ANN Special Report – “Voting Polls Open Today in Federal Election”

Magna Casa, Aequatio - It's that time again in the Aequatian Republic, the campaigns have been going for a while. Posters, T.V. Commercials, Radio Ads, Speeches and Debates rage through the Aequatian media, now it's time for the people to choose their next leader to represent them in the international spotlight.

1. Centralist Party - Leader: Kate Juno

Ms. Juno is a former Naval officer turned politician, served as Deputy Premier during the socialist age, became head of state after Premier Bomfy’s death. Now serving as Aequatio's current President, up for re-election.

Memorable Promises

- Improve the already-excellent education system, build more universities.
- Strengthen economy through pro-business governing, make Aequatio an economic power.
- Repeal many archaic laws limiting personal freedoms of citizens, legalization of recreational drugs on agenda.

2. Conservative Party - Leader: Eugene Fairbanks

Mr. Fairbanks is a former member of the Aequatian Supreme Court and has been part of the Aequatian political scene for a long period. Leader of Conservatives for third straight election.

Memorable Promises

- Improve National Security after incident with Aequatian Liberation Front over President Juno taking office.
- Repeal ban on religion put in place by Centralist Party under rule of Premier Bomfy.
- Loosen government regulations on business, allowing private ownership of companies.


3. Socialist Party - Leader: Tina Steinhagen

A newcomer to the Federal politics scene, Ms. Steinhagen became leader of the Socialist Party in a snap party election a month ago and has already made several promises to improve the rights and freedoms of Aequatians.

Memorable Promises

- Improve Healthcare and Social Welfare by re-organize spending within the government.
- Decrease military and police spending, teach laws to citizens early and promote rehabilitation programs versus punishment sentences.
- Re-write Bill of Freedoms, eliminating limitations on freedoms and civil rights placed on citizens.


4. Green Party - Leader: Nicole Lupine

A venerable Aequatian politician, long time member of the National Senate and of several Senate Committees for environmentally-friendly alternatives on national issues, Ms. Lupine has never ceased to go out of her way to improve the natural assets of the Republic.

Memorable Promises

- Keep environmental practices while improving many others, ban nuclear energy and introducing alternative methods.
- Place taxes and fines on industries and corporations which pollute or damage the health of the nation and its natural setting.

OOC: I'd like to take a different approach to this election by asking that people who vote RP their vote and motives behind it by RPing a character, whether it be a landed immigrant from your nation in Aequatio allowed to vote or as any Aequatian citizen (rish, poor, average, young, old... etc...).

Walter Cash was, dispite his name, rather poor. he had had a fortune, 3 million USD, inherited from his parent's Small Aviation Buisneuis back home. but he blew it all in a single day when he tried to win another 20 million gambling. so, he washed up in Aequatio with some $10,000 dollars that he saved up in his personall account, Some Rags for Clothing and and a few Ounces worth of Tin in his battered Backpack.

so, he decided to vote for the Centralists, as they where ruling the country fine, and who would want to ban Nuclear Power?

Another Bump.

Mike Ginsberg was sitting on a street corner in Aequatio's largest port city, playing his guitar and singing songs as passersby alternatively dropped coins into his guitar case, or gave the grungy long-haird 20-something dirty looks.

Fellow workers pay attention
to what I'm gonna to mention,

He had just cast his last vote in Aequatio and was now ready to hop on a ship heading to a neutral port hoping to find there a ship headed for any CACE member state. Once there he would make his way to Port Bakunin. "Port Bakunin." The words rolled off his tongue. He had heard many wonderful tales of that great City of Liberty!

He thought back to his his vote. He was very swayed by the socialist platform, but a mental picture materialized before he entered the voting booth:

When he was alone with his ballot, his mind was made up. He hastily scrawled the words "Smash the State" on it and dropped the damned thing into the box.

His mind wandered back to dreams of Port Bakunin...

Presidential Office, Magna Casa

Juno sat in the Presidential Office, watching the election results being displayed on the television.

"Damn it, those are pretty close numbers," she though nervously, "What is wrong with people? Don't they know that this is the founding party of the country? We know best!"

She sat back in her chair and sipped at her coffee as she looked over campaign strategies.

The Martyr's Forum, Downtown Magna Casa

Tina Steinhagen looked around at all the people that were sitting all around the podium, awaiting her to come out and say anything, "That's unnerving, but I have to go out there and speak with the people."

She psyched herself up and walked out on stage and the crowd went up in a loud, long cheer until she got to the podium.

"My fellow comrades... the cold, uncaring administration of Ms. Juno is to come to an end tonight, and not by the hand of the fascist fat cats of the Conservatives or the weak-willed Greens. This is the people's time now... it's time for what we want and for us to run the show!"

And with the crowd chanting and cheering for more, Steinhagen simply blew a kiss to the crowd and walked off the stage.

Grand Ball Hotel, Magna Casa

Eugene Fairbanks stood with his collegues. which he had chosen to be his cabinet should he get into power, as they watched screens with the poll results on them, "Well, Gene, at least you're doing better this election," laughed his Minister of Defence-to-be.

"True, but it'd be nice if that bitch Juno would just lose this time... she's only in power because that relic Bomfy bought it," commented Fairbanks as he then took a sip of wine.

Janie was reading ove rcampaign promises, trying to decide who to vote for. But as she read she became a bit suspicios.

"Why do we need to improve an already excellent education system? And we already are an economic power... and drugs are already legaL!" she finished, crumpling up the paper. "That Kate Juno is a lying little... she doesn't want to help us, she just wants to feel special by being in power! Everythign she promised has already been done. A good politician would never do that!"

She runs outside, and finding a Kate Juno for President sign, scribbles on it to read her promises, they've already been done, and goes to the polls to vote for someone else.

As representative of the People's Republic Of Neo Pacifica, here's wishes that the election runs smoothly having these fine canidates talk about the issues important to their countries and try to avoid this image of hypocrisy and mudslinging that we see too often in other nations.

Although in all honestly, I have a personal bias towards the Socialist Party of Aequatio, here's good luck to all the party canidates and in short...we look forward to good stable relations to the leader of this nation no matter the winner.
