Following an intelligence briefing five years ago, the Senate voted in a closed-door session to begin research and development for a land or space-based anti-missile defense program, capable of tracking and bringing down up to one hundred incoming conventional or unconventionally armed missiles. The first operational stage of Project Bastion was revealed to Concordia and a limited number of other allied nations, while progress continued on the project, for the second stage dubbed Bastion II.
Using a combination of space and land-based tracking systems, Bastion II iintercepts and destroys incoming missiles while still in the atmosphere. Using over three thousand missile silos and AA/SAM sites linked together by a centralized supercomputer fortress to nearly four hundred satellites and ground radar systems, Bastion II is estimated at possessing a 85% success rate in eliminating all inbound targets.
Bastion utilizes a modified version of the EDI Stryker ICBM, Eredron's primary nuclear missile. Designated the Mark III Interceptor, the missile is shorter and lighter, making it more maneuverable and responsive to in-flight course corrections. The Bastion II will provide protection against a ballistic missile attack for all Eredron and her principalities.
Development of an improved Bastion III will continue with funding of nearly ten billion Marks [~1.89$].
