The Zeronian government has been growing hemp for medical purposes for years, and months ago passed a law that allows Zeronians to smoke marijuana recreationally. Recently, it has been found that Cannabis sativa grows very well in many parts of the country. The Premier announced today that the government will be growing hemp in three locations. If it proves lucrative, Zeronia will sponsor more hemp farms. Ideally, this will boost Zeronia's agricultural activity.
Hemp has been proven to have several uses besides smoking. The hemp will initially be grown for the textile industry. Scientists are working on producing a plant with low THC content. In the best case scenario, the hemp industry will complement paper and pulp and textile industries. There are also plans to use hemp for fuel and for construction. Low-THC strains may end up being used for food.
There have been talks regarding hemp trade, and the High Ministry has clearly stated that trading opportunities will become an issue later.
