Eredron Troops Land in Mauritius ~ Open

Despite having left the region less than a week ago, military officials announced this evening that Eredronian military forces would be returning to the Indian Ocean area.

"At this time, it is the opinion of myself, the Military Command Staff, and the Consul, that foreign and domestic elements threaten to plunge the area into chaos. We are therefore taking steps to prevent this."

The government and military have refused further comment.

"Sonar?"

"Clear, sir. No contacts on screen."

"Range?"

"Forty miles."

"Signal clear for takeoff."

"Yes, sir." A mike was raised. "Confirm, air wing, green light for takeoff."

Above the bridge, the decks of the twin carriers Claymore and Stalwart rumbled as the first F-22E Raptor shot across the deck and lifted gracefully into the air. Engines glowing brightly against the darkening skies, the two fighters paired up, moving as one as they circled around the carrier in a widening circle.

The fleet continued on course, heading south under full steam. As the fleet closed on the small island ahead, the admiral turned to his XO.

"Notify the Wasps: green light to begin."

From the bowels of the ten Wasp Amphibious Assault Ships came thirty LCAC Air Cushioned Landing Crafts, as two dozen CH-46 Sea Knight and eighteen CH-53 Sea Stallion helicopters lifted into the air. Under the watchful eyes of destroyers, frigates and submarines, the landing force assembled and proceeded towards the looming coastline of Grand Baie, Mauritius.

As the cities of Eredron awoke and slowly began their day, nearly 8,300 soldiers swept onto the beaches of Grand Baie, Mauritius.

http://www.alovelyworld.com/webmauri/gimage/mau29.jpg

Supported by dozens of helicopters, the first wave of troops emerged from their landing hovercraft as dozens of tourists looked on. By the time the Consul had stepped into his office, local government offices had been successfully taken by Airbone troops. The city of less than six hundred was quickly occupied and pacified. As the major routes of transportion into and out of the city was secured, the first wave of C-5 and EA-80 Transports flew overhead, delivering supplies and the first five Abrams tanks.

Less than two hours after the first troops landed on the beach, a report was relayed through the fleet, back to CENTCOM.

Shortly, thereafter, the Consul held a live, internationally televised press conference.

Ladies and gentlemen, two weeks ago the government of the island nation of Mauritius contacted the Eredron Republic, seeking foreign assistance from what was described as quote, "a clear and present danger" to the democracy of Mauritius. The President and Prime Minister of Mauritius, as well as their National Assembly, requested that the Republic establish a stabilizing military force on the island of Mauritius, to maintain democracy. This morning, I am here to announce we have done so.

As we speak, nearly ten thousand soldiers are establishing themselves on the northern coast of Mauritius. In a matter of hours, their numbers will have doubled. These soldiers go forth for a noble cause, one that will not fail.

Press Release:

"His Holy Majesty's Government views recent developments in the Indian Ocean with some concern. Although the efforts of the Eridronian Republic to maintain law and order are laudable, we have reservations on this matter.
The world has seen countless incidents of a nation "requesting" aid from another, and the second nation sending in military forces in a "police operation" in the first, only to find out that this is merely a pretext for annexation.
But there is no evidence yet that Eredron is preparing to follow a similar path, and until such evidence is provided, we applaud these efforts."

Sir,

The Lord Protector of Starblaydia has not been made aware of any need for peacekeeping and stabilising troops in Mauritius, which has long been a stable, happy place.

Please would you inform us further by confirming the specific actions you will be taking to defend Mauritius form its perils, as well as the nature of peril that presents itself as an international security matter for Mauritius.

Yours Faithfully

The Republic of Ozymandias IV welcomes this development in the nation to our east. We are always pleased to see the establishment of stable governments within our strategic sphere.

Further, the Ruling Council has authorised the Ministry of Defence to participate in joint peace-keeping duties in the unlikely event that Eredron should require assistance.

Almost ten hours after landing, the Admiral of the Southern Fleet had arrived at the capital of Mauritius and met with the national government while tens of thousands of Eredronian soldiers, supplies and armored support arrived through Grand Baie.

http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/maps/mp-map.gif

By that afternoon, almost half of the island was completely under control. Military patrols were firmly in place along major roads in the north, from Grand Baie to Port Louis. The Admiral, acting as a represenative of the Eredron Republic, witnessed as the government of Mauritius declared itself under the protection of Eredron as a Principality. At the same time, the men and women of the Mauritius armed forces were given the order to stand down and submit to the authority of the Eredron Expeditionary Force.

To the international inquiries made, both public and private, concerning the recent operation in Mauritius, the Consul released a short statement:

The threat to the safety of Mauritius, and to Eredron, was very clear, and very real. Mauritius faced the danger posed by both internal dissidents, and foreign terrorists. Democracy was threatened, and for this reason was the Republic's intervention requested. We have taken proactive steps against the threat of terrorism, and will continue to do so. How? By raising Mauritius up out of the conditions that so easily breed terrorism, and revolution.

FPS has a few questions and declarations about this incident.
1. Were any Mauritius citizens harmed during the initial invasio..er...reinforcement of their nation?
2. Was the governor forced under arms to sign the treaty?
3. What is Eredron's positions towards the citizens of Mauritius, and it's intentions towards the state in the future?
4. What is the intensity of the troops in the area? Are they simply helping the police, or completly enacting a martial law type state.
5. Who are you helping Mauritius protect itself against?

1.) To the knowledge of Central Command, there have been no civilian casualties.

2.) The government of Mauritius willingly and capably exercised their power during negotiations with the Republic of Eredron.

3.) Mauritius shall prosper under increased Eredro-Mauri cooperation. The Mauritius Accord provides for nearly 2.1 billion Eredronian Marks to be put into the Mauritius economy through various private contracting, government assistance, and other means.

4.) There are currently 30,000 soldiers acting as a stabilizing force within Mauritius.

Until there has been confirmation from Muaritius about your actions, the Imperial States of Hamanistan will be sending two carrier groups to be sationed just outside the region. Our forces will not be deployed unless there has been a threat to the people of Muatitius, a threat to our forces, or if there has been a call for help from any nation in the region to stop your forces from any possible threat to the Muaritius Government.

To repeat this is only a pre-cautionary procedure, and we will only stay until confirmation has been received from Muaritius about your intentions. Also we will not be in regional waters, as we do not want to incite any hosilities from other nations in the region.

The Grand Duchy of Monte Ozarka has to look upon recent events in Mauritius with some degree of suspicion. Although no actions on the part of Eredronian forces bear the mark of Eredronian imperialism, the GDMO government would like to make an inquiry into the situation regarding two questions:

1) Which entity is currently highest in the overall command structure: the Mauritian civil government, the Eredronian military, or the Eredronian civil government?
2) Is there any tangible proof that substantiates the claim that Eredron is acting in accordance to Mauritian requests? If there is, please provide it to the international community.

The elected government of Mauritius will handle the affairs of the nation, as before, working cooperatively with the Republic.

To the nation of Exham, we must strongly urge against any attempt to deploy troops to the area. This will be met with a swift response.

2) Any aid possible to help build up the nation of Mauritius, both militarily and civily.

"What's the latest?" the Consul asked as he shook hands with the group of ministers and officials gathered in his study, a former library constructed in the 1700s.

"The campaign seems to have been generally approved, or at least tolerated, by most of the world. A handful have questioned the occupation, but there is little they can do now. This dispatch placed our troop level at 45,000 infantry, 20 Abrams, 25 APCs..our carriers are projecting total air superiority over the island - "

"And what about the government, the populace?"

"News is travelling slow in the country. Most still know nothing more than their president requested foreign assistance. By the time they are incorporated, we'll have a secure enough hold to prevent any major unrest."

"Besides," another minister said, "what reason do they have not to go along with this? We're going to pump billions into their economy. Fifty thousand Eredronians and a naval base won't even be noticed."

We are in international waters, and we are going to stay in international waters until we receive some sort of confirmation. Also, the two carrier groups have been put on high alert, and will remain on high alert until your fleet lowers its alert status. We have not and will not fly any missions, nor will our ships venture any further into the region, without proper permission. We will also be treating all ships, and any type of aircraft that come within 500 yards as a possible hostile and begin scrambling our fighters. At the same time we will try to establish contact with the craft, and order them to turn around. If they do not answer or do not comply, then we will treat them as hostile and open fire.

However we are not a hard nation to get along with and we are not here to start a fight. For the moment we have 200 marines stationed onboard our ships and we would be willing to join your efforts if you are to ever need help.

Public Dispatch, Office of the Consul of the Republic

Due to the increasing international military presence in the waters of the Indian Ocean which poses a clear threat to the island of Mauritius, I feel it necessary to make public legislative acts passed to combat the dangerous elements forming in the Indian Ocean.

To more capably coordinate and carry out a defensive contingency plan on the island of Mauritius, be it hereby known that the aforementioned island of Mauritius has been unanimously voted as an unincorporated Principality of the Confederated Republic of Eredron, granted therein all the inherent rights, privileges and protection guaranteed under the Constitution of Eredron. Furthermore, I have ordered an additional thirty thousand soldiers to the island of Mauritius.

All naval forces remaining in the area after forty-eight hours[1 RL day] will be viewed as potentially hostile to the Republic, and to Mauritius. Eredron will not be held responsible to the loss of life, accidental or otherwise, incurred by nations seeking to blockade or otherwise threaten the island of Mauritius.

We will not be leaving, until we get some proof that you are not there for imperialistic purposes. Also any attack on our ships will be considered an act of war and we will spare no resource to drive you from the area. Also seeing as we are in international waters we have all rights to remain in the area. We are not even in the region yet. We have not shown any signs of agression, and will not. Until the threat of attack has been lowered, we will be raising our alert status to high alert. This means we can hav our fighters in the air within half an hour of receiving the order. To show we are not here to as agressors we will not be flying any missions.

--Message to the Office of the Consul of the Republic--

Sir,

The New Lord-Protector, Tiberius Starblayde, has been watching events in the Indian Ocean unfold with some trepidation. Your actions can, under different circumstances, be viewed as annexation, as there is no evidence to suggest Mauritius was under threat before you arrived.

As such he asks for a gradual stand-down of military readiness on both sides of this dispute, as well as a more passive protection of Mauritius, if that is acceptable to whoever governs the province.

The Republic of Ozymandias IV again calls for all Hamanistan and Exham vessels to disperse from the region as we view their presence as a destabilising force.

A second task force of Republican ships is enroute to this area from the east after failing to find any sign of a rogue Guerrillistani warship in the eastern Indian Ocean.

The Republic further questions why these two governments continue to maintain a military presence in these waters after a referendum by the people of Mauritius confirmed their desire for the protection of Eredron.

Arranged in three diamond-shaped groups, the twelve F-22E Firehawks moved in an almost-flawless formation through the clouds, their enginers burning brightly in the night sky.

"Eagle Flight, this is Leader. Follow my descent."

With precision, the fighters dropped out of the clouds, the sleek aircraft shooting towards the calm ocean below.

"Home, this is Eagle Leader. Range to target: fifteen miles."

After a brief delay, a flat voice replied. "Range confirmed at two-zero miles. Clear to proceed."

Nudging his Firehawk into a slight barrel roll, the pilot dropped his fighter another fifty feet, followed with precision by eleven other F-22Es.

"Range to target: 5 miles."

As the distance closed, the targets on their radar became visible to the naked eye: two Hamanistan carrier groups, holding their position off of Mauritius.

At two miles, the fighters broke off their head-on approach, and began circling the carrier groups as the Intrepid rounded the African tip and made its way into the vicinity.

The fighters would continue their circling, gradually closing in to a mile, then pushing the Hamanistan-imposed boundary of five hundred yards.
