GB Land News Network (GBLNN) 9:34 AM, Bellatrix, Capitol city of GB Land - This morning as the president refered to only as "GB" exited his armored limo and walked towards the Grand Hall, GB Land's capitol building, a single rifle shot pierced the cool morning air. The sniper's bullet hit the president slightly above the left ear, killing him instantly. Members of the senate have siezed control of the government. One, Charles Johnson, issued the following statement:
The citizens have lived for too long under the 'democratic' rule of this dictator. Nobody even knew his real name! The People's Socialist Party has taken control of all government functions and we are now the official government of this nation. We will now refer to this great nation by the name of its capitol, Bellatrix, rather than the name forced upon it by, and named after, our oppressive 'president.'
Top political analysts speculate that this coup has been planned for quite some time. As soon as the president was killed, members of the People's Socialist Party immediately and effectively took control of all aspects of the government. The military, which has always been loyal to the Senate and not the president, will completely support this new government.
Small riots have been reported in many cities accross the country, but they were easily dispersed by police and military forces.
