shortly after the reward is offered the Ambassador to United Elais from Roycelandia recieves a call from someone claiming to be from 'Echelon Ventures', he gives few details but simply says, "Your Excellency we're very good at finding people and we're also very good at not being found. A deposit of $100,000 wired to our account on CPI and a flightplan to land an unmarked 727 in Western REA and your problems will be solved."

Some things for everyone to note:

1. Roycelandia doesn't RP with Terrorists without prior arrangement by telegram

2. You have to telegram me asking for permission to either A) operate a terrorist organisation/incident on Roycelandian Territory and/or B) if I'm prepared to RP this particular development. For something as important as this, I would have thought a TG would simply be a common courtesy.

3. If anyone actually tried to operate a terrorist organisation in the region in question, then you'd have at least four very large African nations carpet bombing the entire area with napalm, daisy cutters, and Agent Orange.

4. Several members of this expedition (and most others of its type) are ex-military. All expedition members were armed (we Roycelandians love our firearms), and would have put up a hell of a struggle.

Just posting terrorist stuff unannounced will get your post IGNORED. No Terrorists or extremist groups are permitted to operate in any area under Roycelandian control, and we don't RP conflicts with terrorist groups unless we've been consulted first.

IC: The Ambassador to United Elias makes a few phone calls and then contacts Echelon. They're cleared to land a 727 at Tranter Airport (the nearest town to the border), and there is now $100,000 in their account in CPI...
