Bah, what is it with people and the Abrams? Acting as if it's the best tank in the world, "pffft" it what I say to that.

I was thinking more of the Praetonian Scimitar... but IRL yeh the challenger 2 is better in my opinion!

What are the stats for the M1A6 Abrams?

Not that I care, my Hussar and Paladin tanks would eat it for breakfast, and probably as a snack too.

OCC:I read that the Merkava 4 is considered the best tank in the world, but it mostly counts on the crew.

I'd say the Black Eagle is probably better, as it's more mobile and equally protected to other tanks.

An American crew in an Abrams would kill a German team in a Leopard II; if the crew is better, they will do better regardless of the tank. If I had super-human level training for my crews and you conscripted yours, my PT-76s would rape your Challenger IIs.

Don't underestamate German crew training. Its at least as good if not better then American training.

Yes, but german tank crews have little war experience for the latter half of the 20th century. They just recently got the balkans and afghanistan, but not really major tank opposition.

Where as the Americans had it really hard against a few hundred men with 7.62x39mm rifles and the odd RPG-7 here and there (and still managed to lose several Abrams). Hardly anything to prepare them for getting shot to pieces by modern European tanks.

And what in the hell, Fluffywuffy, could a 76.2mm gun do to a Challenger II? Get ten yards away so as to produce a clang the crew might actually hear?

OCC:As I recall we the US lost only 1 Abram tank in Iraq, and that was due to a very lucky shot from a RPG-7D, which hit an area where the armor is at it's thinnest. Anyway almost every person from his own country will say that there tank/airplane/rifles/SF/anything are better than other designs. Just so I dont derail the thread.

IC:We'd like to purchase 10 for military testing, and trials.

There is (or was) an annual tank gunnery competition for NATO in which each team must use the host nation's tanks. A friend of mine who has been in these competitions and used both the Abrams 1A2 and the Leopard 2 says they are both capable but, as far as gunnery is concerned, he'd take the Leo any day. He's also seen the Merkava and the LeClerc and while he'd be happy with any of them, if it they were lined up in a row, he'd be in the Leo.

Note that this was before the new, better armed Leopard 2A6 (longer gun) so, I'm guessing he'd be even more enthusiastic about it now.

A Lego tank (LeClerc) does not trump the Abrams.

heh. That's just cuz the 'don't ask, don't tell' policy doesn't let the Fab 5 do a make-over.

Superior firepower, superior speed, and lower profile + very decent armour > abhrams with strong armour. 120mm L44 sucks.

Also, there were two abhrams tanks taken out. One I believe was with the RPg-7(Wasnt that on the top armour?), the other is an unidentified kill, but assumed to be a French milan(Supplied by south africa, not france...)
