The LRRN has recently decided to replace its aging fleet of Sea King ASWs with the much more modern Lynx II (with many domestic modifications). While the Lynx itself dates from 1971, the II model is a re-engined, all-around improved version of the most modern Lynx upgrade.

The Lynx is much cheaper to buy and operate than larger models such as the NH-90 and EH-101, while they are admittedly newer craft. However, their large size makes them unsuitable for deployment on LRRN ships, many of them russian in design and built to accept small, compact Kamovs. The Lynx is the only helicopter small enough to offer the LRRN a helicopter type that can operate from all its ships, including the new De Zeven Provincien and Byrd frigates.

Expect the Lynx II to be up for sale very soon.
