Terrorist Raid on Soldato Italiano Weapons Depot (Open Rp)

Soldato Italiano

Stepping into his house at near midnight, Lorenzo Cavalero moved silently over to the kitchen. Looking around, he saw that his home could use a little cleaning, but he shrugged and thought no more of it. Reaching into one of the many cabinets above his sink, he pulled out a bottle of merlot. Checking the year, he opened it and took a quick sip.

"Good enough. But after what happened, I should be able to afford better."

With a little snicker at his own comment, Lorenzo makes his way to his living room where he turns on the news. Plopping himself into his chair, he watches the latest update. A rather skinny blonde anchorwoman is just finishing up a report about the rising economy, when what Lorenzo had been waiting for came on. The anchorwoman told him the story of what he had just done.

" A gun-fight broke out today in the lower part of Gori City, where an unknown terrorist group tried to sieze a military depot. It is said the storehouses hold everything from tanks to rockets and guns."

Lorenzo smiled as she continued.

" However, they were held back by none other than Soldato Italiano's own Vestaglies Neres, the elite military force that hasn't suffered a defeat yet."

At this, the Cavalero spat out the wine he had just taken a drink of.

" They never said Black Robes would be there! This wasn't supposed to happen. . .They lied. . .THEY LIED!"

Throwing the bottle to the floor, it shatters and leaves a redish stain on the otherwise white carpet. Accepting his defeat, he listens to the rest of the report.

" The most remarkable thing about this stand-off is that a 16 year old boy, by the name of Giovanni Dominicio Garibaldi, took command of the defense forces. Early in the battle, the Vestaglies Neres' lieutenant was shot and incapacitated. Giovanni ran over to help, taking the fallen soldiers weapon and leading the defenses to a crushing victory over the rouge faction. As of now, there is no reports or leads as to who these attackers could be. Their weapons were confirmed as customized Soviet Era AK-47s. Authorities believe that this raid was only the first to come, and yet it has left the people in turmoil. Riots broke out soon after, with people shouting that the government is to blame. Six civilians and 2 police officers were killed during the chaos, and it took over 5 hours for the situation to calm down. Extremist are still continuing to rally people to their side, brandishing the government with just about ever crime known to man. It seems as though a civil war may break out at anytime. I advise caution to all viewers tonight. Lock your doors and windows, and stay inside. That's all we have for now. Goodnight."

With those words, Lorenzo turned off the T.V. and mulled over what had just occured.

" This is better than I could've planned. I'll lead that little rebellion and overthrow this damn government. This Civil War could be my chance to take power."

With a smile on his face, he turned off the lights and stumbled over to his bed, where he soon passed out.

Meanwhile, in a secure location, a broadcast is sent out to the nations of the world.

" To all who protect the rights of humanity, we plead to you, help us. The Holy Republic of Soldato Italiano has come under attack by both terrorist forces and its own people. A Civil War has broken out and has claimed many lives since it began not more than 9 hours ago. Chaos has spread throughout our land, and we must stop it, however, we do not have the power to end this madness ourselves. Those still loyal to their country are giving their lives right now on the streets to save it. I ask of you, no. . .I beg of you, please help us save our proud nation. If you have any decency or honor, help us."

The port city of Santa Marina, 3:00 PM, S.I. standard time

Giovanni Garibaldi and his friend, Mario Leone, dart through the war-torn city streets of the once beautiful ocean city. Both armed with HK .45s that they took from the bodies of dead rebel soldiers, they take cover behind an apartment building. The sound of gunfire echoes through the streets as the rebel army, now calling themselves the Hand of God, march down the paths of the city, killing all who resist. Before Giovanni and Mario found themselves in this situation, they joined the Vestaglies Neres to fight back this evil army. An explosion rocked the streets a few blocks down. Horrified, Gio and Mario watch as a skyscraper toppled over, taking out the surrounding area withing seconds. Gio held his position as started to hear screams from around the building. Peeking out, he sees a girl of about his age being beaten by one of the rebel soldiers clad in red. Every plea for mercy she made, the worse the soldier hit her. Not able to contain himself anymore, Giovanni turned the corner with his gun raised, taking the rebel by surprise. In two shots, the soldier was lying on the ground in a puddle of his own blood. Picking the girl up, he motioned for Mario to follow. Creeping their way through the metropolitan wasteland, they made it to a Special Forces HQ of sorts in an abandoned warehouse. They took the girl to a medic in the building and then reported to their commanding officer the situation outside. The lieutenant in charge wanted to withdraw, as the risk of battle was now very high. Shocked, Giovanni argued with his commander about running away, now that they had a good chance of winning

" Sir, we have to keep fighting. If the rebels take Santa Marina, than we are done for. They will have a good part of the navy to destroy the coast with. This is my duty to my country and I will fight till death for it."

The lieutenant gave him a look of understanding as the young Gio spoke.

" Very well. We have enough supplies for 2 weeks. Lets hope we hold out."

NEWSFLASH

The city of Ampezzo has fallen to the rebel forces. As their march of terror keeps the nation in a state of panic, the chaos-makers sack town after town as the Loyalist Forces retreat from the oncoming storm of enemies. This may be our last broadcast as the enemy approaches with an unhuman speed, so we would like to make this clear. To the nations of the world, we are in desperate need of help. If no aid reaches our country, we will fall very soon. To the people of the Holy Republic: Good luck, and godspeed.

All right, the 7th Airborne Brigade and an aircraft carrier + escort group are on their way.

The skies over Santa Marina

A large formation of aircraft flew high over the grey lands of Soldato Italiano, now torn-apart by a civil war, most parts of the landscape were ruined. The beautiful forests, once bursting of life, now dead due long artillery bombardments. 18 C-240s, 26 EA-80Bs and their escorts, 36 EA-135As now slowly descended, gracefully, through the darkness of the night from their altitude of 30,000 feet to dropping altitude.

All aircraft were fully loaded with soldiers of the 7th Airborne Brigade, as well as their equipment. There were also some small SAS and Force Recon units attached to the brigade, extremely useful soldiers for countering the guerilla-style warfare of the rebels.

Suddenly, like a hidden signal was given, enormous pallets slid out of the cargo aircraft's doors. Now, they were followed by hundreds of men, just stepping out of their planes, their chutes yanked open by the aircraft's static lines, looking like large black umbrellas, all descending towards the dark earth....

2,000 men were left in the city and with the eventual arrival of the 200 tanks started moving towards Santa Marina. 3,000 kilograms of oil has been sent to the capital to help aid loyalist tanks in their advance towards the enemy. With the recent capture of Ampezzo airport and airfield we can now bomb the enemy until their evil cause crumbles.

Carrier Battlegroup 2 silently slipped out of Boralis Harbor in the hours of the early morning. No one spoke, and all was silent aboard the vessels. On the deck of the Valiant, a Leviathon Class Battleship, Admiral Grashal stood on the bridge, silently staring forward. His eyes, never leaving the horizon, Grashal rumbled to the orderly, "Set sail for point Alpha, 100 miles north of the port of Santa Marina. Proceed at 30 knots."

"Immediately, sir."

Meanwhile, at Hestoa Army Base, members of the 67th Airborne and 2nd Armored Divisions were alerted of the situation and preparation for deployment began. Similar scenes at Milas and Granzi City were taking place. Massive cargo aircraft and troop transports were fueled and checks were made on all equipment. The Commonwealth readied itself for war.

Re: Thankyou

I would like to thank all forces in our country that are here to save it. As of now, I am the leader of the Vestaglies Neres in Santa Marina. Our other commander was killed in an assault, and we were forced to retreat back even more. We would like you to understand that any rebels any of your troops capture are to be left alive. Granzia, we have received your message, and we would be honored to have you fight beside us. Good luck in your endeavors, and we ask of you, please save our people. To report our movements, After we defeat the forces here we will move Southeast towards Maggiore. Godspeed.

That Night, Santa Marina

Diving behind a car as automatic weapons opened up on him, Gio realized he was pinned down.

" Mario, Angela! Get over here, I need some help!"

Peeking out every now and then to squeeze off a few shots from his Tachyon X-Gunblade, Gio waited for the support he had called for. Sure enough, after a minute another type of gunshot was heard and then no more. Looking up, Gio saw his two fellow soldiers holding Steyr-Aug rifles over the bodies of the fallen.

" Ya know, if it wasn't for us two around all the time, you would've been dead a long time ago"

Ignoring the comment from Angela, the girl who was lucky enough to have been saved by Giovanni before, he lead them around another corner. He halted suddenly, and looked up. Planes could be seen overhead, with black dots falling from them. On furhter inspection, Gio saw that they were paratroopers.

" Reinforcements! Our allies have come to the fight!"

Immediately calling 10 more Elite Forces Soldiers to the site, they cleared a small zone for the men to land.

" The so-called "Hand of God" will crumble before the true soldiers of Righteousness. Santa Marina will once again be ours!"

With a shout above his band of men, Gio marched forward on the streets again. Calling forth an X-90 Tank, they drove the rebels back as even more Vestaglies Neres came to the area.

" This site is ours. We hold postition here for now."

OOC1: GHI, please RP a bit like Granzi, SI and me, that makes it a bit more interesting. To you all, I'll take the port city, so choose other positions to attack for yourselfs.

OOC2: SI, could you please send some of you Loyalist Forces to guide my troops to port facilities, flattening any resistance we encounter.

OOC3: SI, you might as well close the RP, we have enough participants now.

IC: Just outside Santa Marina

As the first weak sunlight just peered through the dark clouds, Colonel Bakhar walked over the wet grass to the olive-green staff tent. The brigade's company commanders were inside, all a bit nervous, since this was their first real war operation. He entered the tent and sat down on a empty box of ammo.

"Good morning gentlemen," he greeted. "Good morning sir," they mumbled in return. "So, as you may already know, we're here to secure the city of Santa Marina," he said, while he pulled a map of the surrounding area on the table.

"First, I want you to be grateful to the people of SI, they cleared the landing zone and guided our troops through the night, but now we have oher things on our mind. The most important thing is to secure the port facilities, so the 11th Cavalry Regiment with their heavy equipment can unship. The plan to do this is simple, the first batallion, with their armoured Humvees and IFVs will rush to the port as quickly as possible, eliminating most enemy threats. The Echo, Foxtrot and India companies will follow them and guard all strategic posistions in the city, killing the remaining enemies. All other companies will remain here, guarding the dropping zone, covering the artillery batallion and protecting the logistics batallion. We'll be supplied by EA-80s and C-240s every night and we have heli support from the carrier group. This is only a rough briefing, my assistant will give you all an envelope with the detailed orders and the rules of engagement, that's all gentlemen, dismissed."

The road to Santa Marina

The first batallion quickly rushed over the main dusty road to Santa Marina, led by Alpha company, with their heavy LAVs, the batallion soon reached the outskirts of the town. There was not much left of the town, mostly enormous piles of rubble, perfect places for guerillas to hide and attack the foreign forces. The men were careful, the Bushmaster cannons on the LAVs were ready and loaded as well as the 7.62mm machine guns on the Humvees, their metal barrels reflecting the sunlight. The first LAV now crushed a dusty sign, saying Santa Marina, next to the road. There were burning car wreckages everywere and you could clearly smell death, rotten bodies of civilians, rebels and Loyalist Forces everywhere....

As the GHIan army moves towards Maggiore they encounter little resistance and 1 mile away from the city at Maggiore hill the 1st , 4th and 3th artillery brigade took up residence. Seeing the enemy running to the defences they quickly upon up a massive artillery attack helped by the cannons from the T-90 tanks. After 2 hours the attack stops, the city lain in ruins and all silent. They was no civilian casualties since they were evacuated at the beginning of the civil war to the mountains. There was still the odd building left intack but not suitable for any military personal. Soon 15,000 soldiers walk into a destroyed city but encounter a small amount of resistance from the 973 defenders. 200 are killed, 70 flee and 703 are taking prisoner. GHI casualties were 70 wounded and 2 killed.

Aboard the Valiant

Admiral Grashal was up and about early as usual and pacing around the bridge. The gentle hum of the engines and shout of the sailors was a constant background, and made the ship seem more lively. As Grashal turned, he caught sight of his orderly enter the bridge and step toward his direction. "Well, any news from CommOps?"

"Yes, sir. We have just recieved this transmission and the attachment is maked CLASSIFIED and deemed for your eyes only. We have word the the Al-Sabirians (?) have landed in the port city of Santa Marina. Therefore, the Secretary of Defense announced a shift of plans, of which is inside that envelope." He gestured to the folder.

Carefully opening the flap, the Admiral then drew out a sheath of papers. He moved away to his chair and began to read. "Hmmm." Change of course. Contact the rest of the battlegroup and signal them. Full speed due northwest. Peering at the wall map, he mumbled to himself. "So that's the Riviera, hmm... a fertile region, well, I suppose even the enemy needs food."

OOC: I'm going to make up a few names for small towns and villages that my troops encounter, hope that's OK. :P

Skies above the Riviera port of Milano

A flight of aerial transports fly in from the south. The formation wings northward above the city before turning and heading south. The whirl of the engines downed out most attempts at conversation but when they were closing in on the drop site, the squad leaders signal for last-minute checks. Pulling the harness tight, ecah man of the 69th Airborne jumped.

Parachutes popped open, and any observer looking down would have seen a carpet of circles, drifting earthward. As his men hit the ground, Lieutenant West yelled, "Hit for cover!" Immediately they rolled behind any bush or building and waited for the arrival of the heavier equipment. A rebel soldier was spotted and disposed of with a burst of machine-gun fire. Looking up, West could see Humvees coming down.

Artillery were placed on the surrounding hills. Salvos upon salvos of shells rain down on the rebel positions around town. Slowly inching forward, the division successfully drove off the rebel forces outside of Milano. Armored tanks spearheaded an assault on the city. The burning wreckage of several vehicles littered the main road as bursts of gunfire split through the air. Ducking behind trees and buildings, the men fought their way block by block toward the city center.

Bombing raids were held by B-2s, and known hideouts were reduced to rubble. Flashs and explosions rocked the ground as plumes of smoke rose from many points, darkening the sky. At midday, a fierce counterattack sounded as thousands of insurgents rushed Granzian troops.

Corporeal Thomas manned one of the machine gun nest in the streets. Suddenly, a mass of screaming men rounded the corner and began shooting their rifles. Bullets ricocheted off the pavement has the ground lit up with fire. He ducked behind the sandbag emplacement. One of his men fell with a gurgle, a shot lodged in his throat. Thomas called out "Stand together! Let's set these mother****s back where they belong! Clipping a belt onto the feed, Thomas began lossing torrents of hot lead, raking the alley with death. The rebel attack floundered and broke, they turned and ran.

Upon reaching the city center, all resistance collapsed, and men could be seen streaming away from the fight. By nightfall, the city was freed.

Granzian Casualties: 46 dead, 131 wounded
Civilian: 59 dead, 320 wounded (most were caught in the crossfire or were killed by retreating rebels)
Rebels: Unknown

Milano Harbor

With the arrival of the Granzian Battlegroup, the waterfront of this small city had become a hive of activity. Sailors scurried from place to place, dodging the squads of troops disembarking from the transports. The carrier Vengence and its escorts remained a mile offshore, their bulk too much for the port facilities. Smaller vessels had docked and were dicharging their cargos. Wooden crates were stacked upon each other as the booms and cranes aboard slowly lowered them onto the piers.

Hundreds of HHT-1X tanks and armored vehicles rumbled off the ramps and formed a winding procession toward the outskirts of town. The camp was taking shape, as tents were sent up. A hospital opened and began providing care to the wounded, as the build-up continued...

The outskirts of Santa Marina

The Al-Sabirian troops now quickly rushed through the city, over car wreckages, through houses, while the mobile gun systems of the LAV-105s pounded on the buildings and the machine guns on the Humvees cut through every rebel they saw, of which most were only lightly armed, standing no chance against the well-trained, good equiped Al-Sabirian troops. The city was in ruins, smoke rose from its remains, turning the day into night.

Four EA-22Cs (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=80790&highlight=) now passed over the streets, while thousands of bullets blasted out of their miniguns's barrels, ripping rebels on the rooftops and in the streets apart.

Even more air-support appears, an EA-80C (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=38933) gunship started to fly in circles around its target, the blocks of houses ahead of the Al-Sabirian convoy, raining down death and destruction down on the rebels....

As Al-Sabirian troops got further into the city, the resistance only seemed to increase. The city was in flames, dense smoke arose from its remains, making it hard to breathe or to see any further than a hundred feet. The air was filled with the sound of intense gunfire and the screaming of the wounded. The ground shook, as a 105mm artillery round of the gunship impacts on a block of houses.

The front LAV, which led the convoy, was suddenly hit by an RPG, seeming to have been fired from the rooftops.

"Goddammit, get out, get out!"

Sergeant Khalid yelled, opening the troop compartment, which held 8 men. Coughing from the smoke, 8 desorientated troops disembarked, immediatly spreading out to seek cover. Another LAVs maneuvers around the vehicle, at the same time using its 30mm cannon to wreak havoc on the ledges of the rooftops.

Khalid quickly entered some kind of doorway, where some other troops had gathered, drinking some water and reloading their Tavor combat rifles.

"C'mon, we can't stay here, we gotta help our buddies in the LAVs, follow me!"

Khalid angrily announced, while whiping off the sweat from his forehead. Followed by the men, he ran outside again and he immediatly headed for a crossroads, where resistance was fierce and where the convoy, again, had been put to a halt.....
