A major breakthrough has occured at the GFSR (Greek Foundation for Spacial Research).
Scientists and Engineers have managed to create a new $26 Billion Dollar re-entry and multiple use space shuttle. Christened the 'Famistocles' after the heroic naval warrior of ancient Greece it will have its main mission plan announced in 2 weeks. This comes just 4 months after the succesful launch of a human into space and 8 months after the launch of 2 satellites.
G&C have already made thier intentions known that they wish to militarise space with spy satellites and an SDI system, and a system capable of 1st strike capabilities without detection. Although this has been recieved with widespread critiscm, the Greek Government is assigning a new military mission based around 'the possibilities of the militirisation of space' and were given $1.9 Billion worth of funding just for the study itself.
The 'Famistocles' includes new technological marvels such as temperature resistant biological materials that shift as the vechile speeds up, being used as the vechiles 'skin' as scientists have dubbed it. An advanced auto pilot system capable of plotting the course to a correct location with 1 cubic mile is also included, as well as digital high frequency radio contact with Ground Control to allow easy speaking and almost DVD like quality when transmitting.
The Vechile is powered with a new breakthrough in propulsion, a hypersonic jet engine for take off out of the atmosphere, which can reach speeds as yet unclocked, but many scientists are now saying they have tested its take off speed at well over 66,000mp/h. The propulsion system for space itself is just as revolutionary - It contains a new mix of stable Hydrogen as a solid at absaloute zero, which is then heated up and added to liquid Nitrogen at temperatures well above 600*C to release massive amounts of energy. The fuel is not wasteful and scientists have managed to allow up to 3 - 4 months at speeds of up too 190,000mp/h in space using this method of fuelling which is also revolutionary due to its increased safety.
The scientists have also explain that special drugs have been invented to work to counter the effects of muscle atrophication and exposure to radiation like never before.
Said Dr. Zourtos of GFSR "These drugs are so effective, we have found that the quarantine period for cosmonauts returning is useless, as space's detrimental effect on the cosmonauts is almost wiped out, to put it in a fact: These drugs are 500% more effective than anything in existence."
The ship onboard contains the most advanced supercomputers to date, custom made by AMD, it links up a central Server hub with 1000 AMD Custom made chips clocked at 25Ghz each. This allows for unparraleled detail in examining planets and phenomenon - Each member of the 8 strong crew will have a link-off of this server on a easy to use touch screen or portable custom made PDA in his cabin.
The ship has also been rumoured to contain new styles of sensors, such as increased frequency range of thermal imagery, minute sound monitoring, atmospheric sensors and pictorial analysis by the supercomputer just mentioned, which can then process conclusions about the pictures accurate 99999.99999982%, as G&C Scientists explain.
The next issue will be preparing a reusable module pod that can be attached, for the first time, inside the ship itself, this will also be reusable.
