ANN Special Report – “Western Badlands: Seeds of Trouble”

Western Badlands, Aequatio - With the death of Premier Bomfy and the appointment of Deputy Premier Kate Juno comes both sadness and anger from those living in the desolate Western Badlands of the nation.

Many isolated communities with regular militias have banded together in protest to the appointment of Ms. Juno as head of state, reserve armed forces units have seen a %150 increase in attacks from militia against innocent civilians and supply vehicles travelling through the communities.

Western Badlands.

Although militia have yet to confront federal military units, the notion has not been ignored as federal armed forces units are being placed on alert for any movements of militia units.

Government officials have assured the public that these are isolated incidents enacted by those dissatisfied with the change in power in the capital, and that no outside interference is present or will be present in these affairs.

OOC: I figured it was time for my usually-unified country to begin seeing breakdown after the death of its founding leader. Feel free to leave comments, support the rebels/federal government, etc.

ANN Special Report – “Terror Hits Home as Militia Groups form into Organization”

Magna Casa, Aequatio - With word of reinforcement of Federal troops in the Western Badlands, rebel militia groups have banded together to form the ALF (Aequatian Liberation Front) and have claimed that they will do anything to cast off of the shackles of the oppressive federal government and its corrupt leader, President Juno.

Metro Train bombing in Attica.

Their statement was embodied today as a series of bombings ripped through several city centres including San Allimos, Attica, Domus and the capital Magna Casa. Targets which were hit ranged from civilian to military. The total number of dead and injured has yet to be calculated, but is estimated to be well over 200 dead and almost four times as many injured.

As of this moment, the Aequatian Republic has been placed under high alert and its high security areas are now under heavy guard. President Juno has also been removed from her office in the capital to an unknown location.

From the shores on the eastern edge of Xaniq lands, a small boat set off for Aequatian territory. Members of the Al-Fatah Movement were expanding their influence. The boat was loaded mostly with grain, "to help aid those affected by the terrorist attacks", but all with some automatic rifles to be smuggled to the Western Badlands to support the ALF.

ANN Special Report – “Rumble in the Desert”

Camp Smokey, Western Badlands - Preperation for a raid into a suspected ALF safehouse was interupted today by a surprise attack by militia units. As armoured personell carriers and humvees were being loaded for the mobilization, technicals and light trucks burst through the main gates and unloaded two dozen fighters armed with small arms and shoulder-fired rockets.

orders to his squad as they take up
a firing position to retaliate against
ALF militia.

The firefight was short lived for as soon as Federal troops could mount a formidable defence against the militia gunmen, they mounted back into their remaining vehicles and retreated into the desert. As of this moment, helicopter gunships are keeping an eye on a few elements of the attack force as ground forces prepare to mount a proper persuit.

This attack marks the first confrontation between AFL militia and Federal soldiers, plans are now in order for a full on deployment of Federal Service troops in the Western Badlands.

The Al-Fatah Movement operatives lay on their stomachs in the plains near the Western Badlands. A convoy of troops, undoubtedly heading for the Badlands, was rumbling by roughly 20 feet away.

"What should we do?" whispered one of them.

"We're outnumbered, and we have no cover. What the hell do you think we should do? Stay low and shut up!"

After that, they all remained silent until the convoy had been out of sight and hearing range for at least 40 minutes. The small group got to their feet, and resumed their trek across the plains. In a few hours times they would be in the Western Badlands, and meeting with ALF forces.

At long last the Al-Fatah members entered ALF territory, and were met by a group of about 100 soldiers. The leader of these rebels welcomed the new aides, and briefed them of the situation.

The tenative plan was to push into the mountains near San Allimos, and use that as a staging point to attack convoys passing through, as well as commit various bombings of urban areas. Agricultural targets were also suggested.

With these in mind, the ALF--Al-Fatah force began to march towards the southeast.

A squad of 12 men is fighting to take control of a bridge 3 miles east of Myrink...

"Sir! They've got snipers! We're pinned down over here."

"Get on the radio! Call for support."

"Yes, Sir."

5 minutes later, a Humvee loaded with troops drives to the middle point on the bridge. The soldiers get out, and proceed to make their way to the sides of the bridge. An old rusty van drives right up within 20 feet of the bridge. The gunner opens fire on the van, The driver of the van ducks away from the windshield, and suddenly the van explodes...

"What the fuck was that!?"

"The van blew the fuckin bridge!"

By then the gunner was killed by the blast. As was 3 others. 2 more fell off the bridge, landing in a canyon 200 feet below.

The staff seargent called in for more troops...

"We need more troops and a way over the bridge, they blew up the bridge."

"Blackhawks and more troops are inbound, sit tight."

within 15 minutes 2 Blackhawk Helicopters loaded with 12 troops each flew over the canyon, along with a Comanche gunship. The gunners on the blackhawks opened fire on the remaining hostiles, decimating them with their minguns. The comanche flew ahead towards the next village.

After successful avoiding many enemy troops movements and air sweeps, the Al-Fatah/ALF insurgents finally entered the mountains. This gave them a strategic vantage point from which to process with further missions. Their first goal was to cut off the roads through the mountains, which were used in a moderately important supply route to Aequatian troops on the front. They divided into smaller groups, and began to rig multiple bridges with explosives.

"My god... this is horrible."
"No shit... come on, we should see if anyone else from the other groups are alive, and try to finish this operation. I'm suprised all of that rocket and gunfire didn't detonate the bridges. Did one of you have the detonator?"
A young man stepped forward. "Right here."

"All right, good. Lets move!"

The six remaining guerrillas quietly made their way through the rubble from the attack, and to a position overlooking the bridge. Of the initial hundred or so guerrillas who'd entered the mountains, roughly 20 had survived the attacks. They had finished demolishing the supply route and had learned via radio contact of the attack on Myrink.

"We need to increase our efforts. I suggest an attack on the nearest town. Our Al-Fatah comrades all have fake passports and ID cards, so they could slip into a town easily as a small group of humanitarian workers, or whatever. San Allimos - Midnight

The six Al-Fatah guerrillas had managed to get past the security checkpoints and into the city proper. Ahead of them stood a large business complex. It was closed at this hour, and they hoped to minimize the number of dead. Semtex was wired in strategic locations that would weaken the building's support, and the guerrillas quickly exited the area.

After walking a dozen blocks, they calmly turned and pressed the button. There were several large flashes and few thundering booms. They grinned as the building gave a little, then toppled into a flaming wreck upon the surrounding area.

The news of Premier Bomfys death comes as a shock to us - Although we never agreed on matters of politics, he was a just ruler who wished the best for his people. We recognize and support the legitimate government of the Federal Republic of Aequatio.

Although most of our Irem special forces are in an increased training program to ready them for deployment in the ongoing Gabonaise war, we are willing to spare an entire special division(4000 men) that specialises in counter-insurgency warfare and riot control; the Paramilitar Africán, as an act of good will. In Aequatio, operations have picked up in tempo and intensity with the arrival of the 33rd Airborne and the elite Krakef Guards Brigade (Special Operations/Airborne). More terrorists have been shot/captured. Total dead for Luftsgerden is only 4 men. More tanks are being sent in.

The three young Al-Fatahin drifted lazily through the city streets, smoking cigarettes and chatting about sports so as to appear inconspicuous. Military patrols drove by regularly, but didn't give them any strange looks. They did not appear altogether very different from the normal civillian population.

Their next target was to be a small shopping district, primarily three businesses: McDonalds, Starbucks and Blockbuster Video, conveniently located right next to each other.

ANN Special Report – “Bombing in San Allimos”

San Allimos, Aequatio - Fear struck the hearts of the citizens of San Allimos today as explosives ripped through the commercial district early this morning and utterly demolished the AAI (Aequatian Automotive Industries) offices here in the city.

Since the bombing occured late last night, casualties were much lower than they would be later in the morning or during the day where the offices hold up to almost 2,000 employees. Estimated dead range from between 12 to 38, with almost double injured.

A large C-130 lands in San Allimo Air Port. Vehicales unload onto the air strip. They drive their vehicales into hangars across from their position. A Huey helicopter can be seen in the distance. The old helicopter has some rusting, and the painting is thinning out, but it's still functionable. Fifteen Huey's touchdown onto the airfield. A meduim sized man jumps out of the sides. He has large broad sloping shoulders, which is shouldering his TM-93A. Another soldier jumps off sluggishly and begins to walk up to the other soldier."Are all men accounted for Sargeant?" The Sargeant turns around. A soldier nods back at him. He responds "Yes Sir. All men accounted for." He looks around at the vehicales surrounding him. "Sir when's the 2nd Mech due for." The Captain takes a quick glance at his watch and responds, "At oh two hundred."

An Officer of the Aequatio quickly jogs toward the soldiers.
"You're the SpecOps? The Captain and Sargeant look at each other. The Captain resonds, "Yeah that's us." The Officer nods. "Great let me show you your bunks." As they all walked together the Aequatio Officer asks "When are you guys going to be combat effective"
The Sargeant responds with "We could go now. But with the 2nd Mech it could take 4 days to get all the Regulars, and armor in." The Officer nods and they enter the bunkhouse.

With the declaration of martial law, any further plans for attack became increasingly difficult. Groups of more than three people would be arrested and detained, and a strict curfew had been established. Anyone out after curfew could be shot immediately.

"We need to give further support to our allies in the badlands, but how?"

The others simply shrugged, or sat motionless, watching news footages of ALF insurgents being executed by soldiers. One of them spoke suddenly.

"We'll do it during the day. Three attacks at once."

"But think of the casualties that will incur! These are civillians, not soldiers!"

"So what? I haven't heard any action or talk against the war coming from them. Even just walking down the street, in private, no one was discussing the war. There's been no sabotage, no strikes, no protest at all. They are complacent, and they are part of this war machine. There is no such thing as an innocent anymore. They've been murdering our comrades left and right with no remorse, even the ones who surrendered. So fuck it, lets strike the fear of god into these people."

The Ninjanian Convoy of 10 HUMVEE's was nearing the mountanious region, where the concentration of terrorist fighter where at the greatest. The Convoy drives by a dune, not noticing anything unusual. On the side of the rode a Resistance fighter hides near the dune. He waits for the convoy to pass before he crouches to observe them. He clicks on his radio, "Comrades, we have vehicales heading toward your location. I advise you engage."

The ALF group leader was resting on the side of the dune with the rest of his 34 fighters. They had been waiting in this location for nearly 2 days, without a suitable target passing by. The communicator operator walks to him. "We have company sir." The leader rises quickly with the news. "What will we be facing." He points to the radio, "Well the scout says light vehicales. Most likely light infantry." The leader lowers his head in though. "Alert the soldiers. Get our best rocket soldiers." The operator quickly runs to spread the news.

After waiting for nearly an hour and a half, the ALF soldiers can hear engines in the distance. Four soldiers stand by armed with RPG-7Ds. The Humvees are in view now. They're moving quickly, and once they're within 50 Yards they pull the trigger.

Cpl.Williams was dozing off. He'd been driving for hours straight. He looked around at the scenery. Same thing as always. High rise dunes, mountains in the distance. He sighs. He looks straight ahead, and is staring down a inbound RPG. Before he could react the RPG slams into the engine of the humvee. Soldiers jumped out of their vehicales, shooting towards the top of the dunes where the RPG's originated from. Rifle fire from the dunes return. As the soldiers return fire towards the dunes, another RPG is fired. This one misses it's target, but causes disarray in the ranks. Inside a Humvee the LT in command radios air command for air asistance. "We need air support! Suffering casualties and RPG fire." The radio cracks and responds. "Roger, Super Cobras inbound. ETA 15 minitues. Out." The fighting ensues. The LT walks carefully, checking in on the soldiers. He counts 2 dead, and 8 wounded.

The ALF casualties were climbing. The leader counted atleast 6 bodies around him alone. That dam machine gun was causing them hell. The 4 RPG operators were killed, his most prized fighters. He saw though that they had a chance. If they killed the machine gunners, and killed their officer they would leave the soldiers in disarray. They would have no heavy support, and one by one they would perish. He squeezed the trigger of his AK-47, and peppered the sides of a Humvee. He smiled. These fools will pay for killing my men. A fighter's head beside him jerked. He turned to see his communicators head, or what was left of it. The leader shot his rifle in anger, for the communicator was his brother. He wounded a soldier, was was zeroing in on his head. Just as he was ready to fire, he heard the distinct noise of a cannon firing. He looks up towards the sky and sees a helicopter. Before he could warn the others his body was blown in two. The AFL fighter received a similar fate. The Super Cobra fire 5 HellFire missiles on a strafing run. The ALF fighters were dead.

The LT was advancing toward the dunes. He secured the ALF fighters bodies. A young Private says, "Hey LT, We got a live one." The ALF fighter was breathing heavily. He had shrapnel in his calf, and couldn't walk. The LT takes out his SIG P226. Aims at his chest, and puts 3 bullets in the soldiers chest. "We're done here. Tell 3rd Company to advance. We'll hold here." The total casualties at the end of the day was 3 dead, and 11 wounded. ALL AFL fighters are presumed dead.

Back at the airstrip, 4 Super Cobra helicopters , and 10 more HUMVEEs arrived via C-130. The SpecOps were sitting quietly in the bunkhouse watching TV. The telecomm buzzes, "All Soldiers of the 73rd are to report to the briefing area, out." At the briefing room the Captain walks up to the map. "Ok, gentlemen, our job today is to secure logistical, and strategical forces outside Myrink. As most of you know the city is currently under seige, and the situation is hostile. We'll have 10 Stormers, and 10 HUMVEEs from the 2nd Mech for assistance. We are to abide by the Rules of Engangment, and not fire unless fired upon. Any questions? Good move out."

Having left the mountains, the 16 remaining Al-Fatahin/ALF operatives were heading for the badlands. As they got closer, they found many dead bodies and signs of large troop movements. They raided the bodies for armor and weapons, picking up some nice Aequatian uniforms and weapons, and continued on. They soon came across an abandoned humvee. The driver and passenger were lying just outside of it, dead. They found the keys, and piled as many inside as possible, with the rest sitting on the roof and the back. The communications array inside gave the men a clear view of what was happening: the ALF was almost done for. In light of this, the group sped towards the rear end of the troop movement against the ALF, and hoped to inflict as much damage as possible.

"Company... Halt! You sirs, please step over here."

The two men, loking slightly nervous, walked slowly over to the Bradley.

"Please spread your legs."

At that, one of the men drew a Beluga M-4, a nice one too. He whirled it around at McKay. Suddenly, a shot rang out from a rooftop. A large dart stuck out from the man's thigh. The other man was swiftly handcuffed and both were sent to the cell in the Bradley.

Aequatian Special Forces assault one of the entrances to Mr. Jabar's stronghold during the raid.

Myrink, Western Badlands - As the fighting here in the town of Myrink was winding down, it seems as though all is quiet as the leader of the ALF faction fighting against Federal forces, Sami Jabar, was arrested today in his stronghold in the center of Myrink.

Aequatian Special Forces along with the 1st Armoured and 4th Mechanized Divisions launched a raid to capture the leader of the garrison to quell the fighting for good in and around the town.

Although proclaiming that "we will all fight to the death" over a megaphone from within the stronghold, Mr. Jabar was found cowering in his office when confronted by Federal soldiers and many of his militiamen were found killed by their own hand once troops were upon them. Only 8 were taken prisoner (including Mr. Jabar) out of the total 34.

The plan seemed fitting, and so the humvee made off for the small boat that had brought the Al-Fatahin to Aequatio.

There was silence over the radio.

"We are so fucked." mumbled the man at the driver's wheel. Then the sound of gunfire came, and a large amount of blood sprayed across the windshield. The humvee came to an abrupt halt, and the helicopters continued on, but made a sharp turn.

"Do we have any fucking weapons in this thing?!?! Come on!"

They threw the humvee into reverse, and shoved as much bullet proof armor as they could find in the vehicle onto the roof and front windshield.

On the outside, half the men clinging on had been ripped apart by the gunfire. One of those remaining sat down at the .50 caliber machine gun mounted onto the rear of the vehicle, and opened fire on the helicopters.

Startled, the soldier jumped back a little, much to the amusement of his comrades.

If they searched him in the base, the casualities would be even higher. The only way out of this for them was to let him free, as he was the only one who knew how to disable the trigger. "Perhaps, let's find out who he is first, I'm not going to kill one of our own citizens in cold blood... rebel scum or not, I cannot kill those I am sworn to protect," whispered back the sergeant as he moved around the soldier and over to Khalid, "All right, who are you and why were you out in the desert with your buddies?"

"Home Nest, this is Falcon two... on return trip with sierra foxtrot squad plus papa oscer whiskey, possible tango... E.T.A. is 20 minutes... Over." said the pilot over the radio.

"Affirmative Falcon two, landing pad seven is prepared for your arrival, pad eight reserved for Falcon one... over." replied the Camp Smokey ATC personnel.

"Roger that Home Nest, Falcon two out."

Khalid shifted uneasily when the general moved closer, and avoided eye contact, instead looking at the ground.

"I'm a member of the Al-Fatah Movement, from Xaniqall. We heard of the uprising, and thought we could help. The ALF insurgents welcomed us, as many of the people we sent had seen actual combat before. The group I went with headed into the mountains and blew up supply routes. Some of us also headed for one of the cities of your land. The rest of us felt worthless sitting in the mountains, so we started for the Badlands again, and came across a humvee. We figured it would get us there faster, so we hopped in. Then we got word of the ALF surrender, and headed for the shore to get home. Thats when you came along."

After the resistance forces have been defeated at Myrnk(sp?), the Special Recon Group(SRG) had been ordered to the far west to prevent any enemy movements. The Sergeant had been given 72 SRG soldiers, each with their standard TM-93A, LAW, and Glock 17 pistol. Inside the moving Stormer vehicale, 9 soldiers sat cramped, the heat making them prespire. The young officer commanding the Stormers tapped the Sergeant on his shoulder and yelled into his ear.
"We should be arriving at the destination soon. Tell your men to check their gear. Once you've unloaded we'll provide heavy support. The Sergeant nods. After about 10 mintues of waiting the Stormers come to a halt. The Sergeant yells on his radio. "Everyone out." The soldiers quickly jumped out of their vehicales. They walked toward the large mountain peaks in the far NorthWest area of Aequatio. Within the first day of searching almost nothing of value was found. Merely some evidence of previous fighting.

On the second day of operations however, a recon Stormer reported evidence of movement, up about 6 miles. The soldiers saddled up in the Stormers and began the search. After about an hour of looking a group of , what seemed to be, ALF soldiers were spotted.

The LT tapped the Sergeant on the should again. "We have contact. Small group of 6. They haven't identified who they are. " The Sergeant took a look at his men and called in his radio "Disembark, we have contact of possible op4." The Sergeant then said to the LT,"Keep them painted, if they fire, give them hell." With this he jumped out of the vehicale.

He took a good look at these travelers, they looked tired, and all beat up. One of them was wounded with an obvious bullet wound. He sees that all of them are carrying big backpacks. The Veteran Sergeant had an idea what was in there. "Don't any of you move." He said with his TM-93A leveled at them. " But down your backpacks slowly." They did this, however he noticed each of them was sweating heavily, either out of the heat, or perphaps something else. He ordered a near by corporal to take the backpacks. The young SRG soldier opened it. The Sergeant, with his rifle still levled at them, said "What's in it?" The Corporal looks up, "Well there's a AKSU-74, and 2 grenades. The other ones though got, some C-4, a couple RPG heads, and a improvised explosive." The Sergeant shoulders his rifle, and takes a look. "Well looks us we got us some resistance fighters. Take them to HQ for questioning. Call in the UH-60's we got in recently." The Corporal nods, and goes off to the command Stormer. As the Sergeant directs his attention to the backpacks for any information, one of the prisoners pulls out a pistol. As the prisoner aims for the Sergeants back, a SRG soldier reacts quickly and puts 4 bullets in the prisoners chest.

The prisoner falls heavily to the ground. The Sergeant turns around. "Jesus Christ. Relington, and Furnin, check them for weapons. Be careful when you check'em. " Within 2 hours the helicopters arrive. The Sergeant himself moves aboard to guard the detainees, along with the 3 SRG soldiers all ready on board.

The Sergeant radios to his team "Good job boys. Mission Accomplished move out to HQ. We'll get what we can from our new friends."

The sergeant paused for a moment, taking it all in before moving back to the other side of the chopper along with the soldier, "I knew it, sir, he's a foreigner... let's dump him over, no one'll be the wiser. Just say he tried to go for one of our guns or something," whispered the soldier.

"Well, he won't be missed, we know that much," thought the sergeant, "And I won't feel guilty since I'm doing my job."

The sergeant looked at the soldier and nodded, the young soldier went over to another trooper sitting with his legs down on the skids of the chopper and holding an M249 SAW, "Sarge says we gotta push this asshole over, you wanna help?" he asked the burly machinegunner.

"Sure, it'll be fun to hear him scream all the way down," replied the gunner quietly and with an evil smirk.

Both the soldier and the gunner moved over, one on each side of Khalid and they both looked over the edge down towards the bare forest below, just then the soldier looked up at Khalid, "So... did you learn to fly at that terrorist camp, scumbag?" And with that remark, both the soldier and the gunner pushed the man out of the open helicopter and towards the ground below.

"See you in hell!" yelled the gunner as he spit out the speeding chopper.

After it appears that most hostilities are over, the Luftsgerden force has been pulled out, except for two military police companies and two Special Operations A-teams. TG me if more troops are needed or none are needed at all.
