[OOC: This is listed as OOC because it's considered top secret IC, but I'm also in the process of studying the armaments so that I can "build" these ships. They will not be available for sale. Before anyone gets all snippy with me about my classifications, the designations "heavy cruiser" and "light cruiser" are for classification purposes by my navy only. If for some reason you acquired these ships for YOUR navy, you could classify them however you choose. Anyway, these are only proposed figures; suggestions on some modern warfare refits are welcomed. However, I want to keep the main armament as the 11" and 9" guns respectively and I want them to be well-armored, so keep that in mind before you suggest I remove the guns. Thanks.]

*bump* for OOC feedback (please!)

What I'm going for with these classes are modernized versions of WWII heavy cruisers and cruiser-killers (the Alliance-class is loosely based on the Alaska-class cruiser-killers the U.S. was building in WWII... I say loosely because I'm using 11-inch guns instead of 12-inchers).

The crux behind the ships is that I want these cruisers to be well-armored in comparion to the ships of today.

Actually rahter good ideas, the lighter criuser sits roughly where my Valkyrie design lives (although i consider that on the heavier end of modern criusers but as you said classification is up to you) although it has a mere 4 160mm guns backed up by 2 modular MLRS systems.

The heavier design is about where i'm aiming for my Dawn class, although i would liekly again be using fewer guns (although bigger oens this time, in the form of my rapid fire long barrel (62cal) 12"ers.

As to modfications to your specs i would say that at least 1 VLS system (like say Mk41) would be a nice to have to give you that extra flexabilityand greater air cover, the harpoons might not be needed with modern interations of your proposed gun sizes esspecailly using ER or rocket assisted rounds.

Modern armour would likely use compsoites etc so be a bit lighter so you possibly could have a bit more stuff than you envision.

OOC: Reminds me alot of the Soviet Kirov-class cruisers in size and in armament (although the Kirov's had Soviet technology that is now out of date). Wish you luck.

Thanks for the comments! You're right about the light cruiser in my classification, but the idea behind it is for it really to be a heavy cruiser in all but classification. A light cruiser would conceivably engage it thinking it could win and then be greeted with a rude surprise.

I was thinking about doing two things with the class: One, a smaller, lighter version of the Alaska and an improvement of the German pocket battleships.

Good idea. I'll keep that in mind.
