Just to let you know of 5 new, REAL weapons of interest

The elecrto-magnetic railgun is now a real probability. The new DD(X) destroyer is all electric and can divert engine power to the gun. The gun itself is about 20' long and the projectile will be 3' long and 40 pounds. For those of you who don't know what a railgun is, it has 2 rails and an armature that bridges them. An electric currnet is sent up one rail, crosses the armature, and heads down the second rail. This loop makes a magnetic field, which pushes the armature and nonexplosive projectile aboard it up the rails. The gun has a range of over 200 miles, uses only kinetic energy to destroy a target. It hits speeds of 8,200 feet per second, hitting a target at about 5,00 feet per second.

The super cavitating torpedo can now turn. The concept of making an air bubble around a torpedo has been around a while. (the bubble reduces friction.) The Russians had them during the Cold War, but the U.S. is reinventing them with the ability to turn. They travel at 230 mph, compared to conventional ones that do 40 mph.

The Advanced Tactical Laser is now a reality. The two main obstacles that has confined it to science fiction for the past half century, power and chemical exhaust, have been overcome, nearly. The first ones will be chemical oxygen-iodine lasers, but they may change once better ways are developed. The weapon should be mounted on a C-130 gunship, and it will have a 4" diameter beam with a 20 mile range. It has millisecond timing and exact aim, which cannons and missiles can't achieve. Plus each shot will be cheaper than each missile.

Rods from God, as they have been coined, are kinetic missiles from space. There are two satellites per weapon, a communications and targeting one and the actual rods. They are heat coated, up to 20' long 1' diameter rods of tungsten the use kinetic energy, just like the railgun, to destroy targets.

Metal Storm is a company that has developed a new, non-mechanical way of firing weapons. This means they can fire more and fire without jamming. They have taken out virtually every moving part of the weapon and stack bullets, with new technology, in the barrel. Coded electrical signals in each bullet ignite propellant imbedded in each bullet. The pressure created by each small explosion pushes the bullet forward and enlarges the one behind it, sealing of the barrel and preventing the other charges from igniting, until commanded to do so. Each barrel by itself can fire 60,000 rounds a minute, or if clustered each barrel can hit the million rounds per minute mark. The bullets can range from 9mm to 60mm.

I hope this may help your future RPing.

Yes, intersting

(Railguns have been in development since the early 60's, and have bene possibley since the 70's, thats technicly nothing knew, its just expensive and unpractical to bring down to something like a infintry rifle level)

Read the latest issue of Popular Science have we?

The rail-gun idea looks quite nice IMO, and could present a real savings over the long term over cruise missiles.

OOC: I've been using these things long before I saw that PopSci...

But remember, Railgun, Rods of God, those aren't modern tech. They say they won't be implemented until 2015.

They don't think the US Navy Guided Supercav will be ready till about the same time either.

Actually, "modern" tech is usually anything 1945-2020 on NS.

Thanks for bumpin this mate, [TAG] so that I can use the information in my designs.

Mmm...now that rail guns can exist, possibly being planned on a real life ship, I can go ahead and develop my own I suppose.

Apology accepted, good luck with your rail guns, and remember, it only works becuz the DD(X) is all electric.

1 million rounds a minite thats lyke 1000 rounds a second thats nearly impossible, the bullets couldnt travel fast enough. they would collide the weapons ios tottally impracticle. Railguns have been developed at rifle infantry level but on 1 man could use it as its to slow a weapon to reload. And it can be explosive if need be.

No, it isn't genius. The gun has 36 barrels. The bullets can't run into each other, because they cannot accelerate past the speed of the other bullet.

Also, effective, working, railguns have not been developed at an infantry level. The smallest combat grade ones would pose problems for tanks.

Well, what do you know? You just copied and pasted a PopSci article.

He could be talking about the 'Newness'. However, plans for Rods from God have been around since 50s, railguns since the 70s, supercavitating torpedo invented in the 70s, Lasers since the 60s, and Metal storm is only fairly recent.

Or the 'real' factor since none of them except supercavitating torpedos have been or are planned to be deployed in the next few years (Modern tech)

Been selling MetalStormLtd. for awhile, it was my first product before the InterMall was even set up.
Please don't peddle it.
My prices are resonable and I have made an effort.

Metal Storm is based in Queensland, Australia- and they're not making any money. They're always teetering on the brink of Bankruptcy, and the only thing keeping them afloat are Government Subsidies, so I heard...

For the record, Austrailia is deploying MetalStorm in the next 5 years in many variants. I have read extensivly on this.
It is currently in production stage, not testing.
It has a currently large array of platforms and a potential for even more.
SO MetalStorm Ltd. is completely logical for any nation. If you go to the MetalStorm Ltd. website you can evn have a peak at tsome of the costs associated with the development of MS, the system is quite inexpensive.
Which is why it was and is a very hot product on my Storefront.
Also the United States is in negotiations with MetalStorm Ltd. for military hardware.
MS in the real world is just looking for customers the system is ready for use.
