Stockley/Wychwood (finally) satisfy RWAF requirements

Walmington on Sea

Since the late stages of the Second World War, in which Walmington was a major protagonist opposed to the forces of fascism (and arguably expansionism only where it was attempted by funny coloured people), Air Marshal William "Bomber Billy" Pertwee has been in pursuit of new strategic aerial force projection tools. In fact the controversial commander has been widely distrusted in WoS ever since, following the infamous Fascist attack on Guernica, he began to appeal for the formation within the RWAF of a bomber command.

Finally Pertwee got his tiny force... and never had authorisation to use it. PM Mainwaring declined to attack mainland Europe after liberating North Africa and Sicily, and Bomber Command began to fade. The recent... adventure against the British rebel colonies and the on-going stand-offs with Nazi Europe and the Soviet Union brought about new commissions.

These have been filled by Wychwood Automation and Stockley Motors of Walmington on sea, and have provided the Royal Walmingtonian Empire with new medium and long-range bombers to support the wildy successful DAMkI* Musca fighter bomber long in RWAF service.

Revealed in a fairly public display over Southend (where else?) were examples of the two brand new bomber classes set to enter full production in the immediate future.

JBMkI Wychwood medium jet bomber Partridge

DBMkII Stockley Baobab

Crew: 9
Length: 135’4”
Span: 192’7”
Weight: 220,000lb
Power Plant: Four R-4360 3500hp engines
Top Speed: 369mph
Cruising Speed: 245mph
Range: 6,200miles
Ceiling: 42,000ft
Defensive Armament: Ten 20mm cannon (in twin turrets; one on nose, one under nose, one under belly, one on top, one tail), one1” cannon (tail)
Payload: Usually 38,000lb conventional ordinance or one nuclear weapon
Notes: This aircraft was reported by one minor paper to cost £W1million a piece (that’s considered to be a lot).
Yes, the Stockley Baobab is powered by the same sort of engines that propelled the B-36 Peacemaker, though they came into Walmingtonian possession via Calarca
The DBMkII’s range enables it to reach Berlin from and return to Walmington without stopping; it is more likely to be employed against America’s west coast (and possibly in keeping the Empire in check).

WBC Documentary Cinematography- Partridge sticks it to Sam!

Yes, she's finally fighting, and giving Yankee Doodle what for! These pictures show a pair of Wychwood Partridge jet bombers returning to friendly Canada after a six-hundred mile per hour dash into the heart of rebel territory. How did it go, our boys?

"Well, we ah met a bit of grey over Indianapolis, but ah the girls held up well when we dove in for a closer look... hah, ah they never knew we were there, because we didn't see any flak coming up..."

Another success for the new wonder weapons the Royal Walmingtonian Air Force weilds against terror and anarchy! A direct hit!

The terrible editing and nausiating camera work continued to beam into literally dozens of Walmingtonian homes as stock footage of artillery range blasts was passed off as the destruction of an American war factory of some sort. Another success for Walmingtonian film making!

Next on Bomber Command's target list- Hollywood!

(Uh, oh, that was a final bump!)

((heh...best paragraph of the year? It might be!

Sorry I missed this - consider it a belated tag to keep up (and by 'keep up', I mean watch Walmingtonian developments saying 'dang, wish we had one of those!') with news!

Oh, and that documentary would probably be gold in the teneral theatres. ;)))

Perhaps we could interest you in our Lancaster II Jet Bombers?

Colonial Aircraft Factory Lancaster Heavy Bomber II

Yet another updated WWII Design, the CAF Lancaster is considerably bigger than its original version, but outfitted with the latest in technological advances. It also has four Jet Engines to power it, plenty of guns, and a nuclear payload-capable bomb bay. (Imagine a Lancaster Bomber the size of a B-52, complete with Jet Engines, and you have the CAF Lancaster II).

Crew: 9 (Pilot, Co-Pilot, Navigator, Bombardier, Radio Operator, 4 Gunners)
Armaments: 16x .50cal MG, 8x 20mm Cannon (all in turrets)
Engines: CMC "Dragon" Jet Engines
Top Speed: 1,200km/h
Payload: 30,000kgs
Other Equipment: Ejection Seats (Pilot/Co-Pilot/Radio Operator), External Weapons Racks, Nuclear Payload

And, on a slightly different but similar note:

Imperial Aerospace Sunderland Flying Boat

What good Empire doesn't equip it's Air Force with a Flying Boat? Roycelandia is no exception, and despite first being introduced in 1936, the Sunderland Flying Boat is still in service with the Maritime Air Service, and still in production at Imperial Aerospace's Torpedo Bay Factory, upgraded for modern conditions.

Crew: 11 (Pilot, Co-Pilot, Navigator, Radio Operator, Martime Weapons Officer, Loadmaster, 5 Gunners)
Armaments: 16x .50cal MG, 8x20mm Cannon (all in turrets/gun ports)
Top Speed: 520km/h
Cargo Capacity: 8,000 Kgs/50 Passengers
Other Equipment: Ejection Seats (Pilot/Co-Pilot), Depth Charges, Torpedoes, Air/Sea Rescue Equipment, Cargo stowage gear

The prices on both aircraft are open to negotiation, since as far as Roycelandia is aware, we are the only Nation operating them...

Considering that the Walmingtonian coast guard (the security rather than civilian rescue branch) presently struggles by with a handfull of Swordfish, Wasp III float-biplanes, and O/TMkI Acorn (ooc:think Avro Anson) it'd be hard down Sunderlands. We've found the British (ooc:in our reality) hard pressed what with the persistence of continental fascism even since WoS SOW's elimination of Mr.AH, and Walmingtonian, ah, flying boat industry is... well there isn't one.

The Chaspot Company (formerly the Henry Wayne Cape Company) is also keen to express an interest in the various commercial applications imaginable for such large flying boats. Civilian air travel is set to take off, as it were, in Walmington, and alternative to water borne goods haulage between WoS and her empire is also sought. Sir Henry is interested in the possibility of deploying four or more Sunderlands as passenger aircraft, and perhaps several dozen as basic cargo transports.

Bomber Command has politely declined to follow up on the new Lancasters, probably under pressure from Wayne and Stockley Motors after the introduction of the Baobab.

Well, we can sell Sunderlands for $3.2 million each (price negotiable).

Perhaps you'd also be interested in some of our Spitfires:

Imperial Aerospace Spitfire Mk V

Roycelandia's famous Fighter aircraft, maintaining the appearance of its WWII counterpart, but heavily updated, utilising the latest in Technological Advances.
It's quite a lot larger than the WWII Spitfire to handle modern armaments and ECM measures, but still smaller than a standard Jet Fighter.

Crew: One (Pilot)
Armaments: 4x .50cal MGs, 4x 20mm Cannon, 8x Napalm/HE Rockets, 8xAA Missiles
Engine: IMC "Whirlwind" Turboprop
Top Speed: 742 km/h
Other Equipment: Ejection Seat, JATO Rockets (experimental), Long Range Tanks (optional)

And three other aircraft you might like:

Colonial Aircraft Factory Stormcloud Ground Attack Aircraft

Recently unveilled by His Majesty, the Stormcloud is the closest thing Roycelandia has to a Flying Tank- designed for Tank Busting, Ground Attack, and some Combat Duties.

Crew: Two (Pilot and Rear Gunner)
Armaments: 6x20mm Cannon, Rear Turret 2x20mm Cannon & 2x.50cal MGS, 32x Napalm/HE Rockets/Missiles underwing
Engine: IMC "Whirlwind" Turboprop
Top Speed: 653 km/h
Other Equipment: Ejection Seats, Extra Armour, Long Range Tanks, Bombs (500lbs total)

Colonial Aircraft Factory Tigershark Ground Attack/Trainer/Recon Biplane

Yes, It's a biplane. It's also made of Kevlar. And with a near total lack of unnecessary expensive electronic component to be disabled by either enemy for or crash landings by inexperienced students, the Tigershark is ideal for ground attack against inferior forces, or simply teaching pilots to fly.

Crew: Two (Pilot and Rear Gunner/Observer)
Armaments: 2x 50cal MGs, 8x rockets, 2x .303MGs for Rear Gunner
Engine: CMC "Aeolus" Turboprop
Top Speed: 362 km/h
Other Equipment: Ejection Seats, Bombs (200lbs)

Colonial Aircraft Factory Kookaburra Recon/Liasion Aircraft

Based on the WWII Lysander, the Kookaburra is ideal for Reconnaisance, Liason, Artillery Spotting, or hunting large African Game from.

Crew: Two (Pilot and Observer/Rear Gunner. Some Kookaburras have room for a passenger as well)
Armaments: 1x20mm Cannon, 2x .303MG
Engine: CMC "Aeolus" Turboprop
Top Speed: 615 km/h
Other Equipment: Ejection Seats, Camera Array, JATO Rockets (optional).

Prices, as always, are totally open to negotiations...

(ooc: Heh, woops, sorry the Ians, I completely missed that post. Thanks! You can be sure of at least one small, macintoshed, bowler-wearing film-maker appearing in a scruffy effort to distribute Walmingtonian propaganda reels in the Shield and there about.)

Beauregard Rain, Governor of Waynesia and senior member of the Chaspot Company board, has made an official approach to Roycelandian authorities and concerned companies. The Chaspot Company is tabling an initial offer of W£15million (vaguely US$60million or fractionally above) for twenty new Sunderlands.

Though the Chaspot Company is a private affair and intends to use the Sunderlands for commercial purposes, as Mr.Rain has expressed in his preliminary communications with various tax and regulatory offices in the Royal Walmingtonian Empire, there has been no request for the deletion of defensive guns from the order. Not that Sir Henry's building a private army, of course.

As for the other aircraft, the RWAF is currently rather over-provided in terms of choice. There are three biplane types in service with the military, five jet fighters, one jet bomber, two piston engine bombers (once the Barrow is fully withdrawn) and a piston engine fighter-bomber, as well as utility aircraft and light transports. Our equivalent to the Spit is the MFMkIV Wychwood Siren, designed by 'Caper' Bromley Davintosh. 1,900hp Stockley Raven piston engine, .55"guns and 20mm aviation cannons. None of that air to air missile stuff- we've only just put the 2" Grapeshot rocket into service with anti-bomber squadrons :)

((Quite all right; we're used to being ignored ;). You can be equally sure that at least one small, macintoshed, bowler-wearing film-maker will be gladly received and handsomely rewarded for his footage of the 'Eastern War' - which might show alongside images of Four Corps storming Midway or Three Corps linking up with Filipino freedom fighters.))

After extensive consultations with the Imperial Defence Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Imperial Aerospace, the Imperial Trading Company, and the Department of Oversight, we have decided that your offer is fair and acceptable, and we shall deliver the Sunderlands to you upon receipt of the appropriate funds.

Whilst we understand that the supply of Defensive Armaments to a civillian organisation might not be desireable to our friends in Walmington-on-Sea, we in Roycelandia are firm believers in the Right Of Everyone To Have All Sorts Of Firearms And Other Weapons.

So, as a compromise, all your Sunderlands will come with the ABILITY to have defensive armaments mounted (ie all the turrets etc), and a couple of crates marked "Spare Parts- Mechanical."

We're sure you'll understand.

Those responsible have been transferred somewhere very cold or largely inhabited by vicious wild animals with sharp pointy teeth.

With the deal granted no initial opposition by Great Walmington, Mr.Rain sent Chaspot's confirmation and thanks, and arranged for the transfer of funds to begin.

Reports indicate a growing military interest in the flying boat concept, with eyes turned towards the lakes of the North American theatre. Whether the government may look to purchase further aircraft or simply to let Chaspot's is yet unclear.

In other news of sorts, talk of the crashing in the Bighorn mountain range of a Wychwood Partridge is of course without foundation in fact, and in fact dangerous to the war effort. Ah, police action. Effort. Ah, American public supported the Hun! Flash documentary explains all, at ten!
