Cult Seizes Control of Developing Nation
Fifth Sun

After winning its independence seven months ago, Fifth Sun’s fledgling national government collapsed just one day after seven government officials (including former head of state Talib Muharta) were found slain and mutilated. In the ensuing turmoil a radical religious organization calling itself “The Chosen” seized control of all government entities and major businesses. One day later the cult’s leader, Vyrose, declared Fifth Sun a “Sanctified Nation”, in a national address over the Highest Truth News Network (Part of the newly formed Highest Truth Media or HTM, which includes three television networks, eight newspapers, and six radio stations, and is now the only media within Fifth Sun) and announced that a “Virtuous rain is washing the nation of indulgence and transgression”. Vyrose also announced the nation’s withdrawal from the United Nations and other international entities claiming that he is “instating bold new measures of Righteous Sovereignty”. As all businesses within Fifth Sun have been nationalized and now serve the new government, Vyrose articulates that a “Hallowed private sector now adheres to the will of the Omnipotent”. Over the next few days the government structure was reorganized and all control was given to Vyrose and a few of his most dedicated and trusted acolytes. At first the people of Fifth Sun seemed livid, and poised to overthrow the new government, but within days of The Cult's new “Crusade of Enlightenment” which included indoctrination through HTM, electro-shock therapy administered by The Chosen “clerics”, and “retreats of piety” located at former prisons and military bases, the populous seems eager to serve and defend their country with their “Lives and Eternal spirits”, as one zealous young man spoke on Highest Truth News Network. Before the collapse of the government, The Chosen was seen as a radical fringe religious organization, Vyrose preached self sacrifice, the evils of humanity in absence of restraint, violence against skeptics and nonbelievers, and The Chosen's central philosophy of a singular consciousness in all living organisms, dubbed "The Omnipotent". While the international community has been silent thus far, the government has been preparing for external interference by creating vast networks of tunnels across the nation and arming the fervent citizenry. Vyrose affirmed earlier today that any “Unholy meddling in our sacred affairs shall be met with the fury of the Omnipotent”.

A small camp somewhere in the Fifth Sun wilderness, one of the last remaining resistance camps...
An aging man in a general's uniform is in a tent and is frantically scribbing notes on a piece of paper when another man in a what appears to be a very worn and battle damaged military uniform enters the tent and salutes his superior.
"Sir" he said, "Apple Zer0 is planning to invade the country and overthrow the cult"
General Zarkadov sighed and ran his fingers through his balding hair.
"Shit!" he exclaimed under his breath, "If they invade the country and overthrow Vyrose, the entire nation will be in revolt and many shall die... we cant let this happen, get me a telegram to AZ NOW!"
The Corporal nodded and vanished out of the tent, moments later returning with a stocky, balding man clutching a notepad.
"W-what shall this telegram say sir?" the stocky man's lip quivering as he spoke"
The General took a deep breath, then spoke, "It shall say that the nation of Apple Zer0 shall NOT invade Fifth Sun, due to the entire nation supporting the cult and willing to sacrifice themselves for it." he thought a moment, then continued "They can however, supply the resistance with arms and other supplies, for guerilla war is the only option"
The stocky man nodded and saluted the general, then hurriedly rushed back to the communications tent.
"I hope it gets there in time" Zarkadov mumbled to himself.

A covert communiqué was sent to the fifth sun resistance fighters.
We understand that this is a very delicate situation and requires specialized tools and tactics. Weapons-Tech incorp seems to rely on his trusty broadsword when in fact a scalpel is needed. Judging from some of the mounds of dirt that are appearing on our satellite photos we believe that the cult is very well in trenched and a bombing campaign will not be overly useful. We are not one for fighting women and children so we will not be sending the armoured divisions to sweep over your land, yet.
We are willing to supply your fighters with armaments and the like we simply need a list of supplies you require. We will also be sending in several special forces operatives to both train your men in the usage of the advanced weapons and to gather information on how we can most effectively help. Please send a time and location, preferably at night, and we will covertly insert a few teams and supplies into your country.

He opened his TG box read what it said and said to himself "Shit the bombs are already falling" He then sent a reply TG to the camp saying he would call off any bomber that has not droped its payload. All AZ forces will be put on hold. If revolt still occurs the invasion will resume.

The sun set in the jungle as General Zarkadov ordered the following telegram to be sent to Nova Hope and assisting nations.
We appreciate your understanding of the delicacy of the situation at hand and further appreciate your aid in it. Currently Vyrose's forces control the entirety of the nation's territory, except for this jungle that is located about 60 kilometers to the southwest of the capital, this is where we have made our encampment. There were pockets of resistance to the north and to the east of the capital, but after several days with no communication we believe that they have been exterminated. It is of the utmost importance that this telegram reaches you in a timely fashion due to what appears to be much Cult activity on the outskirts of the jungle. Several of my scouts have spotted forced labor camps and military encampments to the west and the northeast, we believe they are planning to comb the jungle. If this is true we require much assistance in the form of ammunition, arms, medical supplies, and foodstuffs for the ensuing battle. We also require vehicles capable of movement on many types of terrain, for we must be extremely mobile in order to execute our guerilla war. All that remains of the pre-cult government military is myself and about 400 soldiers scattered across the jungle. Most of these soldiers are from the special forces unit that were used by the previous government to comb the country for drug traffickers and fought as guerillas in the civil war. They have extensive experience in this terrain but require more weapons and ammunition to fight the cult. As for the delivery of these supplies we suggest air-dropping them to the coordinates we have provided for you in this telegram. However, DO NOT enter airspace to the west and northeast of the jungle, or they will follow your planes to our camps. Delivery of these supplies must be swift, by tracking the cult's movements into the jungle we anticipate a battle in 3-5 days depending on weather conditions. we believe they number in the thousands and are heavily armed, possibly by external entities. Once again, we appreciate your assistance in this matter.

The B-2s entered fifth sun airspace just after no light. Captain Larson had flown a lot of time in simulators and logged an impressive amount of training time but this would be his first official sortie, if the government ever unclassified this mission that is. The plane handled a bit differently with the modifications. The modifications being the bomb bay and counter measure were hollowed out for a load of ATVs. Larson had never bombed anyone with an ATV but judging by the parachute rigging on it there was someone down there who brass wanted to have this stuff. The B-2 in front of him began to open up and men began to drop out. Looking across the echelon on his right he saw a variety of boxes, ATVs, hummers, troops and the occasional fuel canisters. Looking over at his F-17 escort Larson closed his bay doors and began to bank and climb out the way they came. All of the planes here were the latest in stealth technology and he didn’t expect anyone to detect their exit. The formation leveled off at 30K ft and continued on the planed flight path out of hostile territory.
Meanwhile on the ground, the spec ops took defensive positions around the gear while others began to open up crates and attach trailers on the ATVs and Hummers. One of the all black suited men held his hand to his head and broadcasted a radio signal to the guerrillas. “General your friends and presents are on the ground. We are 2kms NE of your last reported position and we require further instruction. I don’t believe we were detected but I’d like to get out of the heat if you know what I mean.” Within minutes of the message being sent the entire airdrop was loaded into the Humvees and trailers. The black suited men simply sat in an eerie calm as they made no noise. Their breathing contained in the suits and their conversations done over microwave these men and women were motionless but aware as the HUD in their suit ran inefficient thermal scans in the hot night.

Back at resistance HQ deep within the Fifth Sun jungle...
"General!" a lieutenant exclaimed rushing toward Zarkadov, hurriedly saluting his superior, "we have just received a transmission from Nova Hope soldiers, they are in the jungle and have brought the supplies, they wish to know what to do next"
The General thought a moment, "tell them to bring the supplies here and to keep an eye out for cult soldiers, and DO NOT engage them unless spotted"

“They want us to go to them?” the incredulous look could almost be seen through the full armored face plate. Shaking his head the armor suited man began to motion around in a silent fashion. The microwave receivers in the helmets of his team bristled with his firm orders.
“Bennet, Yamamoto, Sato, Van Buren take point in echelon watch for movement. The rest of you grunts make sure we don’t leave any equipment behind, you in the Hummer try not to be too obvious we are trying to sneak. Comms send a message to the resistance, we’re traveling towards them at 10 kph, ETA approx 10mins.
The walk to the camp was uneventful, it being only 10mins. Walking into the camp the men looked around to survey what they’d be working with for the next while. (Need more details on your resistance fifth)
Meanwhile thirty thousand feet above the country, a modified for recon B-2 bomber flew about the area gather high detailed photographs of possible targets to be identified by the resistance. This was dangerous however, at this altitude and with their stealth technology it was considered an acceptable risk. *click whirr click* went the telephoto lens as the black wing swept through the night sky.
Ooc: Hey fifth can you give me some info on your country? I’ve kinda assumed that the developing cult can’t detect the stealth planes if I’m being to presumptuous just tell me. If there is info you don’t want to share with everyone simply TG k?

The General rushed out to greet the new arrivals flanked by his assistants and personal bodyguards. He spent the next hour or so detailing his forces to the commander and explaining to him the intricate topography of the Fifth Sun jungle. He informed the commander that he commands approximately four hundred men that are mostly Special Forces from the previous government.
“Many of these men” he continued, “Fought by my side in the war for independence, they have extensive knowledge and experience with this jungle and most of the country. In order to know which direction the cult’s forces are making their way through the jungle I have positioned them in twelve small camps like this one across the jungle”
He continued to explain to the commander that their knowledge of conventional weaponry is sufficient but they require training in the use of the more advanced weapons.
==============================================================================================
Three men in black hooded robes walked with purpose down a dark corridor somewhere deep underground in the catacombs of Fifth Sun’s capital, their features almost revealed when in proximity to the radiant blaze of the torches that hung from either side of the ancient stone walls. Once the figures reached the end of the corridor they entered into an elevator that ascended upwards and into the Fifth Sun capital building. The lift doors opened and the robed men stepped out and were greeted by a lengthy hallway that led to the immense doors of Vyrose’s office. They advanced down the unlit hallway guided by the moonlight that cast itself onto the marble floor and ran parallel along the floor to the office doors through the windowpanes. The guards immediately recognized the men and opened the massive doors allowing them to enter. Once inside the men stopped and waited for the doors to shut. The office was consumed in darkness, the only light emanating from a tall, slender vertical window directly behind Vyrose’s desk, where a small candle burned. The window looked out over the front of the Capital building from dozens of floors up and onto a newly erected statue of Vyrose that stood in the center of the gardens and gazed down the middle of the main street of the capital city. At midnight the streets were now illuminated by the torches of patrols that roamed the streets. Once the entrance had been shut the hooded men approached the enormous oak desk and stood silently. After several moments the iron chair behind the desk slowly began to rotate towards the men until facing them.
“Your holiness” one of the men began to speak in a shrill and penetrating voice. “We have located what appears to be the last pocket of resistance in the country, two hours ago resistance fighters were spotted in the jungle to the southeast. One of our units overheard a dialogue between a group of resistance soldiers conversing about the arrival of new arms and equipment from an unspecified foreign nation.”
For a moment the room was enshrouded in silence, until a low, cold voice from across the desk interrupted, “Most alarming.” Vyrose leaned forward with his fingers entwined and his elbows on the cold oak desk. There was another moment of silence as a fraction of Vyrose’s face became exposed by the gentle, yet furious burn of the candle on his desk. “Leave no one alive”.
OOC: Nova, Fifth Sun is a small third world country and does yet have the ability to detect the presence of your stealth planes. However, they are financed and are being given advanced weapon systems from unknown external entities. Their army is large considering their population, conscripted and heavily armed. Air Force and Navy are nearly non-existent but this may change as time progresses. Also, any nations wishing to join this RP may only do so if they respect the delicate nature of the situation, DO NOT expect to come in and declare “I don’t like u, i’m gonna invade yer ass!!!!11” and expect not to be ignored.

The commander smiled inside is helmet at the general, this seemed like the kind of man he liked. When the general approached him he removed his helmet tasting the sweet, moist jungle air. The commander introduced himself with a smile and a handshake,
“Duncan Comstock, Colonel, Noviet Armed forces. Good to meet you general, your bio doesn’t do you justice.”
With that the General proceeded to explain the situation, topography of the country and experience of his men. Comstock listened patiently and took in the situation. This was going to be uphill for sure, not impossible but definitely up hill. When the general was done Comstock cleared his throat and then did inventory.
“Well I’ve brought two hundred men with me. Fifty Hummers, two hundred ATVs (Some of the ATVs are on trailers pulled by the Humvees) and a shit load of supplies. We’ve got 800 M16s each with optional silencer, ten clips for each gun, two hundred fully loaded first aid kits, a fully loaded hospital tent with some assembly required, 16 800 rationed meals enough to last your men two weeks, enough fuel to run the vehicles for two weeks, fifty modified stinger launchers, five hundred missiles, ten 12.7mm TAC-50 rifles several thousand rounds included, fifty C7CT 5.56 mm rifles with several thousand rounds included as well as optional silencers, and of course the services of my independently supplied men.” Comstock smiled before continuing.
“But what we need to know is your plan, we’ve brought a comms unit for ourselves so we can keep in touch with HQ. We’ve been doing recon over the country ever since we were dropped off, we’ve also go the country under satellite scrutiny one have been put in geo-synchronize orbit so we can tabs on large troop movements.” The general looked back over the convoy, his men and the resistance fighters were already unloading it and putting things where they needed to go. Several of his team had already removed their headgear and were starting to laugh and smile. The jungle temperatures reminded them of home, the Pacific jungles of Nova Hope, the only difference is here there aren’t large cities and highways.
“And general we need to know if you have any inside men, it’s fairly important because we need to know what the cult is planning for us. They have numbers but we have technology, or we will because stuff is merely an air drop away, but remember when we call it in there’s at least a four hour delay before it gets here. Honestly I think one of our priorities should be establishing a foot holds so we can supply you better but you know the situation better so I’ll be differing to you, for now.”
Ooc: With the recon and the satellite passes I can’t imagine it’ll be to long before I discover that you’re being supplied by foreigners. But I’m gonna leave that up to you for the sake of the RP. Just a heads up, once I find out your being supplied this way I will stealthily blockade you, i.e. subs stealth bombers, I’m making every effort not to be named.

A couple of resistance soldiers paced back and forth through the sodden, sweltering jungle making their rounds as lookouts in one of the outer rebel encampments that encircled the central command camp located deep within the jungle.
“This just doesn’t make any sense…” one of the soldiers sighed “They said, two weeks ago that we would be fighting the cult by the end of the week, and so far we’ve yet to see one of those bastards less than ten miles from one of our camps…”
The other soldier nodded in agreement as the faint hum of low-flying planes was heard over the treetops to the northeast, the direction of the Fifth Sun capital. They both looked to the sky and saw what appeared to be a squadron of low-flying bombers moving at high speed toward his camp. The talkative soldier immediately ran to the communications tent to inform his commander. The other soldier stayed however to observe a dark plume of smoke that arose from what he believed was the location of another resistance camp several miles to the northwest. A moment later he heard a small, yet thunderous explosion of a frag grenade emanating from the nearby camp, followed at once by the bickering sound of small arms fire. After a moment all was still, in the silence he saw a brilliant burn of bright red radiating from the camp. “A flare” he thought to himself as he looked towards the low-flying planes to see one deviate from its course and fly towards the fiery red aura. After a minute or so a flurry of missiles was launched from the plane that littered the encampment with numerous explosions, completely obliterating it. The soldier looked around the camp to find it in total chaos, hurried commanders were barking orders to the men that scampered around the camp setting up machine gun nests and preparing the camps defenses. Inside the communications tent a young, bookish man was yelling into an antiquated radio “they just took out camp 9!!”. The young soldier got in his assigned position and waited for the enemy to show themselves. A minute later the soldier felt a slight unease in the pit of his stomach as the air in the camp seemed to turn a faint purple. He blinked several times to make sure his eyes weren’t playing tricks on him when he saw several soldiers nearby beginning to cough violently and vomit as the silhouettes of what he recognized as cult soldiers appeared out of the foliage on the perimeter of the camp. The soldiers wore gas masks and dark overcoats and seemed to be outfitted with all kinds of foreign equipment ranging from thermal goggles to advanced assault rifles. Before the young soldier could finish his thought dozens of enemy soldiers charged the camps defenses as the resistance fighters opened fire on them. The young soldier fired several rounds into the faceless enemy hordes but was taken aback when he looked over his shoulder to see more Cultists appear out of the foliage to the rear of the camp armed with flamethrowers unmercifully spraying napalm on the backs of rebel fighters and over the tents. The studious communications officer was wrenched from his post and decapitated by what the young soldier recognized as a Cult Cleric holding a rusted, crimson soaked sickle. He could tell by the insignia on his armband that he was a high ranking official in the Cult, probably commanding this vile flock of Cultist warriors. The Cleric then pointed at the young soldier as several Cultists took aim, slaughtering him. In his last few breaths of life the soldier opened his eyes to view the Cleric lighting a bright red flare and tossing it into the center of the camp.
The extermination had begun.

Muktar - We greatly appreciate your enthusiasm for quelling the insurgency, our generals inform us that we need no foreign troops at this time, but if the need for commitment of troops from outside Fifth Sun arises we will contact your generous nation.
Covert Communications from FSRL (Fifth Sun Resistance League) to helpful nation(s):
Nova Hope - We are located in the South Pacific on a small island (about half the size of Haiti) about 2000 kilometers off the coast of Ecuador a little south of the equador. We are currently drawing up a map of our country and it will be ready over the next few days.
Apple Zer0 - We are tremendously grateful for you interest in combating this scar on the face of our once great nation. Any help you can give us in this fight would be of enormous assistance to us and our cause.
Do you still wish to partake in an embassy exchange?
Fifth Sun
18-06-2004, 05:15
Yes, if the following conditions are agreed to.
1) There will be NO foreign soldiers or armed personnel whatsoever on Fifth Sun soil.
2) The embassy would be subject to scrutiny at ALL TIMES by Fifth Sun officials, and all foreign personnel must cooperate.
3) Failure to adhere to these conditions will result in the ejection and possible incarceration of any and all foreign personnel, depending on the gravity of the violation, which will be determined solely by Fifth Sun officials.
In your case we might be able to lift the no armed personnel stipulation. As well as any other countries that prove themselves allies of our nation.
We find your precautions perfectly understandable. Our diplomat for the embassy in your nation will be arriving after a brief diplomatic meeting with Communist Mississippi. Your nation does not have any problem with a female diplomat, do they?
Fifth Sun
18-06-2004, 05:24
We have no problem with the gender of the diplomat. We will be establishing an embassy in your nation (with your approval) sometime over the next few (RL) days.
Araznatan

With your approval we would like to begin shipment of arms and military supplies to your nation as soon as possible. We will also be sending military advisors to advise your developing military and contractors to develop your nation and improve her infastructure etc.

In the cool pacific waters three silent shapes gilded towards Fifth Sun. Just metres above the bottom of the ocean floor and keeping their profiles reduced to any ships passive sonar picked up. The three subs settled near the shore closest to the Noviet enforced rebels and began to sit, all listening equipment to full, observing the passing freighters. Seeing what the signals were like and listening to harbor protocol they sat, not making a sound to the outside world.

An armada of Arazi ships sped towards the Fifth Sun capital. Six large freighters carrying cumulatively, 450 APCs, 200 urban combat vehicles, 150 light battle tanks, 70 heavy battle tanks, 200,000 various small arms, 300 contractors and 70 military advisors. The ships were escorted by nine Monk-class corvettes, two Alfa-II class attack submarines, one Araznatan-class boomer submarine with two manta-class fast attack mini-submarines attached and one command vessel.
"Sir" a corporal spoke "we are approximately 10 kilometers from the Fifth Sun harbor"
"Excellent" the Captain replied gazing from the bridge of the command vessel to the rising sun "I'll be in my office, make sure nothing blows up will ya?"

The captain looked about the bridge of his sub with a mild apprehension. He knew what needed to be done, he just hated the risk to life and limb. The worst part though was that he couldn’t even call back and ask brass, he was told by the NNAO liaison that communication with home on this mission needed to be cleared by him and he didn’t clear it. Passive sonar had picked up the noisy freighters inbound, their large steel screws churned up more than enough of the sea to get a clear fix on its escorts. It took some sweeping but they had isolated the sounds of nine corvettes, a capital ship and several underwater contacts which were unconfirmed in nature escorting six freighters that sat low in the water. If those freighters weren’t there we wouldn’t have even head the wake rubbing the sub’s hull. Damn lucky but it’d be nice to know how many are there. For all we know it could be the entire Araznatani underwater navy.
“Sir we’ve just released the last mine, they won’t rise until we give the radio signal.” The XO informed him breaking his train of thoughts.
“Good news, and the teams?”
“They’ve just reached the ship and will begin boarding now.”
“Allah gives wisdom and has mercy for these men.” The captain voiced a silent prayer of his faith, attracting an odd glance or two from his subordinates.
The waters were silent with only six quiet *blops* as the six Teflon hooks sailed from the dark waters to the port side of the docked Fifth sun destroyer. Three men to a rope they came silently, black as the water the emerged from scaling the side of the ship. There synthetic soles making no noise on the side of the hull they climbed skillfully, their boots providing unnatural traction. The first man up spotted the port side look out and clipped of a silent shot from his MP30. *click* The round was noiseless but the bolt still made a gentle, albeit muffled click.
The HUDs in all the men’s suits flashed Tango down. With a practiced poise and lethal skill they continued but breaking into 3 squads of six. One squad headed up towards the bow with the other headed stern, the final headed to the command deck. Squad Bravo upon reaching ¾’s up the ship’s stern signaled halt over the encrypted microwave. Sliding curved mirror out from his utility pouch the lead man peaked around the turn to the bow of the ship without exposing his profile.
“One man, back turned. We need a close take down or he’ll hit the water and make noise.”
The team moved forward silently guns pointed at the target. Tense yet professional they crept up on him. The lead man reached again, this time to his thigh to unsheathe the unreflective black metal blade. In one quick motion the target was bleeding out his voice box clutching both a throat and femoral artery wound. Held like a baby in his mother’s arms the victim looked up at the black face plate of his armored attacker only to see, what looked like to him, an emotionless automaton with it’s visor silhouetting a cold shadow on his face. Squad Sierra attempted to do the same thing on the stern. The approach went smooth, until the lookout stretched and caught the sight of the squad in his peripheral vision. He made a move, to do what no one will ever know because the second he moved an inch *click* *click* *click* a silent three round burst caught his upper torso and head. With a swing that could’ve been described as rag doll comical the lookout sailed over the rail of the ship and splashed into the waters below. With the events having been communicated over the microwave channel the entire team held their breathes to listen for a sign that they’d been caught. They sat and waited,….
Apparently with the noise of the dock operations the sound of a solitary splash had been drowned out. With a sigh of relief squad Charlie breached the command centre. The entry and deliver was flawless. With no commando showing more than 1/8th profile to a target none of the enemies got off a shot. However unbeknownst to Squad Charlie one of the Tangos in the CnC had pressed the silent alarm which signaled to the people bellow that there was a security breach. Squads Bravo and Sierra entered the lower section via the fore and aft bulk head entries. They advanced into the narrow hallway finding no resistance. Their objective was simple, secure the engine room. Both teams made their way to the engine room door. With a squad on either side of the engine room now blocking the only entrances/exits what could go wrong. Carelessly the lead man in Sierra squad swung open the engine room door, only to be greeted by a hail of AK-103 fire. The body armor did a valiant job but that much rifle fire at that close a distance is never a healthy thing. The HUDs of the team read that sergeant. Jefferies was flat lined with multiple internal organ failures.
“Flash then smoke grenades people we want that engine intact.” The team leader yelled over the microwaves. The reaction of the team was lightening quick, dazzling flashed followed by the distinctive hiss of pressure release could be heard as smoke grenade after smoke grenade was lobbed into the engine room. The team went in hard. Switching to therm ops the smoke came in filtered as a mild haze, a back drop for large red humanoid shaped blotches of heat. The tangos began firing wildly at where they thought the door was while the commandos took precise shots centre mass.
When the smoke cleared all tangos were down with five dead commandos in the engine room. Standing about their fallen comrades the squad said their last goodbyes, before the began to wire them to C4 and other plastiques. After some other bits of creative engineering the destroyer was ready.
Meanwhile in orbit an odd looking satellite glided over Fifth Sun. Hundreds of kilometres away from a less impressive satellite it launched a piece of itself toward it. The older satellite and the dislodged piece exploded while moments later the odd looking satellite, which loaded quite normal now without it’s missing projectile, settled into it’s exact position. It triangulated something, it’s corrective thrusters fired and there it sat, almost smug that it had cleared its own way.

OOC: Impressive, I'll allow it. Question though, if the men were worried so much about being discovered by the sound of a body hitting the water, wouldn't they be worried about being discovered by the exponentially greater noise of small arms fire from my men in the destroyer? thats about it, expect the conclusion to my last big post tomorrow...

OOC: this is continued from a previous post
Cleric Sauniere felt a fragment of his seething hatred depart him as he decapitated the communications officer, a relieved sigh escaping from his lips as the body fell to its knees. The ravenous fury within him would never leave in entirety until he knew every resister had met their fate. He thought of the promises Vyrose had made to his people, a strong government, unprecedented peace and prosperity, protection from the meddling outsiders, and divine ascension through The Chosen. Vyrose would bring about a new age for Fifth Sun, he just needed the full support and cooperation of his countrymen for his dreams to be realized, all resistance must be exterminated. Although Vyrose has yet to articulate these plans are to the populace, somehow he felt that whatever it was, it was righteous and absolute. Ever since his ‘awakening’ at the retreat of piety in the penitentiary at Zyrnia 7 when Vyrose first took power, he had felt a constant, unwavering reverence for his new masters. Before he had been a common criminal, addicted to drugs, stealing loaves of bread and living in abandoned warehouses, if not for Vyrose he would surely be dead, or living in a perpetual state of unenlightened spiritual bondage, a brute, nothing more. Things were much different for Sauniere, now a rising star in The Chosen he proved himself a most loyal and pious servant in the extermination of the heretics that were entrenched to the East and North of the capital. In doing so he earned the respect of the upper echelon of The Chosen and was promoted to Cleric, shortly afterwards a contingent of soldiers was put under his command to hunt and exterminate the rest of the insurgency. Sauniere was told that once his task was completed, he was too deliver the head of General Zarkadov to Vyrose himself, who would personally bless him in a clandestine ritual deep beneath the capital, an honor most only fantasized of. His mind now focused to the task at hand, eleven of the twelve rebel camps in the jungle had now been eradicated. One more remained, the command encampment where Sauniere presumed Zarkadov would make his last stand, A pathetic attempt to attain martyrdom he thought. Five groups of soldiers now waited less than half a mile from the camp hidden, encircling it, a serpent poised to strike its constricted prey at any instant. At his orders, these holiest of warriors would descend on the camp, slaughtering all life within it boundaries, save for the General, whom he would administer the righteous punishment to personally. Zarkadov was notorious in the war of independence for his daring escapes, but now the aged and tired General would have nowhere to run. The young Cleric looked to his assistant and gave the order to strike…
===============================================================
“Sir, the plan must be executed now” a Lieutenant spoke to the General, a hint of desperation in his voice, “The other camps have been destroyed, I fear we don’t have much time until they arrive”.
Zarkadov nodded to his Lieutenant and gave the order to initiate the preparations, he walked over to an especially soiled tent whose layers of mud allowed it to stick out anywhere within the camp. Zarkadov negotiated past the shovels strewn about near the tent and entered. Most of his men waited near this tent, only a small amount would stay behind to fight the Cultists, the General was most awed by their bravery. Upon his entrance two soldiers saluted the General and went about moving a cot in the corner of the tent and folding over a tarp that covered what was the single most important device to the resistance. The General gazed at what had been revealed underneath the tarp, a smile uncharacteristically crept across his face, he unsheathed his flashlight, banging it against him palm several times before a weak beam of light shot out against the walls of the tent. Zarkadov stepped towards the corner....
===============================================================
Sauniere’s men descended on the encampment in furious and swift assault. A few minutes later, with relative ease its occupants fell to his superior forces, aside from the minimal resistance in the camp, it was utterly abandoned, no sign of Zarkadov or any high-ranking insurgents. Sauniere paced in muted panic in the camp, looking to his assistant he spoke quickly.
“Comb the jungle, they cannot be permitted to escape, this is an outrage!”
“There’s no way they fled through the jungle” a broad-shouldered Sergeant proclaimed stepping forward “My men have formed a perimeter around the camp, its highly unlikely so many men could have slipped by unnoticed…”
Before the Sergeant finished his sentence a young Corporal approached his superiors, “Sir, we’ve discovered their method of escape”
Sauniere glanced over to where he saw the Corporal arrive from, an exceptionally sullied tent surrounded by numerous shovels in various states of filth. Instantly Sauniere knew the General’s cunning scheme, the anger writhed within him.
===============================================================
Two miles to the Southwest Zarkadov climbed out of the tunnel with smug contentment. The tunnel had been constructed back during the war of independence, it was still in relative good shape, although his men needed to repair it some, to ensure they wouldn’t all be buried alive during their daring escape, an irony only Vyrose would value. He was now on the outskirts of the jungle, safely away from the Cult forces. Nova Hope forces had airlifted most of the supplies and vehicles out of the camp several days ago, Noviet Special Forces waited for the General and his entourage alongside the numerous hummers and ATVs they had generously provided to his cause. The plan now was to ride to the Vernyla mountain range several hundred miles away where the Cult could not use their superior numbers to advantage. They would have to trek along the coast Westward then shoot North to reach their destination, it was too risky flying them there, one surface-to-air missile could wipe out the entire resistance, leaving his homeland in permanent despair and repression. Zarkadov knew that this stunt would buy him some much needed time, but something extreme would needed to be carried out soon, the insurgency was losing faith and numbers, if he did not do something soon he feared his forces would dwindle into insignificance.

The cult is improving all aspects of Fifth Sun but in its current state is still relatively weak against external forces (especially nations of your caliber) on it's own, although I am expecting there will be a period of rapid growth when/if Araznatan (hope you're still there buddy) devlops the infastructure and modernizes the industry. The short answer to your question would be betwixt the two you mentioned, but closer to the first. I would suggest approaching it how you would the first, but on a slightly larger scale. The teams had the destroyer ready and were bringing the electronics online, nothing that would draw outside attention. Manually loading the guns the ships was ready for a cold start should it needed to be done. The leader of the assault had ordered that the bodies of the men be coated with gas, their suit’s self destruct mechanisms activated, Noviet technology couldn’t be allowed to fall into enemy hands.
Taking positions in the bridge the team kept low profiles using their light amplification filters they watched the workers on the dock preparing for the incoming goods. Coming onto the airwaves the captain spoke to his team.

OOC: Cool
IC:
The team watched the freighters unload, they’d worked efficiently and now the dock master was giving them the receipts of their delivery. The freighters began their slow reverse tug off the docks, and before they had an opportunity to get pointed to sea the Noviets acted. The destroyer started up its engines and began to maneuver between the freighters and the dock.
The captain of the sub smiled, watching the destroyer come about on passive sonar. Looking over to his XO he spoke quietly,
“Prepare the message to the Araznatani fleet. Make sure it looks like the message is coming from Fifth Sun.” The XO nodded his affirmation and began to speak with the comms officer. The sub’s communication array piqued and burst instructions into orbit. Picked up by a Noviet satellite, those in the homeland knew what to do. Within a second of the message hitting the ground in Nova Hope the satellite in orbit, impersonating the Fifth Sun communications satellite, sprung to life broadcasting to both the fleet in question and the Araznatani homeland.
Vyrose’s voice could be heard in a laugh. Settling he begins to speak,
“We thank you for your supplies great nation, and we appreciate the sacrifices we will take from you for our great cause. Surrender your fleet is forfeit!”
At the same time the government, under Vyrose, were getting a message that looks to be from Araznatan.
Vyrose, the Imperium has reconsidered. Your tin pot dictatorship is an offense to us and we will relieve you of the supplies we delivered, don’t speak of it again.
Again within seconds of these messages the Fifth Sun destroyer, secretly controlled by the Noviet team, opened fire on the unsuspecting freighters. With the Araznatani ships at a lowered alert, being in friendly port and all, the destroyer managed to lease several salvos from its main weapons. The sub underneath took advantage of the confusion to torpedo the freighters, and activate the minefield they’d taken time to lay in the harbor.
OOC: Sorry for the slow responses all. I’m leaving this to Araznatan to do with as he will and I will RP from there, though I can guess what is going to happen.

"Outrageous!" an exasperated voice bellowed through the halls of the Arazi Grand Council echoing against the oak walls. “We must act swiftly and unmercifully! This Zealot must be wiped from the Earth!” continued Councilman Bjelich, a scornful and tired old-world conservative, pounding his decrepit fist on the oak desk while addressing the Grand Council. “THIS is why I warned against this breed of international philanthropy! We must not be made fools of!”
“Before the esteemed Councilman becomes winded I would like to suggest something less… sweeping” A snicker could be heard throughout the council chambers. The Council’s attention now directed towards the new speaker, Michael Bertrand, a tall silver-haired man in his mid-forties gesturing to his audience with a pair of wire rim reading glasses. “From my observations, the international community does not take kindly to such severe military actions… and seems unable to keep to themselves when matters are of no concern to them”. The Council seemed to nod in homogeneous accord, Bjelich took his seat, muttering what can only be assumed as slanderous and inaudible insults. “Of course this crime cannot go unpunished, but we know very little of the situation… This, Vyrose, as he is called is a most paranoid individual, and for good reason, he is combating aggressors both internally and externally. Perhaps our delivery coincided with a rebel offensive? Or rebel activity was reported near the harbor? Or perhaps something else? Any number of things could have happened… Vyrose does not seem foolish enough to set in motion these kinds of events” Bertrand took a drink of water before continuing “There is no sense in marching off to war when it otherwise can be avoided…Therefore, I suggest attempting to open a line of communication with Vyrose, and if indeed his intentions were illicit, he will be dealt with accordingly, and if this is all some sort of misunderstanding, perhaps we can arrange a development contract slightly more, beneficial to our private sector” The Council collectively grinned, Bertrand knew what he was doing.

OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE FROM ARAZI GRAND COUNCIL TO FIFTH SUN RULING BODY
At this time we harbor no intentions of military action against your nation, although we will act swiftly and unmercifully if provoked. The Grand Council demands an explanation of the events that took place in your harbor. Failure on your part to provide an expedient and appropriate explanation will result in military action on behalf of The Imperium.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Imperial Directive #3675A was passed by The Arazi Grand Council 24-3 authorizing the use of military force against Fifth Sun if lack of justification for the incident in the harbor was provided. Across Araznatan the military was put on high alert. Military strategists were drawing up their plans, on the chance that diplomacy failed, which in times like these, was likely.
Back in Nova Hope proper the message was intercepted by ground control, and refused passage on the carrier band that they now had control over.
At this time we harbor no intentions of military action against your nation, although we will act swiftly and unmercifully if provoked. The Grand Council demands an explanation of the events that took place in your harbor, and failure on your part to provide an expedient and appropriate explanation will result in military action on behalf of The Imperium.
Imperial Directive #3675A was passed by The Arazi Grand Council 24-3 authorizing the use of military force against Fifth Sun if lack of justification for the incident in the harbor was provided. Across Araznatan the military was put on high alert, and military strategists were drawing up their plans, on the chance that diplomacy failed, which in these times, was likely.
After a quick workup with the intelligence people the response to the message that was never received was worked up. The response read;
The events in the harbor were beyond my control. This is why the supplies are needed to combat the rebel menace, more and more of my officials are rejecting their pious teachings, they are straying from the paths I have laid out for them and they act in ravenous lunatic ways. Perhaps the transfer should wait until I can guarantee the safety of the shipment. My most humble apologies, perhaps we can repay you for the damage with a generous repayment schedule. Please remember that we are a humble nation and our funds are mostly spent on following the religious teachings laid out before us.
But the more pressing issue is the rebel ship still in the harbor, perhaps you could sink it to both punish the heretics and show your strength to other would be opposers.
The President looked at the faux response. He was surprised at the speed in which the Arazi had responded, especially with a hostile ship still firing on them. He wondered if his response would be so tempered should the roles have been reversed.
“Send it, and tell the destroyer to start firing on the Arazi fleet, maybe we can limit their projection power in the area. Keep the sub silent, we can’t be found out now.”
Back in the harbor in question;
The teams were recalibrating the guns to fire on the escorts of the freighters. Waiting for the inevitable retaliation they attempted to disable the Arazi corvettes, hoping to destroy one if they were lucky. The captain came on the teams comms system barking orders.
“Bring the main turrets to bear on the corvette at one seven three degrees, prepare the torpedo, make it look remotely possible we sunk the freighters our self, FIRE.” The cannons on the destroyer cracked loudly, the muzzle flashes illuminating blinding the dock workers, or at least the ones who had not yet fled in terror.
“Prep the explosives and prepare to bank starboard, we want to take out the docks when they counter attack.”
OOC: Okay I assume your ships will defend themselves now, if not I will edit and clip the following IC. As for your loses since this isn’t a fight between you and I be generous to yourself. Just say I damaged one mildly.
IC:
The corvettes response was immediate, and carried a tone the lone destroyer couldn’t muster. With all turrets loosing a salvo at the destroyer it was any wonder that it didn’t simply come apart right there. Onboard the teams took a beating as they were thrown about the cabin. Activating the engines they listed the ship starboard and into the docks. The team leapt from the side of the still moving ship onto the crumbling docks. Running quickly the sprinted towards shore, shooting the unarmed dock workers as they went.
“Like fish in a barrel sir.” One man commented to the squad leader. Once the team made it to shore the squad leader activated the explosives around the ships ammo and fuel centres. The, comparatively, small mushroom reached towards the skies with a fiery clutching heave it threw the heated shards of metal skywards. As the evidence of their deed sprinkled and sparked into the ocean one shattered piece at a time the team entered a sewer culvert and disappeared from the scene.
At the airport of the Capital the fifty ambassadors from Nova Hope were just clearing the final check at security. Having nothing past the typical communications devices, no weapons and the clothes they carried nothing had really caught security’s eye. The most suspicious things they had were a generator, batteries, and armed forces rations. When confronted about these things they all maintained that they were emergency preparations in case the embassy lost services for what ever reason.
OOC: The communications devices are of some interest but I’ll let you deicide how in depth your going to go with them fifth sun.
“Something strange is going on in Fifth Sun” he spoke calmly “Vyrose may not have as much control of over his nation as previously assumed”
Cornelius Stephenson, Director of the AIC (Arazi Intelligence Consortium) addressed the Grand Council after he had finished reviewing Vyrose’s response with them.
“Elaborate” voiced a Councilman, interested.
“Well, lets have a look at the most recent communication” Stephenson replied clicking the remote to activate the large LCD monitor that rose out of the floor to greet the Council. With another click the text appeared instantly on the massive screen.
Perhaps the transfer should wait until I can guarantee the safety of the shipment. My most humble apologies, perhaps we can repay you for the damage with a generous repayment schedule. Please remember that we are a humble nation and our funds are mostly spent on following the religious teachings laid out before us.
But the more pressing issue is the rebel ship still in the harbor, perhaps you could sink it to both punish the heretics and show your strength to other would be opposers.
“Aside from the last third of the message” Began Stephenson, “Everything appears to be typical of Fifth Sun communications. However, our analysts have suspicions as to the wording of the last third. In the last third Vyrose seems to stray off topic, seemingly belittling his nation, and flattering ours. It is also suspicious because this is the first message from Vyrose himself, so far we’ve never had a personal message from him, all have been in the third person”
“Why are you wasting our time with this?!” boomed councilman Bjelich in typical fashion, “I don’t see anything suspicious, just the nitpickings of an over-funded intelligence department!”
“I concur councilman” replied Stephenson “Aside from the funding comment of course. You see, if it weren’t for the message we received a few minutes after the attack, there wouldn’t be so many red flags, if any. Let’s play the audio message we received just minutes after the attack” Another click of Stephenson’s remote could be heard, a sinister chuckle began to fill the room.
“We thank you for your supplies great nation, and we appreciate the sacrifices we will take from you for our great cause. Surrender your fleet is forfeit!”
“In the first message, Vyrose appears to have authorized the attack, but in the second he maintains the attack “was beyond my control”. This contradiction means one of these messages is false, both seem suspicious but we are unsure as to which. Our analysts seem to be at odds as to the authenticity of the audio tape, some argue its not his voice on the tape, others claim it is. If either of the messages are fake, we have stumbled upon something most peculiar… the insurgents certainly do not possess the capability to hijack Vyrose’s communications and carry out these exploits. Therefore we can only assume that if indeed these messages, or one of them, are in fact counterfeit, Fifth Sun’s communications have been compromised… and by a foreign entity in coordination with the insurgents. Admittedly, I’ll be the first to tell you that there is more than a generous amount of speculation in these conclusions, and hard evidence for it is lackluster, but all of our analysts, and indeed a vast majority of the AIC agrees that there is something askew about the situation, something… not quite right. The pieces have yet to fall into place, and this theory, as of this instant is for the most part unsubstantiated, but it is the opinion of the AIC and myself, that these ideas have merit, and cannot be ignored”
There was silence. Many of the council rolled their eyes after the AIC Director had finished speaking, had would have much to decide on.
OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION FROM ARAZI GRAND COUNCIL TO FIFTH SUN GOVERNING BODY
We accept your apologies, our nation has had a history of insurgencies and can identify with your frustrations. While the rebel ploy did no serious damage to our vessels (only one corvette sustained medium damage) and there was no loss of life, we would like to, with your approval, further aid you in crushing this insurgency by stationing a portion of our Naval forces near your great nation. These vessels would only serve as a means of protection for our transports and possibly, with your permission, to root out any rebel naval activity within proximity of your harbor. We would also like to begin airlifting supplies into your great nation, in order to keep up with what appears to be increased rebel activity.
ooc: sorry if my intel guys are jumping to conclusions rather quickly, I like the dynamic you’ve set up with the communications and such, keep in mind as of yet the council doesn’t think much (if anything) of the theory and has little reason to. But if you want some things can be changed.
OOC: LOL no I love it. If anything it’s a good reminder of the tight rope I put myself on. Keep me on my toes and what. This will turn into quite the three ring circus should your intel guys decide field ops are warranted.
And don’t you hate it when your bopped on but don’t know it ICly so you are forced to repeat the mistakes because you can’t let ooc knowledge taint your RP.
The President looked at the response. He exhaled raggedly. Shaking his head he spoke to the man in his office.
“We’re going to have to give something up on this one aren’t we?”
“Yes sir. We think we can keep the Arazi fleets away from the area but there’s no good reason to refuse the airlift.”
“Damn. What are our options.”
“Well sir right now the company is recommending that we wait for the Fifth Sun response, we also need to draft a message to them so we can try to get the airlift to get a go ahead.” The President raised an eyebrow at that.
“Why, the whole point of this was to make sure they weren’t supplied. Hell we could supply them ourselves if that’s the way your leaning.”
“No sir. The Arazi are not a stupid people and if we aren’t careful they might send some people of their own in, and that would expose what we have done.” The President looked startled at that statement.
“We’re not able to be fingered are we?”
“No sir. Even if we scrub now we can erase our tracks. What the company is recommending is that we use the resistance to stage a raid on the airfield once the plane is down. We can make it look like Vyrose has a mole and hopefully the Arazi will see him as the losing side and will decide that he shouldn’t be backed.”
“And if they don’t and want to supply him again?”
“Well sir, we need to start pushing the rebellion faster. The company is prepared to create an independent resistance in the country. We have the images captured from our team on the ground, we should be able to make a platoon of agents look like local guerrillas.” The President stoked his chin at that one. Shaking his head he spoke slowly.
”I want that option in reserve, we will be using it but not yet. Prepare the Arazi messages to Vyrose, perhaps we will have better luck on that end of it.” The man turned from the president to make his way off to work, the President spoke to his back.
“Theodore, perhaps from now on a softer touch is in order, maybe next time we can let the messages go through and let them draw their own conclusions.”
After some work the Fifth Sun officials received the following.
The distant yet violent roar of the explosion had roused Vyrose from his meditative state. Within half an hour the elders were before him, attempting to explain the events to their master.
“We know almost nothing sire” one spoke, hurriedly “Several eyewitnesses claim that one of our destroyers opened fire on the Arazi fleet, and others claim that the Arazi ships struck first. Most of the dock is now destroyed, as well as the destroyer.”
“Who gave the order to attack the fleet?” inquired Vyrose, visibly irate.
“No one,” replied the elder “the destroyer wouldn’t respond to our commands, the dock had ordered it several times to halt… and nothing. Even more suspicious, the Arazi ships are still in the harbor, idle”
“We also received two communiqués from the Arazi, both are quite puzzling, they seem to contradict each other” uttered another elder, handing Vyrose a sheet of paper. “We received this message just minutes after the incident.
Vyrose, the Imperium has reconsidered. Your tin pot dictatorship is an offense to us and we will relieve you of the supplies we delivered, don’t speak of it again.
Vyrose quickly read the message and took the second sheet of paper.
“We received this about ten minutes ago”
OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION FROM ARAZI GRAND COUNCIL TO FIFTH SUN GOVERNING BODY
The Imperial government demands to know why your destroyer has opened fire on the supplies we have so generously offered to your nation. We will not come in friendship only to have our hand slapped away by an ingrate.
“They seem to contradict each other, their meaning is unclear” spoke the third elder, who had remained silent up to this time “Perhaps there was a communications failure with the Arazi high command, the captain could have jumped the gun so to speak… or one of the messages is forged, though that seems unlikely”
Vyrose exhaled in calm ferocity, pausing a moment his eyes wandered away from the elders and through the window onto the city streets… “Keep a watchful eye on all Arazi personnel, make sure none leave the country”
“And what of our reply?” questioned one of the men.
Vyrose stroked his chin, and began to speak.
Subject: The Harbor
We wish no harm on your nation. There is much confusion as to the happenings in the harbor. We believe a disturbed and misguided crew of a destroyer opened fire on your fleet. Much of our nation is on-edge due to terrorist insurgents, and thus paranoia has become an epidemic amongst our armed forces. Rebel infiltration is another possibility, and we are investigating the matter further. We are very appreciative of your support in this situation and seek only the most peaceful relationship between our respective nations.
=====================================================
Texas and Colorado - We are willing to allow the construction of an embassy in our capital if the following conditions are agreed to:
1) There will be NO foreign soldiers or armed personnel whatsoever on Fifth Sun soil.
2) The embassy would be subject to scrutiny at ALL TIMES by Fifth Sun officials, and all foreign personnel must cooperate.
3) Failure to adhere to these conditions will result in the ejection and possible incarceration of any and all foreign personnel, depending on the gravity of the violation, which will be determined solely by Fifth Sun officials
The President looked at the intercepted Fifth Sun response and smiled.
“This is better than we could’ve hoped then. If Vyrose still wants support from the Arazi then we can set up the airfield exchange. What has the company whipped up for me this time?” The same man who had been in his office at every instance smiled, he continued from behind his darkened shades.
“Well sir we’ve come up with a response that might make it easy enough for us to bow out like you wanted.”
“Oh how is that?”
“There are very inconsistencies between the two messages, we can let it pass unedited.”
“The Arazi message to Fifth Sun you mean?”
“Yessir.”
“Do it.”
Meanwhile the commandoes supporting the rebel forces had received new orders. Colonel Comstock now walked towards the general to make preparations.
“General Sir.”
“Yes?”
“I’ve got some intel I’d like to share with you.” At that the Colonel went in detail to explain the situation of the incoming Arazi airlift, but excluded how the information was gained.
“This is the second attempt to supply the government and we need to stop it. The supplies will be invaluable to the resistance, especially if they include some armor. We could use it. Now the government knows our last know location but not this one, do you think you could prepare to hit the most likely airfield? We’ll be able to confirm at a later date.”
Back in Fifth Sun City the sub still sat silently in the harbor. Without the engines running and the pressed vacuum layering in the sub it made no noise and gave no sonar profile to speak of. Listening for comms traffic it waited and watched the minefield for any activity. The captain paced the bridge in a halted stride, having to constantly maneuver around crewmen as they gathered more and more info on the idling Arazi and the shore of Fifth Sun. Training their parabolic underwater microphones on the Arazi ships they listened to the crew, how they spoke, their protocol and more importantly they were working hard to pluck what information they could from the ship to ship communication. Turning to his XO the captain queried about their status.
“Well sir we haven’t gained anything extremely useful military wise but we’ve secured some clearance codes.”
“Clearance codes?”
“Yessir. The corvettes transferred some material that was damaged between themselves. Nothing major but we can fake a ration supply transfer code now if it was needed.” The captain raised his eyebrow at that one.
“I know sir, its not what you were hoping for but as expected they use encrypted codes for firing and the like. Unless we provoke another engagement or so we won’t be able to crack any of them.” Shaking his head the Captain finally spoke.
“That’s fine, carry one though. The information garnered from listening to the crew might provide something on the slim chance. Have we heard from our boys?”
“No sir they’re maintaining silence. Until we have a position to triangulate on any communications we make would have to be broadband and they’d splash the city, it be just as bad a cell phone call and you know how traceable they are.” The Captain nodded at this.
“Then we wait and listen.”
The industrial sewers of the dockyard had quickly opened up into a complex cavern. Some ancient and others more recent the underground tunnels where a massive complex of tombs, ritual sites, alters, waste disposal, power transfers and communications lines. The team walked quickly but poised into the darkness that was illuminated by their suit’s on board sonar/IR/light amp systems. Deeper into the catacombs they stopped to take stock of their options. Counting their rations, ammo and batteries (which are very important to someone wearing a servo enhanced suit) they crouched in the tunnel to discuss their options. After a bit of conversation they put a microwave relay into the tunnel, tapping the local power lines for its operation they also tapped the communication line to be able to listen to Sunian chatter. Spreading out in all directions their suits kept in contact with each other by the relay. Walking in a typical search pattern the HUDs in their suit continuously updated each other as they plotted out a map of the tunnels.
“By the goddess this thing is huge.”
“Peng, separation of church and state much?”
“Sorry sir.”
“No worries, but it is pretty god damn huge.” The team chuckled at that and continued mapping.
The embassy team had made it through airport security without any problems and where now setting up in the building that was to be their new work/home. With the men all accounted for they began to sweep the building for bugs, removing any they might find.
“There is a way we can possibly assure ourselves free from international meddlers forever…” the hooded man articulated to Vyrose, his face shrouded in the shadows of his master’s chambers “But there are many nations that take it upon themselves to interfere in the internal matters of others…”
Within the hour a telegram was sent to the Arazi Grand Council.
Your patience and understanding in this delicate and convoluted matter is appreciated immensely. The insurgent plague is evolving into a greater threat each passing day, it cannot be allowed to exist any longer. With this in mind we shall grant your requests to station a portion of your naval forces near our harbors to root out the insurgent vermin, we will also grant you permission to begin airlifting supplies into Fifth Sun. After careful investigation into the incident at the harbor we have sufficient reason to believe that larger forces are at work within Fifth Sun. The audacity of international meddlers is boundless, and in order to exterminate the rebellion we must free ourselves from their loathsome intrusions forevermore. With this in mind we would like to ask of your assistance in the development of a nuclear weapons program. Surely the threat of complete annihilation shall keep the prying eyes and fingers of these cowards at bay permanently, and grant us the respect we deserve in the international community.
“Mister President, a word.”
The advisors all looked up. They were debating a very important budgetary issue, they always were. It takes a lot to move a country from a far right perspective to just left of centre, the fact that more than half the budget now went into the Department of Health and Wellness was a testament to that. More to the point it was a very hot issue right now, despite that the man who was asking for attention was more important. It didn’t matter if they were talking about nuclear missiles seconds from Noviet shores, they knew the drill. Filling out quietly a few of the more afluencial politicians greeted the man in the dark suit as they left, the others merely bowed their heads and pronounced his title.
“Theodore.”
“Theo.”
“Mr. Wilsey.”
“Sir.”
“Eôsphoros.”
Once the last had left the President looked up,
“We’re alone.” The Eôsphoros moved from the doorway to his President’s side to pass him a bound leather pouch. Without letting the President read he began to speak.
“Vyrose has sent the response to the Arazi.”
“And?”
“It’s a bit of a doozy, I’ve already got my teams working on the response.
“Without my consent?”
“You’ll see.” The President began to read the documents as the man in the dark suit stood impassively waiting for him to finish. Finishing up the President glanced up to the man coolly, knowing he was being judged from here on in.
“You want to take this away from me now.” The President said, a statement more than a question it brought no surprises.
“Not yet. I am going to free my arms a bit now.”
“How so?”
“I’m making Operation Religious Freedom a priority now. I’m also altering the objectives, you’re still welcome to input.”
“What’s our new goal?”
“Long term its still the same but I’m going to maneuver this into a position where its out in the open.” The President held his tongue at that. Out in the open had a different context then normal here, though neither had illusions of how it was being used. The President nodded knowing that he needed to start writing a speech soon about why they were declaring war on Fifth Sun.
“Nuclear weapons?!” Trumpeted councilman Bjelich animatedly “This despot can’t be allowed this power! He’s a madman!”
“Vyrose isn’t irrational, his security concerns are perfectly understandable” Councilman Bertrand interrupted coolly “We have no reason to believe he’ll immediately commit nuclear genocide when he gains possession of these weapons”
“Drivel!” Bjelich fired back “Absolute drivel!”
“Shall we call a vote?” Bertrand smirked, winking at his incensed opponent.
Eleven minutes later a reply was sent:
The Eôsphoros walked down the hall slowly, contemplating his next move. He was a thoughtful man, a man of purpose who hated to make a rushed decision. The Eôsphoros worked on his own time, even if it was something as simple as stopping to take a drink of coffee before he answered, his mind always running probable outcomes. Coming to a double swing door in the spartan white hall he placed his ever present P-HUDD on his face, making him look eerie wearing dark glasses inside.
Surveying the room his operators were lax and lounging at their stations. The sign of an over bloated budget, I think these people need more work. Clearing his throat he brought his personal think tank to heel.
“I have some work for you.”
“Yes sir, anything.” The Eôsphoros smiled at that, Eager, I could be asking him for the impossible and he’ll bring me a doable option that looks, tastes and feels like the impossible.
“The Arazi have just offered full assistance to Vyrose and I want to be prepared for it.”
“What did you have in mind sir?”
“You’ll see the operation file has been updated with new theatre resources, I want you to take what you need and do this for me. I want to be able to replace an Arazi flight of supplies with one of our own, I want Agents prepped and ready, you have full access to all satellite imagery to get the appearance of the Arazi plane.” The man paused for a moment, hesitant at first.
“Sir how long will we be holding that message in limbo, to give us prep time.”
“Six hours, we’ll then see what we can’t do about locking down a flight time.” With a gulp the man swallowed, he knew that it wasn’t a lot of time. He opened his mouth to protest, and then thinking better swallowed his objections. The Eôsphoros nodded and then went on his way to transmit the un-doctored message.
We shall step-up military aid immediately, expect supplies to be delivered to every major city within the week. We shall also assist you in your aspirations of attaining nuclear armaments. We shall begin sending scientists and all the necessary equipment when they become available. We hope these new provisions will prove useful in your struggle against the rebellion. Meanwhile the choppy water in the pacific added to the subs gliding into position (OOC: Between Araznatan and Fifth Sun with some scattering, Araznatan I need to know your approx location in the world.) Some twenty subs in all moved in. The workhorse of Noviet submersibles the Spirit was the Granzian improvement to the Seawolf. Purchased some years ago via Hybalt these ships now flexed the military muscle of Nova Hope in the high seas. Once in position the submarines cut engines and leased a buoyant microscopic line to the surface. Achieving a direct satellite uplink they sat deep beneath the oceans surface awaiting further instructions.
--------------------
Setting up the embassy was hard work. The communications equipment was finally installed and activated. With the risk of foreign capture so high the entire embassy was wired with Aluminum Sulfide charges. Too weak of an explosive to be bothered with in security the chemical would do little more than destroy the circuits and fibre optic connections. Setting up the mainframe was an incredibly expensive endeavor, not using a single piece of magnetic storage this mainframe had two main purposes. One, to immediately dump all its information offsite via satlink, two was to then purge its memory beyond recovery with an electrostatic charge. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this embassy was the one misplaced wire. It ran from an upper floor to complicate the finding of it. Trailing through several junction boxes the wire finally made its way to the ground floor where, imbedded in the wall, it came into the basement. There a drill was used to put a wire down the few feet through cement into the catacombs below,…
--------
“We’ve got uplink.” The tension in the air was felt leaving. The team had been down in the catacombs for some time and was beginning to wonder whether or not they’d make it.
“Any word on when we’ll get supplies?”
“Food, real food, not this dehydrated shit.”
“Ammo, weapons, all of it.”
“Shut up.” The colonel raised her hand silencing the radio chatter. The team was on edge, having mapped out kilometers upon kilometers of tunnels. Looking over her orders she sighed, knowing that it’d be a long time coming before she managed to get out of her damn armour.
OOC: The hole to the catacombs is about 25mm wide so don’t worry about excavation or something. It’s a simple direct link to allow the team outside access. I realize some of this is of poor quality but I’m tired and don’t want to hold up the thread.
Two hours before dawn. From her ascended vantage point she could see most of the vast cityscape of the capital sprawling across the topography. From the soaring Plexiglas towers shimmering in the pale glow of the moon of the business district to he west, to the mysterious prehistoric stone edifices lining the hills to the east, now used by the cult as staging grounds for various clandestine ceremonies. The night patrols snaked through the streets, the light of their torches kept most of the citizenry out of the open at these hours. Like Cockroaches she thought to herself. She was one of a few elite cultists dubbed The Sleepless, assigned the task of watching over the city as it slumbered. They were scattered across the city, hidden in the dark alleys and cracking viaducts that twisted throughout the immense metropolis. From the rooftop she used her night vision monocular equipped with infrared attachments and various filters to scan the avenues under her jurisdiction. Sector fourteen was generally quiet, save for the occasional straying miscreant in search of contraband or defacing cult posters. She clicked the night vision on and spotted something three blocks south, her monocular focusing in on two blurry figures huddling beside a tree thirteen meters north of an intersection. She leaned against an air duct to her left and focused her parabolic mic towards the forms.
“Hurry, I hear the patrols, they’re getting closer”
Bingo. That was all she needed to hear. With her free hand she withdrew from her bandolier a small laser pointer and pointing it towards the criminals clicked it once. Three quarters of a second later the small HUD on her forearm lit up with the necessary information to send back to tower four. Sheathing the laser she punched her finger on the screen three times and it clicked off. Her earpiece informed her of the average response time for sector fourteen, one minute twenty-six seconds. Ninety-three seconds later she could hear the screeching tires of the unmarked nocturnal enforcement vehicles as they sped down the avenues towards the offenders. The men looked around in panic, but did not run, they knew what awaited them. Inescapable. She could the heartbeats rapidly pounding against their chests as their breath grew ever more irregular as the vehicles grew nearer. Twelve seconds later two black sedans and one black van cornered the two men against the wall. The two sedans swooping in from both sides as the van backed up between them. Effectively sealing any fruitless hope of escape. The front doors of the sedan opened in unison as the occupants rushed out of their seats kneeling behind the doors, shielded aiming their pistols towards the perpetrators. The rear doors of the van swung open as two crouching Special Forces personnel wielding submachine guns jumped out and paced several feet towards the malefactors before sidestepping out of the way and kneeling, clearing the way for two very official looking men to exit the van. Approaching the reprobates two the Clerics withdrew their electro-batons and pushing the men against the wall swung at their knees several times. The criminals took their beating silently as they slumped against the wall and onto the sidewalk. After twenty seconds or so the offenders were handcuffed and dragged into the back of the van. The vehicles sped off westward towards the Temple of Law and Order, where they would be questioned and most likely sacrificed the following night in one of stone circles on the east hills. She smiled to herself, a ten point bust, and only two-thousand seven hundred and fifteen points till a personal blessing by Vyrose himself.
The team in the sewers was busy. Setting up micro lens cameras for discrete surveillance of the street they’d not left the sewers for quite some time. Playing it safe Colonel Wang hadn’t let any of her men even show profile to the street, she knew that when the embassy started to do dead drop of supplies their risk factor would increase exponentially, hence the observation of the street. It’d already proved fruitful with a video capture of government abduction. What concerned her about it though was the technology level involved, Vyrose was closing the gap faster than anticipated, and she knew that this only meant her schedule would be fast tracked. They’d already located the sewer access closest to the airport, it was quite some distance from the embassy. This would alleviate suspicion but increase the supply line length. Now, even before they’d received their first supply insertion they were mining the tunnel, preparing for what Wang hoped wasn’t what she thought it was. They can’t seriously be thinking that they can maintain their covers can they?
The Eôsphoros tossed down the PDA, though pleased with the results he didn’t like the amount of uncertainty that was involved. A calculating man the Eôsphoros preferred to know what the outcome was, even if it was unfavorable, as apposed to leaving it to the odds. He’d a variety of agents assembled, they were training on the airfield where the airframe was assembled. Looking at the video captures of the Fifth Sun rebels and the pictures of his Agents ‘in costume’ he had trouble telling them apart. Smiling he felt assured that his plan would go through despite the random element.
Satellite imagery had located several Arazi cargo planes about their nation and the NNAO had made contact with some other sources to see what they could expect for an Arazi styled cargo plane. While there was no guarantee that it’d look perfectly identical it was close enough to fool anyone in Fifth Sun, and if an Arazi inspector looked at it the damage would explain the discrepancies. Or the damage that will be on it I should say. The plane had been specially outfitted with incendiary explosives, more smoke and light than explosion these chemical packs were hidden within the construction of the plane to be activated by remote. The Eôsphoros chuckled at that, there’d be enough smoke on the runway to blind any observers.
Colonel Comstock nodded again, the third time in five minutes. His men knew he was receiving data via satcom but to anyone not familiar with the Noviet suits it simply looked as if he was dosing off. Once he’d conferred with his superiors he made his way to the General, he had a bit of an odd request,…
He looked at the General waiting for his reaction. It’d taken more than twenty minutes to detail his plan to the native man but Comstock was confident that he’d gotten through. A simple recon mission all he wanted were some guides and some men familiar with Arenthes. With the Arazi supplies expected to that city he had orders to observe the exchange and see what the operating procedure for the two nations was. His second objective was a raid.
The raid was more a ruse than anything else. Designed to happen after the supplies were delivered and packed away it’d be the perfect opportunity for the rebels to cover their proverbial supply wagon tracks. Comstock’s superiors had informed him that the Noviet armed forces was prepared to initiate another supply drop but too much equipment too soon would raise flags.
“So,” the colonel informed the general, “If your men can get their hands on a fair bit of supplies, heavier hardware, anything. Nova Hope is willing to initiate another supply drop and the government, always unsure of your numbers, would assume that it came from the raid.” The colonel smiled, having removed his helmet when he entered the tent.
“Should you get some armor we’d be willing to reproduce that back in Nova Hope and give you duplicates. This goes the same for any air force or artillery.”
OOC: Sorry I’m lacking here but I think I covered all my bases, though not very eloquently. I’m just trying to keep up :D
so I was trying to write a joint post with Araznatan right...
We were plagued by every hindrance possible (communication differences, giant squids etc.) and now apparently he has fallen off the face of the earth and I can't seem to get a hold of him. sigh. I'll finish my part of the post and hopefully have it up in a day or so. much apologies.
