Statement From the Office of the Prime Minister

Earlier today, at the request of the Party Secretaries, I have dissolved the Royal Congress. For the past 2 months the constant Partisan bickering over treaties and the National Budget has prevented the Royal Congress for doing the business of the Grand Duchy. The debates on Foreign Policy and the Military have complete consumed the Royal Congress.

Therefore as Prime Minister I hereby dissolve both Houses of the Royal Congress. Elections will occur in one month's time.

It is the Hope of this Office that the Parties that come to power in the new election will restrain themselves and focus on the work of the nation.

Until the Royal Congress is back in session, all legislative authority has been assumed by the Privy Council.

Current Status of the Royal Congress:

Royal Senate-
200 Senators. 2 elected by popular vote from each Province.

Seats By Political Party:
Popular Party- 43
Central Coalition- 89
Union Democrats- 16
Republic Party- 3
Labor Party- 0
Nationalist Union- 49

House of Representatives-
500 Representatives. 1 elected by popular vote from each District. Districts are of equal population size.

Seats By Political Party:
Popular Party- 151
Central Coalition- 147
Union Democrats- 20
Republic Party- 43
Labor Party- 13
Nationalist Union- 126

Political Parties
Popular Party- Center-right, moderate conservative party. Focused mainly on business issues.
Central Coalition Party- Center, progressive moderate party. Focused on law and order and social programs.
Union Democrat Party- Left, liberal party. Focused mainly on socialist programs.
Republic Party- center-left, moderate liberal party. Focused on abolition of the monarchy.
Labor Party- Far-left party, radical liberal. Focused on worker's rights and communist style programs.
Nationalist Union Party- Right, conservative party. Focused on national defense, national security, and nationalist foreign policy.

Thank you and good day.

Prime Time

Election season comes early this year as Prime Minister Cessar has dissolved the Royal Congress. It seems the reports of bickering and stalling were all true.

The current ruling Unity Coalition made up of the Central Coalition Party, the Union Democrats, the Labor Party, and moderate members of the Popular Party is looking to increase their hold on power in the coming election.

In an extremely rare event political event, Field Marshal Alexander Kepplar, Chairmand of the Joint High Command Council, has endorced the Nationalist Union Party. It should be noted that the military members are not barred from taking public political stances. However, election watchers have noted that having the highest ranking officer in the Royal Armed Forces publicly endorce a party is an extremely rare occurance.

In a statement earlier today Senator Bernard Allenby, Party Secretary of the Nationalist Union Party, thanked Field Marshal Kepplar for his endorcement. He further said:
"I hope that this shows the Citizens of the Grand Duchy that Our Nation needs to take a more nationalistic approach to governance. For too long Hamptonshire has suffered at the hands of Internationalists. Now is the time for Hamptonshire to stand own its own, for itself."

At the same press conference Senator Allenby and Republic Party Party Secretary Governor Joseph Fredericks announced that the Nationalist Union and Republic Parties would be running together in hopes of forming a coalition government.

What this could mean for Hamptonian domestic policy, foreign policy, and the future of the Monarchy is uncertain at this time.

The Nationalist Union/Republic Coalition Government has won absolute majorities in both Chambers of the Royal Congress. Senator Bernard Allenby, Party Secretary of the Nationalist Union Party and Chairman of the Nationalist Union/Republic Coalition Government, has been sworn in as President of the Royal Congress. After the ceremony he said:
"Today is a new day friends. Hamptonshire will act for Hamptonshire. We will be strong, We will be united, We will all live together under the Rule of Law."

While the election will not change the Grand Duke's Cabinet, the Royal Congress is now firmly in the hands of anti-monarchists as well as nationalist neoconservatives.

In related news the Labor Party is beginning an emergency meeting to decide its future. With only 1 seat in the Royal Congress, senior Labor Party officials are suggesting that the Labor Party seek to combine itself with the Union Democrats.

Royal Congress experts expect that while the government will for the time being remain in control of the Grand Duke's Cabinet, which is filled with moderates, the Nationalist Union/Republic Coalition Government will seek to brand all Hamptonian policies with their own viewpoints.

"I promise that the Nationalist Union/Republic Party (NURP) Coalition Government now in power in the Royal Congress will not cease until we push through all of our reforms and projects. The people of Hamptonshire have spoken; they are tired of moderates and centralists who endlessly compromise and deal away the future of Hamptonshire. Now is the time for action. Now is the time for strength. And the NURP Coalition can deliver that.

Thank you."
