*BBC NEWS SPECIAL REPORT*

Pyorg, Balalaika-Most of Balalaika, a republic within the Socialist Union of Galdania, has been under the control of Raith Mohammed and his band of rural tribesmen for four days following an attack by 600 of Mohammed's horsemen against nearly 5,000 Galdanian soldiers. Somehow, Mohammed's guerrilas managed to rout the Galdanian troops, killing, capturing or wounding almost 700.

Mohammed claimed immediate victory, and revealed his constitution for the new Independant Territory of Balalaika. The new constitution, signed by Mohammed and several Balalaikan tribal leaders, states that Bahlalai will be the new official language for Balalaika (before it was Arabic and Galdanian), and that the government will be made up of a council appointed by the new Chieftan of Balalaika, Raith Mohammed's brother, Tqral.

While only 14% of Balalaikans are official 'Bahlalai Plainsmen', all of those on the new governing council are rural tribesmen from the vast Bahlalai region that makes up most of Balalaika. However, only 16% of Balalaika's population lives in Bahlalai. Most live in the capitol or the cities in the east of Balalaika, in the Tzekimbai region.

Mohammed has stated that there will be no capitol 'city' in the new Balalaikan Territory, but that the Paipan Caravan, a huge nomadic group of horse-drawn wagons, will be the functioning base of operations from the government.

Mohammed says that he favours a 'traditional, nomadic way of life' as opposed to the Galdanian method of urbanization of the Balalaikan area.

Galdania fired artillery into Balalaika for the past three days after withdrawing troops from the region. The Galdanian Central Authority has threatened Mohammed with death if he does not surrender Balalaika.
"Raith Mohammed is holding 15.9 million Balalaikans hostage. He is a madman. He has no way of winning, thankfully, for if he did, it would mean years of hardship for the people of Balalaika" said President of the Galdanian Central Authority, Abu Dihval.

"Sir, can we have a reaction on the situation in Balalaika?"

"Certainly, it is the policy of our government that people generally have the right to self-determination and we laud Raith Mohammed for having the courage to stand up to the autocratic government that seeks to control its people through an oppressive and totalitarian communist system. However we do not condone violence against the Galdanian military forces and we express our wish that the government learn from this massacre that its citizens must be treated with more respect. That is all I wish to say on this matter."

My computer does it oddly. To make an ', I need to press the ' button twice. But, if I press it once and then press a letter, it comes out like this: é, á, ó, ï, ö, ú, í, etc.

IC: Galdanian Artillery strikes continued for the fifth day, putting holes in the ground all along northern Balalaika.

Galdania does not appear to be targeting any particular area, or indeed any populated area. It would appear that the GAF (Galdanian Armed Forces) are simply calibrating their weapons in case they actually need to be used.

Galdanian jets flew low over northern Balalaika, putting on an impressive display of power. Anylists think that Galdanian Central Authority President Abu Dihval may be trying to convince Raith Mohammed and his brother Tqral to surrender peacefully by showing them what the Galdanian military is capable of.

Balalaikan horsemen, under the command of Raith Mohammed, attacked a Galdanian military outpost in southern Galdania, bordering Balalaika. The outpost was a major communications hub, with access to nearly 80% of Galdanian spy sattelites. Rather than have the Balalaikan tibesmen take control of Galdania's Orbital Defense Network, seventeen Borov bombers destroyed the facility. It is uncertain how many Balalaikans and captive Galdanian communications workers were killed in the air strike.

President of the Galdanian Central Authority, Abu Dihval, commented on the attack. "Raith Mohammed has shown himself to be a ruthless man. He and his follwers attacked an unguarded outpost, run by unarmed civilian workers. Galdania has authorized the killings of Raith Mohammed, Tqral Mohammed, and any members of the 'Governing Council' appointed by Raith Mohammed, by any means neccesary. We will bring Raith Mohammed and all of his followers to justice."
