The summary below has not been altered in any material way. We have added emphasis in bold to certain portions. THE UN IS NO FRIEND OF ANY NATION THAT RELIES UPON INDUSTRY! This resolution, which looks like it will pass, will handcuff all nations of the UN, even those opposed!! WAKE UP! The UN is overbearing, presumptive, and does not even have its facts straight. [Ask the UN just exactly HOW the North Korean train wreck would have been averted had this MANDATE been in existence. That's right, Syrian intelligence agents reported to be transporting warheads... not exactly double-hull issues huh?] Those who vote against this resolution, but have it thrust against them will have economies which suffer at the expense of its industries. Sure the environment will be better, but that is each countries sovereign right to decide, not a left-wing and green hand of those who dont even care about some countries' struggling econimies! Go ahead, ask the UN exactly HOW this MANDATE will benefit the fishing [would help prevent damage in future], tourism [?], shipbuilding industries , and trucking/transport industries [again, HOW?]. Also, who in their right mind thinks that by avoiding a few spills a year would cause the oil prices to drastically decline? This proposal is not only not well-thought out, an appeal to emotions (who doesn't want to save the cute marine creatures and wildlife?), or based on incorrect and incomplete assertions of fact, it is an out and out MANDATE that will cripple nations' economies.

"Endorse" the use of double-hulled facilities? Sure, it is a MANDATE! Not a suggestion, not an endorsement... IT IS A MANDATE to rob some nations of their prosperity!

A resolution to increase the quality of the world's environment, [b]at the expense of industry.

Category: Environmental Industry Affected: All Businesses Proposed by: 12 Days Till Midnight
Description: SPCC (Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasures)

Oil leaks; from out of date pipelines or huge storage tanks/refineries can cause enormous environmental damage. The cost to taxpayers and future generations of the world due to a mass spill on land or at sea could be catastrophic. Millions of barrels of crude oil are lost to the oil-hungry nations of the world each year. We must unite to endorse the use of double-hulled pipelines and storage/transport vehicles worldwide. This would prevent environmental disasters like the one caused by the train wreck in North Korea in 2004, that killed 3000 civilians, or the underground pipeline leak outside San Francisco, where 15 Million gallons of crude oil leaked into the Pacific Ocean affecting between 300 and 600 acres of marshland near Suisun Bay.

Oil storage tanks occasionally leak. The risk of leakage increases as the oil tank ages. If the oil storage tank is underground, a small oil leak may go undetected for a long period of time. When an oil leak occurs, it often contaminates the surrounding soil. In an area such as Long Island, this contamination eventually gets into the underground aquifer that is the sole source of Long Island’s drinking water. Therefore, oil spills in areas such as Long Island and other large cities are considered very serious. In other areas, oil spills are also serious, but may not contaminate the ground water to as great an extent. Oil spill cleanup steps are mandated by regulatory agencies and can be very expensive.

This resolution would be a huge cost the Oil Industry at first, but in the long run ~ would help lower the cost of fuel and lower the cost of environmental clean ups ~ which as we know, are sooner or later passed on to the consumers of the world. This SPCC Regulation Act would benefit the fishing, tourism, shipbuilding industries, and trucking/transport industries.

"Ban Single-Hulled Tankers" was an earlier resolution, passed by the United Nations back on April 25th, 2003 and was implemented on April 28th, 2003.
That resolution had, Votes For: 16664 & Votes Against: 2670

This proposal, is an updated extention of that resolution.

Votes For: 9846

Votes Against: 5079

This is why nations should seek anti-UN regions and alliances.

We here at teh Democratic Republic of teh Ninja's respect the sovereignty of each and single nation. If one wishes to deforest a woodland area for industrial purposes then so be it. Industrial jobs gives a person money to put into the economy. Money which could buy food for his family. A country should decide it's own fate, whether good or bad.

Inyurface calls upon those who would stand up and be counted against the oppression of the UN. I propose that the AIS sponser a thread for the creation of a HUGE anti-UN coalition.

The principal ideas would be a series of pacts among several regions and nations binding us all in our quest to protect the free-thinking and sovereign world from the UN.

It would carry with it only one mandate... ALL those consigned to the pact would pledge fincancial and/or military support to UN sanctioned aggression against a member state/region. It would be a matter of protection as opposed to offense. But it would serve notice on the UN that it IS not alone and IT will fail if it attempts to expand its impositions upon sovereign nations. WE WILL BE WATCHING!

Additionally, althought the UN has a huge amount of delegates, perhaps we can all grow to the point where one day all nations of this pact would sing onto the UN, and vote to abolish it with a majority of the votes. It must start somewhere. Here it will rise!

What say you?

OOC: Let's see. No statistics are changed. No shiny image is added to your nation. It will not be included in the game mechanics. Honestly, you can get this sort of thing with virtually any alliance - even mine, when it becomes active in about a week. Not an alternative to the UN.

Also, not too friendly ICly to Inyurface...;) But don't take it personally at all.

Just give it up inyurface.
IC:

Zoogiedom fails to recognize this as an alternative to the United Nations; it is recognized as yet another alliance but not as an alternative because of its purposes. ANY alliance should allow you to have a voice, ANY alliance will be protected by its members, ANY alliance will allow nations to rule their nations as they see fit, MANY regions are alliances in and of themselves. Not a replacement for the United Nations.

So you know, want to pass resolutions with more voice in a body of nations with less bodies? Join any alliance - especially the highly regarded Legion of Defense (http://s3.invisionfree.com/Protectorate_Service/)(sorry, a bit of advertising on my part). There are plenty of alternatives to this, filled with respected and powerful nations...this is not an alternative to the UN, and if it can even be regarded as one, there are plenty of alternatives to it.

If you are sick of the UN, then leave it - don't have to join this alliance, as this rogue nation of Inyurface indicates.

Zoogiedom is just dissapointed and jealous that his nation isn't quite as good as ours.
