Nuclear Policy

The Grand Duchy of Monte Ozarka has always followed a policy of keeping a small nuclear arsenal (~15 warheads) as a nuclear deterrant. However, recent events involving several nuclear powers give us pause. Although our intentions of setting an example to the world is noble, it also serves to weaken our nation in the world of nuclear mega-powers.

Although the GDMO is committed to never using nuclear weapons in an aggressive manner, unless attacked by them, we come to this dilemma:

Should we increase our nuclear arsenal? Is it in our nation's best interests to increase it?

It depends on what you want to do with said warheads. If you only want to keep your arsenal at around fifteen, we can provide you with large warheads to assure the total annhilation of any nation. It should be noted that one needs to keep roughly ten times more than what one wants to deliver on a target, as only about a tenth of a toal strike will ever get through to their targets.

The answer appears to be yes. Seeing as how people just seem to throw nukes around over EVERY little thing.

It's very simple. A nation can keep a small amout of WMD's, and hope that escalation never occurs. However, if escalation does occur, it is the responsibility of the government to defend it's citizens. What good are 15 ICBM's against 50? Or 100? We unfortunately live in a world where it takes only one nation to arm itself to the teeth and then declare war. I myself for the longest time had less than a dozen WMD's. But over the course of time, it became necesary to increase the arsenal, now totalling over 1400 WMD's, including chem/bio warheads. And, the arsenal is about to undergo a significant increase.

While Jiggady does not promote the use of nuclear weaponry or other WMD, if you feel the need to protect yourself go ahead.. Just be careful, having nuclear weapons has gotten the FKC in a pickle on more than one occasion.

we certainly don't promote or encourage the use of such weapons but ownership... we mine uranium and we have a rather impressive setup ourselves and we'd be willing to do some selling/trading (we refuse to release just how much we do have)

hmmm, id have to say that with the current number of nations just tossing nukes around that evey nation should have some sort of deterrent. Therefore my answer is yes, up your arsenal to atleast 30, maybe 50 or 100 (just tossing some numbers around)

We applaud any and all efforts that you undertake in order to strengthen your nuclear arsenal. Being a fellow Klatchian, it is always good for member states to guard against those who would want to threaten our way of life. Rest assured that the FKC is quite technologically advanced and could most likely meet your needs. However, the FKC constitution allows each state quite a bit of autonomy, so trade with other nations is encouraged. We feel though that we should caution you in regards to Scandavian States, since they were part of a coalition that wanted to invade the Klatch.

Related to this matter, we will also let you know where we stand in regards to nuclear strikes. We abhor them, and feel they should be used either in a last ditch defensive effort or to honour whatever commitments one makes to an ally. As well, we treat any ICBM launch as carrying a WMD payload (specifically nuclear) and will act accordingly - unless we have excellent intel that says otherwise or if we were informed that the ICBM is a test launch.

We offer our expertise and manpower to help you increase your nuclear arsenal if you so wish.

I think the best course of action to take is to maintain a samll nuclear arsenal but invest heavily in anti-ICBM technology and sytems at the same time. This way you are not encouraging the spread of nuclear weapons, just deterring them. The Commonwealth personally purchased some anti-nuclear satellites from Schultaria Prime. It's cheaper to maintain also.

Indeed, and if anyone wishes to put in a bid for an anti-ICBM and/or anti-guided missile platform, go to:

However, although 15 may have seemed like an adequate number for deterrance not too long ago, times seem to have changed. The new NS society practically dictates that my nuclear stockpile must be increased in order to have any sort of intimidation/deterrent effect.
