The IF-48 is the Empire's new leading fighter development, being designed to be fast, deadly, carrier capable, and stealthy (as well as dead sexy)
Engines
As is standard on most Imperial fighter designs, engines are usualy already existing designs that are proven, with plently of parts out there for cheap maintainance and construction. It also saves time on development and lowers cost of constructing the design, less money needed to research the engines. Two F119-PW-100 engines, modified of course, rated at 40,000 pounds of thrust each with 3-D thrust vectoring are used to power the aircraft.
Avionics
Imperial avionics and radar technology are of the highest quality, even being able to detect stealth via unconventional means. The radar is located, as is standard on almost all arcraft in all nations, in the nose. Capable of targeting and locking onto 10 differant targets, automatically attack the most dangerous with missiles, including stealth, thus making the IF-48 a dangerous opponent. An infrared system with a shorter range has been installed when enemy aircraft are nearby and guidance is needed, but stealth is wanted.
Manueverability
The IF-48 is one of the most manueverable aircraft out on the market, making it as capable of air superiority as it is strike missions. This is helped by modifications to the engine to allow 3-D thrust vectoring technology and the manueverable design features, such as canards. In a knife fight, the IF-48 would do most excelant, guaranteed or your money back!
Stealth
As one can see, the design is stealthy, allowing the aircraft to become closer to invisibility as the radar is turned off. Turning on the radar would, of course, allow other aircraft to track the airplane. Which is why the infra-red system was included. Some weapons bays are located internaly for the more stealthy missions, and the aircraft is made of a stealthy composite material, very similar to the F-22's composite material.
Armament
For limited ground attack, and for anti-air capability, the IF-48 is armed with the standard 20mm cannon. In addition to this, the aircraft has the capability for 27 hardpoints, 7 internal bays, 6 external fuselage bays, 7 (each) hardpoints underwing.
Misc. Specs
Wingspan: 22 meters
Length: 23 meters
height: 6.8 meters
Weight (empty): 44,000 lbs
Weight (fully loaded): 99,800 lbs
Cruising Speed: Mach 2.01
Range (fully loaded): 1,000 with an external fuel pod
Cost
Not the cheapest airplane on the block, the IF-48 might actualy be realistically priced; even an F-15 cost $55 million. An F-22 costs $300 million. And so, an IF-48 costs $360 million per aircraft
