Ramjet External Water Jet Engines
Click here (http://csssrvr.entnem.ufl.edu/~walker/handbook/w063_8a.wav) for engine noise.

The Ramjet External Water Jet Engine (REWJE) combines caterpillar technology, modern soundproofing, and ramjet experiments to produce a nearly noiseless, and extremely fast, engine. The process begins when water is taken into the intake valves in the front. Rubber and special materials there help cushion the sucking noises. From there, nuclear powered high speed turbines accelerate the water in an enclosed, soundproof chamber near the center of the sub. To provide an efficient pace, the water is nozzled through a device that looks much like a modern rocket nozzle at the end of the engine. The sound you hear is the occasional bubble and closing of the valves. The noise from the nozzle sounds like normal sea static.

Stealth Features

To prevent MAD detection, the entire sub's exterior is covered with a lightweight plastic gel. The gel's contents are confidential, but they are completely waterproof and only need re-applying once every two years. The gel also streamlines the craft for easier movement through the water.
