The scout cruiser drifted through space. past planets and suns. on board Admiral Hodges paced up and down the command deck. crew and officers watched on in amazement as an astropath sat in meditation. she semmed to be in a trance as she stared into space, unblinkingly. Hodges approached the young woman and as he did she jumped up screaming, her eyes pure white with energy. then she let out a howl and collapsed. Hodges backed up as guards ran forward to restrain her. they dragged her away as she kicked and screamed. "What did she see" Hodges asked to the others. the officers shrugged and eventually went back to there stations.
The woman wasa huddled in the corner of her quarters as Hodges entered. he went straight to the point. "what did you see?" he demanded
"Th........the......them"
"who!" he shouted. he grabbed her arm and pulled her up.
"The Great Devourer!" she whimpered
Hodges released his grip and set her down on her bunk. "How many"
"thousands..........millions....too many to count"
Hodges stood up and left the room. this was beyond his power now.

The scouts stood to attention, there commander approached.
"As you know this is a great threat to humanities survival. you have been commishioned with the order of protecting an astropath as she carries vital information on this new threat. she will be arriving on the planet Cavelera in three days. i need you to make sure her route is safe from enemies out and within. that is all"
the scouts departed on their mission. it would not be easy
ooc is it alright if i played as marines. maybe if u played as the tyranids and i was the scouts and Busby normally goes as Guardsmen- if he plays

(ooc: Im just gonna do the intro for the story-just to get the ball rollin)
The craft made its way down onto the platform its hulking shape blotted the two suns as the ship touched down. a burst of steam and the whirring of hydraulics as the front ramp slowly dropped down to the floor.
slowly and elegantly the young astropath walked down the ramp. around her troops turned to look at her, as though there were something mystical about her. following behind her were numerous guardsmen and at the head of them a Navy officer, his chest complete with medals and a well crafted las-pistol and power sword hung loosely at his side. He lifted a hand and instantly troops fanned out from their position and formed a defensive ring around the astropath and himself.
Suddenly shadows dropped over the troopers and they each looked up. At the officers amazement he realised what these objects were. Spore Mines. then the troops around him open fired and well trained volleys blew the mines apart, unfortunately one mine broke through, it was an acid spore and it slowly descended on a nearby trooper. the soldier covered his face just as the mine went off and he fell to the ground. as medics rushed to him, they spun him round his faced was still melting even as they attempted to clean the wound. the mans eyes and the left side of his face fell away as a medic attended to him.
the remaining troopers and the officer led the astropath away.
they had been followed
Veteren Scout sergeant Burbank held onto the support belt as tight as he could as the drop pod made its descent. the pod burst through the atmosphere and inside Burbank chanted the Litany of Faith to the rest of the team. brother Marcelo held his shotgun closer to his chest, he stared at the gold eagle on his breastplate and the chanting sunk into his mind. beside him brother Petrini, a new recruit, was rigid and clenched his teeth as the pod shuddered on its descent. Callahan looked at Petrini and laughed, he looked over to the sergeant and and nodded as he rested his hand on his heavy bolter. the other scouts joined in with the prayers and awaited the touchdown.
***************
as the pod slammed into the ground and the ramps dropped the squad were already sprinting down the ramps. Burbank led his team down the country road. he looked back and noticed that the second squad were sneaking through a field of tall grass. they had spotted something. he opened the comm link. "What have you seen sergeant Carneal?"
"Something rustled in the long grass" he replied.
"Roger that, remember the mission brother, we must not get distracted. the convoy will be here soon and we must rondevou with them on time!"
"Roger that. i wont be long"
Carneal edged carfully through the grass. the blades reached higher than a rhino and seeing anything was impossible. he had left brother Jacobs with the heavy bolter to cover there flank. Carneal drew out his scanner and held it out in front of him. a blip appeared on the screen. "ready your weapons brothers. Roper, move out ahead and see if there is a barn or house."
"yes sir" he replied and he cautiously moved on. within seconds he had dissapeared into the long grass. three more blips appeared. then four. five. "ROPER!!" shouted Carneal. no reply.
He kept moving and he used his chainsword to cut through the grass. suddenly he came to an opening. bile rose to his throat. Roper, or if it could be desribed as a man, lay in the grass. he was simply a tattered ruin of flesh. blood covered a wide area and his shotgun lay on the floor, not a single round fired. suddenly a scream came from behind them. Jacobs. it was followed by Heavy Bolter fire and screams that pierced his very soul. Tyranids. he led his troops in a sprint back to there position. then as if from nowhere he hit something solid. something that he had not seen before. now it towered above him as it came out of its camoflagued state. A Lictor. With one slash of its huge claws it decapitated Philips and gutted Newman. then he snapped to his instincts and raised his bolt pistol and fired. the bolts pattered harmlessly of the Lictors hard carapace. Carneal emptied the whole clip into the beast but it still stood. then he realised his doom as the beast stooped down towards him, its jaws wide open.....
OOC: Sorry i am a bit late, i have a question though. I wish to be guardsmen, so would you want me with the convoy or out on a patrol?

please i like 40k RP's.....
Burbank sprinted through the long grass. the thick vegetation sometimes causing him to stumble. the rest of the squad followed on behind him. eventually they came to an opening. Burbank stopped. what he saw almost made him retch. the unreckonisable remains of the second squad lay before. strewn like rag dolls. then he heared a noise. whimpering. something rustled in the grass ahead. Callahan readied his heavy bolter. Burbank waved a hand and he stood down, then he approached the sound. as he slowly pushed away the grass he looked down as something tugged on his leg. it was Carneal. Biurbank kneeeled beside him "Petrini, get the med-pak over here, he is still alive!"
Carneal tried to spaek but all that came up was a mouthful of blood and his bloody body twitched. "Carneal! what is it!" Carneal raised a bloody stumped arm, indicating over towards a thick forest. its dark branches hiding the light, like a black hole. drawing everything towards it. Burbank glanced over and noticed a trail of blood leading into the forest. the blood looked thick and was deep purple. "We shall head in htere as soon as the convoy arrives, bless your weapons and prepare to sell your lives dearly to the Emporer"
"But what about our mission?" asked Marcello
"We must find our brethrens Gene-Seed! it must not fall to the hands of the enemy! our mission will be a success. our lives our unimportent"
the scouts bowed in a circle and began their prayers. The forest looked over them. A hundred red eyes gleamed out of the dark.........

(ic) ++++++ Imperial News Bulletin ++++++
The reporter readied himself for the broadcast, he brushed off dust and mud from his flak jacket. the cameraman indicated to the reporter and he began his live feed to the people of Cavelera. "Good Evening ladies and gentlemen and mutant hybrids. today we will witness the glorious might of the Imperial Guard crush one of the Emperors most hated foes. The Tyranids. the Imperial Guard will criush this vile force for the good of mankind. as you can see Imperial tanks are rolling up into their positions as i speak" the camera man scanned along the frontlines with his camera, Leman Russ tanks turned their turrets to the sky. waiting for the enemy. Troops disembarked fro m their transports and took place in the trenches as commisars barked their orders.
"yes, these creatures wont stand a chance against the armoured might of the Imperial Guard" he continued "the Imperia......" the reporter looked up, the camera followed. in the distance a bright dot was falling to the ground. Then another, and another. Soon the sky was filled with bright dots. then as they got bigger it was visible what they were Tyranid drop pods. Cocoons full of alien monsters desperate to spill blood. Human blood.
(ooc- getting tired of writing.....must play Day of Defeat......finish story tommorrow.......)
The planets two suns beamed down on the cramped troops, in the back of the old trucks. Bearly enough room to move, they had to remain seated for a few hours.
Ahead of the convey two jeeps of troops charge forward scouting out the area ahead. Dust screamed behind the wheels as the crinding acho of dirty consumed the countryside. One soldier, with a scanner in one hand and his rifle slung over his shoulder, stood towering over the others. His eyes switching from one side to another quickly, scanning the area. After a moment of quiet talking, the soldier raised his hand and slowly the to jeeps stopped. The sergent stood up to see what was happening.
"What have you got?" The sergent spoke.
"Energy sources sir, just up the road here, and a few in the tall grass."
"Any life signs?"
"None."
The sergent nodded and gave the signal to proceed to investigate.
After a short drive they finally reached the source of the energy. Keeping a safe distance they disembarked and approached what seemed to be limbs and bodies on the ground. One soldier tap the corpse slightly with his foot. The lifeless body remained still.
"What are these?" One soldier asked.
"Dont know, they look like sentery droids, but human like."
The sergent looked down with remorse.
"These ain't sentery droids. They are Space Marines."
"Space Marines?!?" The guardsmen shouted.
"take a good look boys, you will be lucky to see even one space marine in our lifetime. Even though it is dead."
"Dead? But that can't be, i mean these are marines. They are all powerful." A soldier spoke.
"Nothings industructable, as we see here. Pray for them guys, and pray that whatever killed them, isn't still around." The sergent slowly said. The guardsmen all raised their rifles, scanned the area and slowly backed towards the jeeps. The sergent went back to one of the jeeps and picked up a radio.
"Scouting party Beta here. We have found some dead Space Marines. Unknown killers, the path is not clear, i repeat the path is not clear."
A crackling noise came over the radio then a voice. "Roger that scouting party one, your orders are to investigate what killed them and report back. Convey will continue with caution."
"Understood convey." The sergent place the radio back and looked around. He saw serveral disturbences in the long grass, but a lot seem to be heading towards a forest.
"Ok, here is what going to happen, i am going to take squad one into the grass and search who or what ever done this, squad two guard the jeeps."
Squad one started to shake as they hoisted their supplies on their back and prepeared to enter the long grass. One soldier jump onto the jeep and shouted.
"Don't worry Squad one, i am sure theres nothing out there you can't handle, i mean they only killed space marines." He and the rest of squad two started to laugh. The sergent turned round and shouted
"Don't worry lads just make sure that nobody is watching you while you are joking about. I mean anything could be watching you in this long grass, and you wouldn't know."
The sergent disappeared in the long grass along with squad one and left squad two staring at each other shaking.
The twin suns were setting over the low canopy of the dark, twisted forest. the light struggled to pierce the gloom, leaving small beams of light to dance across the floor. a small reptile crept along the floor. Over and under undergrowth asd it scuttled along its journey. CRUNCH. the heavy boot snapped the reptiles backas its life blood seeped away.
Petrini lifted his foot "awwww what in Emperors name have i stepped in?" he moaned.
"Keep your wits about you brother, we know not what denizens lie in these forests." said Burbank as he hacked through the undergrowth with his mono-knife. the scouts continued along a narrow, winding pathuntil they came across a small pool of blood. Petrini knelt down, his gauntleted hand touched the blood. it rippled around his fingers and he quickly withdrew his hand. "Its still fresh sergeant!" he stated, shock appearing on his face. Burbank merely mumbled and petrini struggkled to understand what he said. those phrases he did catch were displeasing to hear. suddenly a spot of blood splashed across his face. "AAH!" he yelled. he span round, expecting a foe to be standing there. but there was nothing. another drop splashed on his shoulder, and he realised what was happening. slowly he looked up. bile rose to his mouth and he was unable to cobntain it. The rest of the squad followed his gaze and the sight chilled them too their very bones.
Above them. A skinned corpse hung from some kind of organic muscle. an adjouining hook hung the corpse like a piece of meat. the only way of reckognising that it was human was the Imperial 1st Company dog tag that hung from the neck. Burbank raised his Bolt pistol and with a well placed shot, blew the alien muscle that held up the corpse from the tree branch. the body fell to the floor with a sickening crunch. Burbank knelt beside the corpse, despite the stench of death that hung about it. he flipped over the dog tag. Carneal.
********************
The beast rose from its perch. the scream picked up from its senses. it rose to its full height and let out an ear peircing screech. as if mocking the marines. then it lept down from the tree. its camoskin activating as it lept to the floor. It began stalking its prey..............

The camera flickers on and we immedietly see a man running. the camera shakes and seems to be moving too. thge man in front turns round and is actually the news reporter. he ducks to the floor and the camera follows. around the reporter, carnage is visible. on the left a dozen troops run up an embankment only to be mown down in a hail of fire. on the right more troops and a tank rumble past debris and bodies. then a spore mine drifts in front and the troops dive for cover. some are unlucky and as the spore detonates they are caught in the explosion. their bodies flung highy in the air. the tank swivels its turret and its Battlecannon blows apart a brood og Hormagaunts. Then, from behind a Carnifex charges at the tank. The turret turns painfully slow as the monster crashes into the side of the tank. its claws tear through the armour and the screams of the crew being disemboweled ring out, although they are drowned by the din of battle. Explosions tear apart broods of Termagaunts and light arms fire patters harmlessely off Tyranid warriors. Guardsmen are mercillesly butchered and heavy tanks crush Hormagaunts in their path. "the Battle looks grim, with heavy losses on each side. Lthough the aliens seem to have no regard for their comrades death, insted they fight on with some kind of animal instinct." the reporter stammers on "I had seen three guardsmen pump a dozen shots into a Hormagaunt and it still managed to slaughter two of the men!" the camera spins round as a swarm of gargoyles blacken the sky. "Emperors mercy! more of them. i feel that the Imperial might has met its match! all around me troops are running!" then a gunshot is heard and the camera falls to the floor. blood flowing across the lens. the reporter moves off screen and a lrge shadow falls across the ground in front. the shadow taking the form of a tall man in a long trench coat and a peaked cap resting on his head. a smoking bolt pistol in one hand and a large powersword in the other. the reporter can be heard whimpering and the shadow raises its bolt pistol and in an instant mor blood is sprayed across the camera. the last thing heard is a mans voice bellowing orders until a heavy boot crushes the camera.

(ooc- heres a summing up of the story so far: The Tyranids have begun a full scale invasion and the Imperials are struggling to keep them at bay. The Astropath is being escorted away to somewhere safe because she is needed to send a psychic signal to any nearby Space Marine fleets (no one knows about the scouts yet) I will be controlling the Tyranids and i have a surprise in store for later on! 8)
