We are currently seeking a medium-sized, active region that shares, or would at least serve to further, our goals and vision. Here is some info about the GDMO:
The Grand Duchy of Monte Ozarka is a democratic, socially-progressive nation. Free trade is much encouraged, and businesses are aided by the government until their requests trample upon the most basic personal freedoms of its citizens. The government is devoted to the humanitarian aim and will often go to great lengths to aid a country in dire need, due to one reason or another.
It is, in general, a peaceful nation but will stand for an active role in defeating unprovoked aggression, terrorism, and imperialism. The moderately-sized Army, Navy, and Air Force are manned by a well-trained soldiery and have participated in many operation on a small scale. The draft is mandatory and create a large reserve, ready to be called into active service at any time.
The GDMO government is headed by the hereditary Archduke, currently his Honorable Archduke Philip IV, who is entrusted with full executive and state powers. The legislative body is of a two-tiered fashion, comprised of the House of Lords and the House of Commons, commonly called the Upper and Lower Houses, respectively. Most legislative power rests in the Lower House, with the Upper House relegated to passing only legislation that deals with only its own class. Both Houses are elected through general election by and from its respective members. The country is split into a number of districts, from which two elected members are sent to the House of Commons. A majority of the citizenry in each district can call for a referendum on any particular bill, thereby forcing both of their delegates to vote in the manner of the outcome.
Provincial governors are directly appointed by the Archduke himself. There is no legislative branch at the provincial level.
City government is headed by an elected mayor and an elected City Council.
The judicial system is comprised of district judges at the most basic level. Higher cases go to the national courts in the capital. The highest court is the Supreme Court, which presides over matters of constitutionality and judicial matters of national public officials. The appellate courts are of several levels, eventually ending in the Supreme Court. All magistrates serve for life or until retirement.
