Concerns over the giant orbiting Colodian nuclear satellite

Colodia

To make a long story short, Colodia sent a nuclear satellite into orbit in a war caused by the previous administration. Newly Elected President Joseph Kevlin is at a loss over what to do with it.

"The nuclear device was meant to only work at it's prime during the Shildonian and Chellian War. And now we are worried about it's current conditions and the fact that it's in an area where most of the sattelites roam."

The President has also commented on how theres a big red button that can easily be pushed to detonate it at his office.

"Oh, and upon detonation, the nuclear device would disrupt many satellite television linkups, spy sattelites, civilian and private sattelites, experimental satellites. As well as sending a cloud of radiation unto the stratosphere, devasting the atmosphere. And God have mercy on the poor people that may be under the satellite when it explodes, for we have no clue whether or not radiation will get throught the thinning atmosphere."

As said in an earlier report, this satellite is self-armed with a self-destruction mode should it be disrupted in any way. This is thanks to Shildonia's advancements in orbital space flight.

This is the world's worst reporter, Keith Olberman (OOC: With respect to the real Olberman), reporting.

The United Socialist States of Schultaria Prime poses the following questions to the Nation of Colodia in concern of this satellite.

1. "What types of avoidance systems and countermeasures are on the present satellite?"

2. "What is the primary offensive weapon of the satellite? Is it strictly a nuclear weapon, or a more refined EMP neutron device?"

3. "How is the self destruct mechanism triggered? Is it an automatic activation due to orbital tampering or anti satellite weaponry, or is is under the manual authority of a ground crew?"

If you could answer these questions, we believe that the Schultarian Space Administration might be able to draw up a solution to solve this very real threat.

As this presents a dire threat to many people, Credonia would like to offer its assistance to bring this nuclear satellite offline to avert any catastropies that my result should it be detonated.

This better not screw up anything with our space station.

Of course, the obvious thing to do would be to have the thing do a braking burn and have it burn up in reentry somewhere over the ocean. It shouldn't release too much radiation.

The People's Republic condemns this continuing belligerence from the terrorist loving nation of Colodia, and demands that this threat to world peace be removed immediatly, before an accidental, or perhaps more likely an intentional detonation causes massive casualties to innocent civillians.

Is it nuclear-powered or a weapon? We can offer assistance, is the device re-entry capable?

1. As I said earlier, it is set to self-destruct should it's hardware be disrupted. Physically disrupted...hmm....perhaps a chaff weapon could help us out?

2. It's primary a nuclear bomb that we put in a big hi-tech shell that we flinged into orbit.

3. Let's just say a Bomb-Squad won't wanna touch this thing. The Colodian Space Agency has no power over this weapon. And the Air Force didn't really think that they needed to disarm this weapon.

First off, Colodia is NOT a terrorist-loving nation. Second, it was Shildonia's invasion of Colodia that caused this mess in the first place.

Intentional detonation? The only intentional detonation is if rebels storm the capitol and press the "Big, Red Button" on President Joseph Kevlin's desk and detonate the bomb.

the Democratic Republic of New Vuhifell would like to request the blueprints of this sattelite as well as the durability, not for our own use, we hjave Ion Cannons (experimental), but we are sending a crew of Astronauts up there just in case, if succeeding the astronauts will EMP the sattelites orbit sending it into the Pacific ocean *any nations in the pacific if there are any damages to your fish foods we will gladly supply you with money damages...

Wouldn't having this thing burn up or crash anywhere release a large quantity of radiation into the atmosphere? Even detonating the thing in space (presuming it's in a medium-to-low orbit) would cause some to reflect back to the atmosphere, no?

This is the problem with nuclear weapons of any kind - once you've got them, it's very difficult to get rid of them without damaging something.

While we are unable to directly help (Kelonia's space programme is still very much in it's infancy - we've got hardly anything up there so far, let alone the technology to put people into space) we could suggest that instead of trying to bring this thing back to earth, why not find some way to remove it from orbit altogether and have it float off into space? Of course it might get caught in the gravity of another planet, maybe even a populated one if it went too far, and cause plenty of destruction but it's better than having it damage the people here.

Any military action that was taken against the terrorist harbouring Colodian regime was perfectly justified under international law, as there was an extremely good chance that the terrorists being trained in Colodia would attack Shildonian interests overseas, or perhaps even strike at Shildonia itself. Those terrorists represented a clear and present danger to the world in general, much in the same way this rogue nuclear weapon is.
This nuclear weapon is clearly a first strike weapon, and it was built solely to cause harm to the law abiding and innocent people of Shildonia. Should this satellites orbit come even remotely close to Shildonia, it will be regarded as the precursor to a nuclear strike. You have been warned.

I believe the solution would be to send up a rocket, strap some boosters to the satellite and launch it off into space. Thats our best bet and then detonate it when its far enough away from the earth as not to cause any harm. Credonian astronauts are capable of performing the task

Shildonia, The Colodian Space Agency would glady send you the dates and times of when the satellite would orbit above your nation. But we HAVE NO intention of detonating it!

Credonia, that idea seems splendid. How soon can you get this threat removed from Earth?

I think Credonia's idea would be much safer....and more practical.

NV will give 2 USD's to Credonia for its wonderful space idea (2 bucks seeing as how their space program is MUCH more well funded than ours, we can barly afford to put up an observatory with all our space funding going to the military)
