"Defiant Class" Super Carrier - Buy the best!

Kazakhstania
09-05-2004, 21:00
Kazakhstania, as some of you will well know, has been gradually building up a large navy and developing a huge Super Carrier force. As others of you will well know, the Defiant Class of Carrier has been in service for quite some time with the Kazakhstanian Navy. And so, we decided we could make a huge profit if we sold this feat of naval design to other nations.

So, here you go, the worlds finest Super Carrier!

"Defiant Class" Super-Carrier

http://venus.walagata.com/w/woodhall/Carrier_02.JPG

Design

Designed to be as large and hold as many aircraft as possible at one time, this aircraft carrier was designed for extreme power projection. This also requires ultra long range and good personal defence. Also, this aircraft carrier was designed also to serve as a fine command ship, the leader of the fleet and often the Flagship of the Navy. Therefore, good electronics were needed.

This has all been catered for in the one carrier, while at the same time not going over the top with either feature. We have done well to get this aircraft acrrier to the standard it is at just now. The design is ultra modern, systems state of the art and personal defense almost inpenetrable. This is what we are proud of, the finest carrier in the world.

The main hull design is streamilned and designed to have heavy armour capable of stopping most Medium Range Anti-Ship Missilews from penetrating. Also, the interior of the ship has sectioned into "blast zones", designed to contain any explosion and fire from spreading to threaten the ship. Also, the ship is double hulled, the outer hull being a Steel Alloy and the inner being made of Hard Titanium Alloy.

The interior of the ship is quite spacious for the crew with rooms, messes and shower rooms for all of its 4,924 crew and officers. There are various arms hangars and navigation rooms, all blast prrof and designed to contain huge explosions. All this is carefully shaped round the main interior spaces - the hangars.

These huge spaces are right under the deck, and there are three of them - one at the front, middle and rear. There is a smaller helicopter hangar near the rear, interlinked with the 3rd Hangar. All have elevators to the flight deck and elevators from the main arms lockers. These huge hangars are also hugely fire proof and explosion resistant, and have repair and maintenance spaces in them.

The bridge is high tech and failry cramped - yet it can fit a surprising amount in there. The three huge KN-1768 Nuclear Reactors are powered from here and all the weapons systems, along with the navigational controls, aircraft launch systems, ship intercoms, communication equipment and accomidation in the lower part for the captain and admiral if needs be.

The huge nuclear reactors are reasonably quiet and quite powerful, managing to push the huge ship to 27.68 knots on level seas. They are also superbly safe, with a 60 year life guarentee, unless of course they are blown up by an outside source! Moving on from propulsion, limited Amphibious Assault Ships and located near the rear and the accomodation for the Marines is under the bridge.

The most important part of the ship, however, is the flight deck. A busy place on most other carriers, it has huge amounts of space on the Echo Class. The light deck has a huge size of around 400 metres by 100 metres, at the longest and widest parts. Its landing part allows for even larger fighter aircraft to land, as it is wide and long.

It has two catapults that allow two planes to take off at once and five arresting gear. Also, it has a 'ready' area for 18 aircraft, allowing for queues to be built up for aircraft to take off. It has large maneuver spaces and four elevators, and a VTOL area near the front for VTOL aircraft and helicopters to take off and land. It event has an area for relaxation in rest times.

The design of this ship are second to none, especially for its size. It can withstand up to an SS-N-22 missile strike and most Ramjets too. It is even designed to withstand suicide aircraft attacks. It is a truly huge and survivable ship.

Systems

The systems on this ship are fairly advanced, yet there are few of them. Why? Because they do so many jobs at once. Take the navigational equipment for example. It can use GPS, land mapping, take references off of other ships and plan the quickest route all by itself. The JTIDS system, a system for passing on target information, is linked with it, allowing bypass routes to be written.

The JTIDS is linked with the weapons systems, allowing targets to be found, identified, targetted and passed on to other ships in almost a split second. The weapons system can simultaneously fire and control all weapons on the ship. The communications system can communicate with, jam and black out all frequencies knowkn to man. The ECM system can kill every type of radar on earth. And everything, from cooker controls and missile systems, is interlinked. The captain can even turn on his cooker from the bridge.

The sensors on the ship are several of the worlds best. This includes one short range KN-145 passive Sonar, one KN-155 long range active sonar, one SMART-L Derivative Long Range Radar and one SMART-S Anti Ship Radar.

And why are all these systems so advanced? Because Kazakhstania is one of the most digitally advanced nations in the world, ever. And we are bringing it to you.

Weaponary

This ships weapons are not missiles, bombs, rockets or torpedoes. Its weapons are planes. And there are plenty of them. Safely, in its hangars the ship can carry 110 aircraft and 12 Medium Sized Helicopters. However, with aircraft on its deck and helicopters too, 134 aircraft and 16 helicopters can be crammed on. This allows huge amounts of firepower to be projected wherever the ship can go.

However, this ship has some weapons. Among them are several of the latest weapons systems we have. Here is a list:

24 SAAM-3 Anti Aircraft Ultra Long Range Missiles (200km Range)
24 RGM-165 Multi Purpose Missiles (230km range)
12 SS-N-22 Sunburn Anti Ship Missiles (130km Range)
12 KASHTAN CIWS systems
6 Laser Anti Missile Systems

Even for a carrier, it is heavier armed than a fleet. So, good luck stopping that firepower.

Now, that time we all hate. Stats:

Crew: 4,924 Crew and Officers, 1,200 Aircrew
Displacement: 170,000 tons
Length: 412m
Beam: 62m
Draught: 15.9m
Flight deck: 401 x 102 m
Speed: 28 knots
24 SAAM-3 Anti Aircraft Ultra Long Range Missiles (200km Range)
24 AGM-165 Multi Purpose Missiles (230km range)
12 SS-N-22 Sunburn Anti Ship Missiles (130km Range)
12 KASHTAN CIWS systems
6 Laser Anti Missile Systems
Propulsion: Two KN-1768 Nuclear Reactors
Four Emergency Diesels

Enjoy your carrier. And any inaccuracies in stats, can you please inform me? I know very little of size :(

Cost: $10 Billion

Thankyou.

Sorry mate, I cant.

Your a bit new, and you dont have the money.

You could afford one, but I am afraid you might not be able to afforf much else.

Concentrate on army and air force, then navy.

I would link you to the GDP calculator to show you how much money you got but I aint got the link.

Just advice, bud.

OOC: All looks generally good (the price is a bit low, since RL carriers cost more than that for ~half the (deployed)aircraft capacity*). So long as people realize that 28knots is the max speed with a normal cruise probably in the 15-20knot range. Crew of that many must have super high automation and must not be counting aircrews and air support crews. A redesigned carrier with a 40-50AC capability might manage to approach that total crewing with a highly automated system, but that's barely more than the basic crew component of the Nimitz.

*- nimitz class has an ~ 90 AC deployability but hasn't gone out with that many for a long time due to high AC costs.

PS Check www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship under nimitz for stats and info. If you want any help or have any questions feel free to ask...I'm usually available although it might take me a bit to respond.

Good luck with this thing.

Relying upon economies of scale perhaps, but even in NS you're not building that many, and when you want to make a profit as well then prices are not going to be that much lower if at all.

1) Displacement is too low. If you look at current vessels, you'll see that, in general, there's a little over 1000 tons displacement for EACH aircraft carried, so put the base at 140,000+ tons. With extra weapons batteries, it goes up further, to say, about 150,000 tons. However, you also note heavy armor, and should add at least 15,000 tons for that too. This thing should really displace close to 175,000 tons, or more.

2) Most players go for scramjet missiles rather than ramjet ones, and you can't give it enough protection to stop a properly-designed scramjet missile.

3) Communications and ECM claims are either an extreme exaggeration or an extreme godmod. You pick, but it's impossible to realistically claim that you can intercept, jam, and block every communications system known to man, and completely counter every type of radar (heck, even current systems are incapable of rendering a radar completely useless).

4) AGM stands for Air-to-Ground Missile. I have some difficulty thinking of a weapon with that designation being fired from a ship. The proper designation is "RGM" for a surface vessel, and "UGM" for a submarine.

5) There's only 1 "N" in SS-N-22 Sunburn

6) Crew is pathetically small. Even if it was over 90% automated, you'd need more. Somone's got to watch and maintain all robots and electronic systems, especially with the reactors and aircraft.

7) All this talk about superadvanced electronics, the tiny crew complement, the size, the armor protection, etc means one thing. This is not cheap. I think $10 billion would be a low price for something that's only a fraction of what is being claimed.
Oologah
10-05-2004, 07:06

I'd say that the carrier would be closer to 50-60 billion for something of that caliber.

Quite so.
I'd say that the carrier would be closer to 50-60 billion for something of that caliber.wtf? If you're talking about the shear size of it compared to the Nimitz, it's MAYBE 10 at the most, and that's by RL STANDARDS!

11-05-2004, 21:33
OK, I'm new to this nationstates thing. How do I know how much money my government has to spend on ships and stuff? Why would I need any ships, or even an army if there is no war option in the nationstates game? My country cannot be destroyed or anything so why would I spend the money? I really like this ship though! :D While I'm on the subject, the President of Haasitania would like to buy: a mansion, a yaught, a fishing boat, gold plated rocket-car, and a gulf stream 5 to get to meetings. If I have money to spend, can my country build these or can I buy them off another country? Is there a way to put in a classified ad?

Aircraft carriers? I scoff at that! The future of naval warfare lies in battleship, with cruisers and torpedo boats to support them! And why would one even carry those fimsy"aircraft" one a ship when they are useless and inferior? Zeppelins and other airships are the future of aerial warfare! I would match up one of my naval zeppelins against one of your "airplanes" any day! How can you compete with 65 mph top speed, a couple tons of bombs, 10000 foot ceiling, and a giant 200m long hydrogen-filled bag defended by ten spandau machine guns?

This looks like a nice ship. The LRRN has never paid much attention to carriers, and the LRRN carrier force consists of only three Clemenceau and two Kuznetzov class carriers, plus a half-completed Orel.
