FWS Grenadier Guards Vs Reserves WARGAME

23-05-2004, 04:13
This one is just for fun. I thought it might be nice.

FWS FORCES WARGAME

Attackers: 5 Regiments of Reserves (5,000 Reserves) 50: 120mm mortars. All Reserves are armed with a variety of weapons. Ak-47s, M-16A2s, R-4s, FN-FALS, HK-91, etc. It varies by unit.

Defenders 2 Companies of Grenadier Guards (240 Guards) 6 120mm mortars. All GG units are armed with FN-FALs or G-3s

Location: Central Province A small town with a medium sized hill overlooking it.

The Attackers began shortly before first light. As is standard FWS attacking tactics, they used mock gas representing cyanide (a gas that dissipates in 30-240 seconds). This makes the defenders have to suit up but the attackers can then go in unburdened by suits.

As the defenders were suiting up a barrage of mock 120mm conventional shells was fired. The two platoons dug in on the hill took cover in their trenches. 6 Grenadier Guards 120mm mortars returned fire. 4 Reserve Mortars were knocked out and 12 crew members killed. It was determined that 3 GG on the hill had their NBC suits on improperly and they were marked as casualties.

The battle became an intense fight at this point as 1,000 Reserves attacked the town and 1,000 attacked the hill, and 1,000 attacked the 2 platoons of GG along the road. 1 company of GG defended the town. The hill was held by 2 platoons, the other 2 platoons were entrenched along a dirt road linking the hill to the town.

The Reserve attack the town gained some progress, 4 buildings were overrun and taken, 12 GG were marked as dead. But the progress was not made cheaply, 97 Reserves were marked as dead, 420 wounded. Also in an ambush from a church, 2 RPGs fired by GG forces knocked out 2 reserve jeeps (4 crew) and nearby reserves were caught in the blast. 16 reserves were marked as dead and 50 wounded. Reserves forces pulled back to the 4 buildings they had captured and consolidated their positions.

Meanwhile at the top of the hill the 57 GG were faring well against the 1,000 reserve forces. Attacking them, 40mm grenades, RPGs, hand grenades, and a few mortar rounds had inflicted about 200 killed and 400 wounded on the Reserves who had tried for a frontal assault against the hill. But Reserves fired numerous RPGS as well. 7 GG were marked as killed. Reserves pulled back and began to dig in around the base of the hill. They intended to surround the defenders. 1,000 more reserve soldiers were brought up and helped in the surrounding of the hill.

The roadside GG, which had 2 50 caliber machine guns, was putting up a murderous hail of fire (not real bullets of course), they cut down 126 Reserves who attempted to make a frontal assault. The Reserves learning quickly that a frontal assault would fail, called in a barrage of mock gas, smoke for cover, and mock conventional shells to force the defenders to keep their heads down. Under cover of thick smoke, the reserves closed to within about 100 feet of the GG. Hand grenades, and RPGS were used to knock out the GG 50 calibers and 8 GG were marked as killed. The GG returned fire with SAW and RPGS and killed 40 Reserves and wounded 150.

Meanwhile, the 1,000 reserves who remained uncommitted were sent to attack the rear of the roadside force. Approaching from the rear, they lobbed grenades and fired RPGS, 4 GG were killed. But the 2 GG with 7.62mm MMGs opened fire on them and killed about 40. The Reserves hit the ground and took cover behind trees.

On the hill, the reserves were mounting an assault from all around. The Sun had long since risen and the GG had a clear view of the assaulting force. 1,400 Reserves were attacking all around against the 50 remaining GG. The reserves mounted attacks from all sides, but a short but intense barrage of 20-120mm mortars preceded their attacks. This barrage caused 5 GG to be marked as killed. The remaining 45 GG took up positions and the 50-caliber machine gun team loaded their last belt. The 50-caliber swiveled every which way, it cut down about 87 Reserves. A hand grenade from an assaulting Reservist silenced the 50-caliber team. GG riflemen surrounded on the hill had killed about 500 of the assaulting Reservists by this point. However, by now ammunition was a problem. The Captain of 1st Company (he was on the hill) yelled fix bayonets and charge. About 39 GG were still counted as alive when the charge was made. They flung themselves down the hill and caught the Reservists completely by surprise. They managed to close to HTH distance before the Reservists could react, they never dreamed of a bayonet charge being attempted. 112 Reservists were killed and 400 wounded before the 39 remaining GG were all killed.

The GG in the roadside trenches had been reduced to 36 by now. They had managed to kill about 100 Reservists and wounded 200 in skirmishes that had been going for a few hours. Under cover of smoke provided by the 2 remaining GG mortars, they fell back into the village to join the remaining 100 GG there.

The remaining Reserves deemed fit for combat numbered about 1,500. They had by now completely surrounded the small village and had taken control of most of buildings. The only two major buildings still under GG control were the Town hall and the Sheriff’s station. The Reserves sent 1 group of 400 to assault the Town hall and 1 group of 600 to assault the Sheriff’s station. The remainder provided suppressing fire as their comrades advanced. There were 74 GG in the Sheriff’s station and 62 in Town hall. As the Reserves advanced against Town hall they were met by a murderous hail of small arms fire from an alley. 3 of the GG had snuck out of the Town hall and taken up positions in an alley. 17 Reservists were marked as killed. Two-dozen Reservist RPGS and a dozen or more hand grenades silenced the 3 GG.

The reserve force advancing on the Sheriff’s station was temporarily pinned down by deadly accurate GG Sniper fire from 2 different rooftops. 76 Reserves were marked as killed and 100 wounded before RPGs silenced both of the snipers. The 324 Reserves remaining made it to the parking lot of the sheriff’s station… They made it that far and no further, all of the sudden dozens of GG defenders popped up in the windows and from beyond marble columns, they opened up with a horrendous barrage of small arms and heavy machine gun fire. 200 Reserves were marked as killed. The reserves did manage to fire 27 RPGs into the Sheriff’s station and 18 GG were marked as killed. The remaining 124 requested that the 500 reservists being held in reserve join their efforts to overrun the Sheriff’s station.

The 583 Reservists who were assaulting the Town hall had under heavy fire gained entry into the building. 2 GG Sgts and 1 Lieutenant were marked as killed as they fired away with pistols at attacking Reservists. The reservists had seized ½ of the Town Hall and had killed 12 of the GG. Leaving only 44. However the Reservists had lost 174 to get this far. The 44 Remaining GG made their last stand in the basement of the Town hall. Approximately 12 hours after the battle had begun, the Town hall was declared secure after 200 Reservists died to overrun the last 44 GG in the Town hall.

At about the same time the town hall fall, the sheriff’s station fell after a brief but intense firefight and assault that cost the Reserves 379 Reservists killed and 340 wounded and all of defending GG. The fight for the sheriff’s station ended when the GG ran out of ammunition and attempt to engage the Reservists in hand to hand fighting as they came through doorways and such.

Lasting 12 hours.

Losses

Attackers: Killed: 2,380. Wounded Severely: 2,060. Wounded Minor: 560

Obviously nobody was really killed or wounded in this engagement J It was all just for fun… Well, fun and practice. J

Hope you enjoyed reading it.

Added: Forgot to mention reserves were shifted from Town Hall to help attack Sheriff's Station.
