WOODSTOCK (AP) -- With the war in Holy Panooly coming to a close, President Mike Sarzo announced that the provisional suspension of sanctions imposed against Nellisland would be made permanent.

"We still call upon Nellisland to enact the reforms we have asked them to make," Sarzo said. "But the intelligence they provided was invaluable to our war efforts and we believe that fact is a mitigating circumstance."

The legislation to lift the sanctions passed the Senate easily by a vote of 25-11, but had a much harder time in the House of Delegates. The debate in the House lasted 18 hours and passed by one vote, 110-109.

"We believe the reforms need to be made before we can even consider lifting the sanctions," Delegate Walter Barkley said in a rambling speech that exceeded his allotted three minute time limit by five minutes. "Sarzonia can not be a partner with a country that treats its people worse than cattle."

House majority leader Josh Williams, the biggest proponent of the legislation in the House, argued that Sarzonia could resume the sanctions if Nellisland didn't make "substantial progress" on the reforms.

"The last thing we need is enemies," Williams said in an interview after the vote. "They plugged the gaping holes in our intelligence and that helped us win this war. That deserves recognition more than anything."

In other news, Senior Vice President for Internal Affairs Dave Forrest resigned citing health reasons. When Senior Vice President for External Affairs Mark Lorber declined the constitutionally-mandatated offer of the position, Sarzo nominated Chief of Staff Nicole Lewis for the position and Parliament approved by a voice vote.

Parliament also approved by voice vote a bill to suspend the Wartime Powers Act, a standard procedure after a war ends. As a result, the suspension of the Sarzonian constitution ended with the consent by Sarzo.
